Duvall Shined!

The book is better than the film but the film itself is far more satisfying. This is probably the only film in the world that really gave me nightmares with its creepy shots of the hotel and the two girls. The scariest scenes for me where the old woman in the bathtub and the last shots of the girls. I think that certain aspects of the script are so well written and Jack Nicholsons performance is A1. You really have to sympathise with poor Jack for the monster he is turned into. Now my rants.
1. The film was shot in 4'3 so you are getting the full picture aspect and you see even more than the cinema version which was cropped at the top and bottom. Any wide screen version that may come out in the future will be cropped just the same. It is an impossibility to get an anamorphic or letterbox edition of this film so you people should really learn a few things. JFK was transferred to widescreen like this and blatently had black lines stuck over at the top and bottom. 2. It was originally recorded in mono sound being 1979-80 and was played theatrically like this. This edition was overseen by Kubrick himself and the point of it is to restore it to how it originally was not to make any modifications. Splitting up mono tracks always takes the depth away from the sound. 3. The picture has been restored suitably enough and shows a gritty image the same as Aliens did. The picture is fine and I cant imagine it ever looked this good before. There. No more waiting for a true version which you make believe will come out some day because I dont ever think there will ever be another. GREAT FILM BY THE WAY.

Just See This Movie

This is one that is well worth your time even if the genre might be somewhat off-putting. The movie is astounding. If you want to find out what it is really like to be scared give this one a shot. It reaches from beyond the screen within the first ten minutes and does not let go until you have left the theater. The plot is carefully outlined by several reviews below, but this is a mere reccomendation for anyone even remotely interested in this. If you like a wild ride that shakes your brain and pushes your nerves to their limits, I cannot imagine a rival to the ring.
Go, get up from your computer, get in your car, drive to the theater and buy a ticket. You will never hear static the same way again, and when the phone rings you will jump.

God, the Devil and Bob - The Complete Series - movie DVD cover picture
Take a closer look

I truly enjoyed this series. I liked it because they
took the very important subject of God and his presence in our lives. It also
presented Biblical principals in a clear and funny way.
For example, it is a sin to pity oneself.
The devil
in this series has one pity party after another.
God asks us to just trust him, not be whining and
complaining, he wants us to enjoy life. So you get a few
bumps, get over it and get on with working for the Lord,
loving his people. The character Bob is a self serving
man who wants to change, but is hung up on his earthly
tendencies - swearing, drinking, being angry - we all can relate to that. Throughout the series, God gently leads
him away from that - like going to bars when he
should be spending time with his family, God shows
him how much better his life is when treasuring the gift
of a wife and children.
On and on I could go with this, but
what I'd really like to say is, give it a try.
I think you'll like it and perhaps if you aren't
reading the Bible right now and enjoying God's presence
in your life, you may just invite him in. Life
is awesome when you recognize God's presence and
his love for you.

Anime at its finest!

Trigun centers around one Vash the Stampede, a hapless hero who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is being pursued by two young insurance agents who need to capture him so that he can pay for all of the damage he "causes". Between his daring acrobatics, pristine shooting skills, dashing good looks, and slapstick humor, Vash puts on a show that is enjoyed by all. If you're a die-hard anime fan or just a person looking for a good action flick, look no further. Trigun will fill every person's entertainment needs.

Sarah Simply Sexy

This is the best Sarah video released to date. The song selection is perfect [pleasantly surprised to see the inclusion of Vox]. A year ago, my sister DRAGGED me to the Lilith Fair concert. I walked away a true believer. Now I have all of Sarah's CD's. I even made a "best of" Mini-Disc. People who complain about the audio don't know how to set up their audio/video options on their receiver. If you like Sarah, buy this DVD/VHS/CD.

Outstanding and Surreal

if anyone could pull this kind of film off it is Harmony Korine. he took you into the life of a schizophrenic named Julien and made you feel you were walking right next to him. although the film is quite disturbing, it is also incredibly beautiful and is meant for the cinamaticly adventurous only. this film is misunderstood by critics ( like Gummo ) and needs a great deal more of recognition. this is one of my all time favorite films. enjoy and buy it!

Going Out On Top

The last two or three seasons of BtVS came in for more than a bit of fan criticism, primarily because some fans refused to grow with the characters and the series. It's not that the show *always* made the best decisions, but for television, they did extraordinarily well and they generally stuck to the primary themes which made the show great. The show continued to create new characters and plot lines that expanded and enhanced the original vision. This season and the 6th were an overt challenge to viewers and in the 7th, the producers had to decide to wrap things up. As the show developed over the years, boogey-man physical villians became the villiany of power, the challenge of simply living, and the existence of evil itself. On each occasion, the writers were true to the show's roots and in this final season, it leads to a finale which left me crying and cheering, and asking one of the questions the show has always been asking in different ways: "Are you ready to be strong?"

Great Expectations - movie DVD cover picture
The Best version I've ever seen.

I am now reading Charles Dicken's Great Expectations for school, and watched this video as supplementary information. The video is very true to the book, for instance, lines directly from Dicken's text are used throughout the movie, and it's all very well put together. Overall it's a great movie too...
