Escaflowne - The Movie (Ultimate Edition 3-Disc Set) - movie DVD cover picture

Well, many ppl i know thinks it's an OK movie, coz 96 mins included all the episodes of escaflowne..but the whole movie is just....enchanted, the story lines, the songs, when i was watching it, it felt like i was in a different world. lol The ending isn't like a whole happy ending, which is the thing about the movie, it left a mysterious feeling to let you think. It's really sad though, I don't really wanna spoil anything =P Anyway...the movie is not merely a fantasy anime, it gave me feelings that are really different than the episodes. If you like anime, it's definitely worth a buy.

It Ain't A Classic for Nothing

If anyone's seen a musical, chances are it's Sound of Music. I read a book by some musical theatre expert, claiming that the score showed the decline of Rodgers and Hammerstein, but the score contains classics (Edelweiss, the title song, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, My Favorite Things, Climb Every Mountain, to name a few). Julie Andrews plays the role Mary Martin portrayed on Broadway in the story of the Von Trapp family and their fight with the Nazis. This may make the musical sound dark, but it's far from it. It's truly a classic that everyone should see. (The tv version is shortened. There's a little more most people never got to see.)

Great Action and Adventure

This movie is based on actually events that occured in Morocco just before the advent of the First Wolrd War. While the historical content is subordinated somewhat for the cinema, this film nonetheless conveys the political confusion that existed in Morocco at that time. An accurate portrayal is made of the corrupt Moroccan leaders who cared little for their own people. The Euroepan powers are also accurately shown in their greedy desires to carve up yet another incompetent Middle Eastern Kingdom. The United States gets pulled into the affair as well, and the movie does a fine job showing how Teddy Rosevelt advocated his walk-tall-and-carry-a-big-stick philosophy. The movie conveys well what was involved with old world power politics.
Sean Connery does his usual best portraying a likeable Beduoin leader. I must say in lieu of 9/11 its a little hard to find much sympathy for him and his followers. The movie shows him and and his Berbers riding across the desert much as the early warriors of Islam did in the 7th Century. Its compelling stuff, but again, in light of recent events its a little less romantic than it use to be.
The kiddnapping of the American woman and her family provides a convenient vehicle for Sean Connery and Candice Bergan to engage in their verbal dual as aging Islam encounters modern Western Womanhood! Its all quite innocent fun, and good adventure.
The movie becomes a bit contrived by demonizing the Germans in the end, and the whole scene to rescue Sean Connery seems a bit over done. The best scene is probably the US Marines storming the Bashaw's Palace. If only it could be that easy today! Teddy Rosevelt gets positive imagery in his homey presidential style. It's interesting to note that he would be less gung-ho when his son was killed some years later in the First Wolrd War.
Overall a fine period film, with good acting, sets, and high adventure. The image of Islam seems a lot less romantic now than it did 30 years ago, but the movie still works on many levels.

That the way it was

Having watched the premiere of the New special addition of TTWIT in London last weekend I can tell you we are in for a real treat. All of the terrible interview scenes have been replaced with extra rehersals and what seems like a full concert. It is arranged in chronological order, and re-cut in a much more modern way to appeal to a new audience, this provides is a fantastic build up to the actual concert. Footage which would never have been considered 30 years ago has now been inserted, and gratful we should be. If you liked the original you are going to love this version.

In the words of the dying Wilton Knight: "One Man Can Make A Difference"

And that man is Michael Knight... played by David Hasselhoff, this is the show that kicked off his career... Lets not forget about the talking Trans Am, K.I.T.T., voiced by William Daniels..

Get this dvd set if u are fan of this classic series from the 80s.. I for one, is a satisfied fan.. I will be more satisfied if Universal release the rest of the Knight Rider seasons on DVD as well.. For now, bring on season 2!!!!

Shaun of the dead

Its impossible not to love this movie. It has Zombies, romance, scares and even a tear or two. Its without a doubt the best movie to come out of the UK in the last five years.

Simon Pegg is wonderful as Shaun, the ultimate everyman with his sidekick Nick Frost as Ed. The rest of the cast are wonderful and a veritable whos who of British comedy, with Lucy Davis from the smash hit "The Office" and utterly fabulous Dylan Moran who is perhaps one of the greatest Irish standup comics ever.

The film was not what I was expecting at all. I was expecting a kind of typical spoof on all levels, with lots of "in jokes" for people who love Zombie movies. But that isnt what I got at all. It actually had a plot. A good one at that. You feel for these characters, especially Shaun who has to see more than a few of his loved ones fall prey to the flesh eating followers. I was choked up at the scenes with his mother and the goodbye to Ed in the cellar. There is genuine tension created with the character David, proving Dylan Morans wonderful range as a dramatic actor. As a result this film has just as much credibilty, if not more, than the recent remake of Dawn of the Dead.

On the extras front, this is a perfect example of how to produce a real dvd. The wealth of commentaries (on the uk release) is wonderful. I love commentaries and loved the group one with all the principle characters together clearly enjoying each other company and, it would seem, getting a little drunk (at least on Dylans part)

I love this movie, mainly for the fact that it suprised me. It was wonderfully funny but also tugged at the heartstrings and had the odd scare here and there. A perfect movie.

Wrestlemania Brings down the house! again!

Well, Wrestlemania has lost it's luster in recent years. This is one of the better ones in a while. The opening match was great. My only complaint was that it could have gone longer. Rey and Hardy tore it up. Limp Bizkit performed a theme that hasn't been used for a long while, and Undertaker didn't take Fred down, so I hated the next match already. Undertaker wins, surprise surprise. The next match was a really surprisingly good one. Trish has gotten some skills lately and Jazz and Victoria are both two of the best women wrestlers i've seen. Triple threat tag match, nothing special ok i guess. HBK Vs. Jericho was next, my personal faveorite match along with Angle vs. Lesner. One of my all time faves vs. one of the current best. Great match, nice change of pace from the brawls of earlier matches. The catfight, terriable can't even watch. Limp Bizkit provides another fast foreward moment. Booker T vs HHH, not bad, not great HHH wins again. Hogan vs. McMahon, good stuff thought it'd be boring but the street fight stipulation adds some excitement. Lesner Vs. Angle, wow i could say so much about this. Great stuff from these two, but what else would you expect from Kurt. Lesner impresses me. The shooting Star press was truly sick. I can't watch it without cringing. Great show of respecet at the end. Overall I'd rate this a 7/10-1 point off for A train and Big show, one for the catfight and one off for Limp Bizkit.

Beautiful romance, high packed action, GREAT movie!

From heart-touching romance scenes to great action, this movie has to be one of the most unique fighting-style movies I have ever seen. It's one of those movies where you either love it or totally despise it. People have to give it a chance. Sure, it's not like Jet-Li's movies, but that's because it is different. Unique is the word to describe it. I'm a die-hard fan of fighting-action movies, I watch all types, and this movie is AWESOME! If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
