Entertaining and Haunting

Johnny Depp's is hilarious as the scared hero and the story is dark enough to pass as somewhat horror. Christina Ricci was excellent too, who happens to be way more brave the Depp's character. Very entertaining movie, dark humor worked really well

superb

I'm a 47 year old music buff and I've never paid much attention to Roy. I saw this video on Public TV and sent in a pledge for $50.00 to get it. This guy could hit at least 3 octaves and had perfect pitch. I believe he was the most under-rated artist of the century. The backup singers are all stars in their own right but were all mentored by Roy. Springstein is good in his "clean cut" mode. Every music fan from country to classical should love this - Put it out in DVD.

The 3 Journeys of the Followship into a Darker World

It's an amazing movie and the extra 43 minutes makes everything flow much more smoothly even for the novel readers. The thing I would suggest is to watch the bonus material first. It makes you appreciate everything more and look at details that you may have overlooked before. It's amazing that Peter Jackson and everyone involved could do such a wonderful job given their time and budget. Watching the extras makes you wish you could have been a part of the production...this is a must own DVD.

Field of Dreams (Widescreen Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Hey! I get it!

I'm always amazed when I hear baseball fans complain about this movie, and believe me it happens every spring. Good sports movies are few and far between, and I'd stick Field Of Dreams out at the front of the pack along with Bull Durham and Hoosiers, (with the slight overall edge to Hoosiers.) The Field Of Dreams story has been rehashed often enough in these reviews, so I'll spare you my take on it, but I have to say that the cast is what takes a pretty good story and makes it into a great movie. Only Costner's Dances With Wolves performance tops this one. James Earl Jones is likewise incredible as the sixties burn-out, as is Amy Madigan as the hippy burn-out. Honestly there isn't a weak performance in the movie, and if the Fenway Park scenes don't make you book a trip to Boston, you shouldn't call yourself a baseball fan.

"I rubbed its tummy and it went to sleep"

I work at a movie store, and on the offchance that I might be pleasantly surprised, I rented Haiku Tunnel. Best described as the Art House version of Office Space, Haiku Tunnel is hilarious, sad, and thought provoking all at the same time. If you really enjoy slightly strange, low-budget movies that aren't your run-of-the-mill, predictable hollywood blockbusters, then you should buy this movie. If you like movies that are stupidly funny (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), then buy Office Space (which is also a really good movie). You might be as pleasantly surprised as I was :)

Classic Television...Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

It's simply astounding to see this footage...to think that what we are seeing is what 1963 America was seeing...being substantially unfamiliar with this new girl, Barbra, with her unconventional looks, yet stunning voice and delivery. When you watch this now...it's hard to place her in the context where she was then...young, virtually unknown to much of the television audience...and very much the smaller of the two stars. Seeing Streisand now...a living legend...arguably the most successful female soloist of all time...it's even somewhat difficult to realize that she was just a baby at that taping.

Also, it's worth saying that Judy, though on her way out...very much out-did Streisand, vocally. During the duets, Streisand was arguably the more subtle and smooth...but in pure belt-factor...Judy always blew Streisand off the stage. I still prefer the more polished sound of Streisands performances, however, over Judy's more powerful, yet punchy, sticcato-like vibrato.

It was interesting to see Streisand, Judy, and Ethel Merman do the "There's No Business Like Show Business" duet...and if you notice, Streisand doesn't know all the words and sort of fakes her way through it, even putting a hand up to her forehead at one point as if to say, "How did I get up here with these two!?"

For the "Down With Love" Streisan number...I believe they must have put non-skid strips on her heels...here she was stepping up onto this shiny platform with her 2 inch heels...it seemed one wrong step and she'd slip down. Not to mention she had to take tiny little sideways steps to get down after the number.

Garland must have lived a really rough life and career...because she looks far older than her mid-to-younger forties actual age. In contrast, Streisand at that age was very much in her prime...youthhful, vibrant, and had much, much greater things to come. It was sad to see Garland looking much older. Also, notice that stars in that day didn't do much to cosmetically fix their teeth. Judy's teeth look worse than many not-so-wealthy people I've known. Yet, it's also an appeal...because what you see is what you get. She was the real deal.

Also, of interest...Jerry Van Dyke, her co-host of sorts for those few shows...is the older gentleman on Coach (Nick-at-Nite). He looks so tall on the Judy show...and so short on Coach. Perhaps it was because Judy was such a tiny lady.

At any rate...this is classic television...and a treasure for any Judy or Barbra fan. And since it's on DVD...it will last as long as I can keep from losing it.

Awesome!!!

I've seen this movie 2 times in theater already and may go again, when I can!!! At first, I thought it was going to be a boring, dumb movie but boy was I wrong!!!! Its funny and entertaining! Usually I dont watch Pirate movies, but this one def. blew me away!! The actors such as Orlando Bloom (VERY talented), Johnny Depp (impressive as well, been awhile since Ive seen him in a movie), Kiera Knightley (another great actress and whom I'll keep watching her in other movies!) and the rest of the cast. I liked how the special effects are used. The moonlight scene - flesh to skeleton. All in all, I really enjoyed this movie and definitely going to watch many more times!!

The Funniest Movie Ever Made (Unintentionally)

Not much else to add about this classic except for the utterly hilarious dialogue, mostly provided by Tony Manero (Travolta). Here are my top five funniest lines(there are hundreds of others) from the film:
1) "My Hair! You know I work on my hair for a really long time and then he goes and smacks it...he hits my hair" - Tony
2) "Stephanie, what were you doing with that guy, he's the biggest (expletive) hound in Bay Ridge, he's a..." - Tony
3) "Go ahead,... I knew you would. A raise means like your good." Tony
4) "I mean what are you anyway Annette? Are you a nice girl or a (expletive)?" Tony
5) Tony's boss: well, if you take the afternoon then your fired! Tony: Fired...
If you don't own this on DVD you must buy it now, it's an absolute classic. Highest Recommendation.
