Don't Touch The Eggs They Are Mine!

I bought this anime on a whim. It was cheap and I had just finished watching the first season of "The Slayers". To my surprise, this anime quickly lept into my "Top 10" list. Dragon Half really packs a mean punch when it comes to comedy, chibi animation, crazy bad guys, and did I mention comedy?
Plot? Mink, a half-human and half-dragon teenage girl just wants to be normal, eat lots of food, and swoon over her eye candy pop-star singing dragon-slaying idol Dick Saucer. But Mink just can't seem to get a break between her dad always picking on her over her infatuation with the dragon slaying singer and the handful of bad guys out to spoil her good time.
Join Mink on her quest to see Dick Saucer in concert and her vicious battle in a world martial arts tournament. This anime will have you laughing for hours and has a great replay value. Both the English and Japanese tracks are awesome. Even the ending theme itself is worth buying the DVD.
Recommended for ages 14+ for brief nudity, minor sexual themes, some blood, and a roasting pet eagle.

"Better than the first!"

[...]As mentioned before, the second movie is more for the thinker and is very likely a better prequel than sequel.
What I am basically asking for, is that those who are intellectually challenged rather give this movie a miss.Listening to your grade school banter in between action scenes ruins the movie for most and makes any dialogue all but audible.
Thanks to Warner for another great movie!!!

good biblical film

I thought the acting, directing, script and sets were all very well done. Richard Burton,Jean Simmons and Victor Mature were very good in their roles.Movie moved well and did not stray from the basic story and there was not so much going on as to confuse an audiance. The title concerns the robe Christ wore when he was crucified and the story is centered around this robe and what all happens to it. Mature is a slave,Burton is a Roman that turns christian and Simmons is Burtons love interest.

Gummo - movie DVD cover picture

I've determined that movie critics are just bitter and jaded. I thought that Gummo was one of the most original and compelling films I've seen in a long time. I suppose in a way I thought it encapsulated the life that I have observed for myself, having grown up in a small town. I thought that it created a viceral and authentic portrait of humanity especially its cruelness which is rarely accurately portrayed in the insincere sugar coated crap that Hollywood feeds us.

Ninth Street - movie DVD cover picture
Ninth Street is a gem

"Ninth Street" is a real gem. Martin Sheen and Isaac Hayes are featured in Director Kevin Willmott's first feature-length film. The film deals poignantly and humorously with a whole litany of issues----race issues, the Vietnam War, the military/ industrial complex, Christianity, and other hot-button issues. Kevin Willmott brilliantly recreates life in his hometown of Junction City, Kansas in the late 1960's. In particular, the movie chronicles life on "Ninth Street," a notorious street known as "the Harlem of Kansas." This strip of black-owned taverns, pool halls and other businesses was wildly popular with G.I.'s at local Fort Riley. Soldiers around the world knew about life on Ninth Street. The plot revolves around on ongoing dialogue of two old-timers----Bebo and Hudie---who lament the fact that Ninth Street has declined from it's glory days when they were young G.I.'s. This movie will make you laugh and make you cry. It has layer after layer of symbolism and meaning. In the spirit of pioneer black filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, Kevin Willmott portrays the lives of African-Americans with honesty and passion. Although the buildings on Ninth Street have been razed and are now only a memory, Willmott has preserved this unique time and place in a funny yet deeply serious film.

Great Special Effects

This movie is what I call "Pure" Sci-Fi... one that takes our reality, then adds a Science-Fiction element to it. Contact will not bore you if you get into the movie. Ellie Arroway, portrayed beautifully by Jodie Foster, shows you just what a scientist's life is like, slightly Hollywoodized, on the silver screen. Her spiritual, emotional, and scientific journey is one I don't think you'll want to miss.
Are there aliens out there? Is the main question and plot of this movie. "It would be an awful waste of space."
It also delves a bit into the politics of the science world, which is refreshing and different for a Sci-Fi film. The plot is also quite similar to the book, which I also recommend reading.
The DVD, while preserving the sound and video to almost perfection, has included some worthwhile features. The "making of" sequences tell quite a bit how a movie comes to light.
Last but not least, if you're still not convinced, then you should get the movie just for the beginning and climax. Keeping an open mind will help you understand just how those parts of the film are interesting, theoretical, and contraversial.

Groundhog Day - movie DVD cover picture

Have you ever had one of the days that you wished break the pattern? What if you had to relive it over and over without worrying about tomorrow. This film, GROUNDHOG DAY stepped out as an original masterpiece. Every now and again, I see some tv series (Xena's episode was great) immitating this film's genre. Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, an annoying arrogant reporter who doesn't want to be the WeatherMan onsite at a Groundhog Day Festival. Andie MacDowell (Rita) and Chris Elliott ( Larry the cameraman) do the shoot and look to leave. Only Murray never leaves. He awakes the next day in the same day, being the only one who knows that time is repeating and repeating. Wonderful film!

Excellent American Comedy!

One of my all time favourites, Chevy Chase was born for this role! It's not your typical "in your face" American comedy, it takes a different, darker slant to humour. The DVD is fine, the audio is Dolby 1.0 but here in Australia we've been graced with an anamorphic widescreen version. I wonder why Region 1 copped a full screen version?
