EXCELLENT cultural history

Aside from the fabulous cast, strong script, and flawless direction, I love this film for its willingness to portray such a controversial subject/industry so vividly, yet refrain from putting its own moral spin on it.
Anderson's film shows porn, the people who make it and the people who consume it, with disarming equanimity. We see that they are silly, horrifically superficial, not terribly bright (except for the director and producers), completely amoral, shameless, sentimental, having INCREDIBLY bad taste in just about EVEYRTHING, greedy, corrupt, kind of dead inside. Yet we can't help liking all of his characters, no matter what we see them do---because Thomas makes them HUMAN. Just like us, whether we want to admit it or not.
One scene that especially resonates: when they randomly pick up the suburban frat boy for a spontaneous videotaped sex scene, who immediately and madly wants to screw the porn actress yet feels himself to be morally superior to her at the same time.
THAT, alas, is America and its relationship to pornography, flawlessly distilled.

Escape to Tuscany

I saw this film last night, and I must say, it is one of my favourite films of 2004 already! It's a REAL girlie film (I am NOT a girl), but I still adored it.Diane Lanes character is going through a divorce, and is given a trip to Tuscany by her good friends, to help her get over the split. When she gets to Tuscany, she is immediately taken by the beauty of Italy. She reads the 'signs' early on, and on an impulse buys a Tuscan villa, which is in dire need of renovation. The rest of the story concentrates on her rebuilding her life, the people she meets, and the difficulties that that presents especially in a foreign country. This is a real feel-good film, and I loved the strength the character displayed. The film offered no surprises, you know exactly what will happen throughout, but sometimes, that's exactly the kind of film you need!A wonderful, heart warming, inspirational, touching and genuinely lovely film.(And it was a real reminder to go back to Italy soon - the filming of the scenery was stunning)
The DVD extras? Adequate; 3 deleted scenes which are always nice, and a nice documentary. HOWEVER - I found a hidden extra - and a REALLY good one it is too! Clue - its hidden on the special features page, and its a very interesting film on the making of 'Zeus' underpants (he was originally naked and they had to add pants to lower the rating - interesting!)

This movie is awsome, and a must have for a otaku's collection. It brings up some very interesting questions, and had some good action. A few warnings; there is agood deal of violence, two senes of nudity, one a very slightly explicit sex scene. The kind of open-ending could put some people of, but it didn't realy bother me. My sugestion, if you hate open-endings, rent it first, but if that type of thing doesn't bother you too much, go out and give yourself a nice treat. Buy it.

Some of the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen...

This movie is one of the most beautiful films that I have ever seen. Both the cinematography and the story line leave nothing to be desired. There are so many levels. It's about longing for connection...with a parent, with a spouse, with an animal..It's a love story without succumbing, like so many other movies, to the temptation to be gratuitous. There is just a balance of elements in this movie that few films ever achieve. The score is also extremely well done, and enhances all the good things about the movie. While it is fairly lengthy, it is well worth the investment of time, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

One of the best MST3Ks ever!

This is one of the best MST3Ks ever!
We begin with a short on farming. As a bulldozer plows through the woods, Servo comments, "The sad thing is this guy doesn't even work for anyone. He's just doing this for kicks."
`I Accuse My Parents' isn't really that bad. It's about a 25 year old high school student Jimmy, who blames his association with gangsters nicer than Mr. Rogers on his parents lack of love. OK it's black and white in the 50s but it's not nearly as bad as some of the movies we've seen on MST3K.
The classic humor here comes from the way Joel, Servo, and Crow don't let anything go. In the beginning Jimmy wins an essay contest. An hour ? later when Jimmy is on the street Servo says, "Now he's forced to sell his essays on the street."
You really have to see this one. Trust me MST3K fans, this is one of the best!
Why haven't they released the rest on DVD or VHS? Because these bombed big time and there was no profit. That's why.

AC/DC in there prime...................

I love this DVD, the Bon Scott material is the best I have ever seen. Brian Johnson is a great singer but he cant hold a candle to Bon Scott. I wasnt a fan of these guys till I heard "Highway To Hell" LP, I was hooked after that....too bad I never got to see Bon is his heyday. I love the song "Rock and Roll Damnation", a real powerhouse rocker, real head banging stuff. Im not going to go through every song on this DVD becuase that would take forever, but in my opinion the Bon Scott material blows the Brian Johson stuff away. Disc 2 is ok but I got bored watching it, There older stuff was way better than the 80s and 90s...... buy this DVD if its just for the 1st disc, you`ll see just how good these guys were. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Good story

My son and I have enjoyed watching Power Rangers Ninja Storm, and this is our favorite story. Of course it's fun for kids, but adults might enjoy the action, along with the time travel aspects of the story. Very enjoyable.

Uncut version: powerful, disturbing, a great film

I was slow to warm up to Batman Beyond, but Dini and company do deliver solid, enjoyable, well written and stylish animated programs so it was only a matter of time before I relaxed and enjoyed it.
I saw the edited version of this movie and enjoyed it-- but it did lack a certain impact; to my eye at least, it was obvious drastic revisions had been made to the film in progress, and the story suffered.
Then I got a copy of the uncut version. Wow. I was blown away. I mean, this has some very intense, very disturbing elements. I understand they needed to revise the film-- this is not Saturday AM fare. But it is awesome. What could drive Batman to kill the Joker (not that I'm saying he did...)? If you like Batman, you will love this film. But it is not for young children.

Perhaps the best unrequited love story of all time

What a wonderful mix of surreal characters and settings with a tender tale of unrequited love. The juxtaposition sounds odd buts works remarkably well.
