Do The Right Thing

I still remember coming out of the movie theatre crying after seeing this film. Spike Lee is one of the most thought provoking writer/directors of his time and this film proves it.Using the hottest day in Bed-Sty as the backdrop for escalating racial tensions was genius. Watching the film, one never knows why on this particular day Buggin Out became enraged about the fact that there were no pictures of African Americans on the pizzaria's wall of fame but then, one doesn't have to. The message in the film was & is to this day that racial unrest/tensions simmer just below the surface in situations, neighborhoods, and work and ANYTHING at any time came cause those passions to escalate into an out of control situation.
The title Do The Right Thing encourages each viewer to ask him/herself exactly what the right thing is. The character of Mookie was not there to show that his actions were the "right thing" only how one young man reacted in a given situation.
I still remember reviewers advising strong police turnouts at theatres showing this film stating that "the natives" might riot due to the nature of the film - patented to keep the white people scared and away from the film. Thankfully it didn't work and hopefully people who view this movie do so with open minds - it's a great commentary on race relations because quite frankly, a lot of us live in neighborhoods just like this one.

Ernest Goes to Camp - movie DVD cover picture
Humorous and Touching

Jim Varney does an excellent job with his humorous, yet touching role as Ernest: Camp Counselor. The introduction to this movie is really funny. If you haven't done so already, pay attention to the golf cart! That isn't the last time you'll see it. Ernest's tolerance of the Second Chance boys is touching. I listen to "I'm Glad It's Raining" every now and then to remember this movie. It's really nice to see a movie where everything comes out ok in the end. The war at the mining camp is a riot! Simple little things such as the turtle saying "I'm scared, sarge" adds to the humor. This movie would not be as good if you tried to apply logic to some of the actions or if you dissected the plot. Just enjoy it for the humor & caring!

Every AB FAB Fan's Dream Come True.

Absolutely Fabulous has had Many Imitators, ("Cybil" being the Worst, "Sex in the City" being the Best) but it will Never be Beaten, and Neither will this DVD, which features EVERY Episode... Count em, 18... Every Single Episode. Overload, Pleasure Overload.
I have seen All of these episode Countless times, and yet they Still manage to Amuse me in Different ways every time, it is So cleverly written that it Requires multiple viewing just to get every joke, I am still just getting some of them.
My 3 Absolute Favourites would have to be "Poor", (Eddie's Ex Husband has cut her off and she has to learn to Cut Down on Expenditures) "Sex" (Eddie and Patsy organise an Orgy) and "Death" (Eddie's Father dies and she is having a Hard time Caring). They are so Perfectly performed and Wonderfully written, they really show you why the show has such a Following.

second set of '66 series

Seconds series 1966, still B & W has some really great episodes with Steed and Mrs. Peel. The gelling of Rigg's and Macnee's characters were well onto making
screen history, and with cause. Both of these fine actors brought these characters alive. Seven episodes this time.

1) "The Danger Makers" sees a high-ranking ex-serviceman seeking to feed their high threshold for adventure. The banter between Steel and Mrs. Peel sharpens to double entendres that trademarks their pairing.
2) "A Touch of Brimstone" lets Mrs. Peel take down her hair, or rather put it up, as Emma and John investigate a group resurrecting the infamous Hellfire Club. Mrs. Peel shows she looks just as stunning in corset, high-lace boots and spiked dog-collar, which she wears as the "Queen of Sin". The look was designed by Rigg, and ridiculously, because of her costume, the episode was banned from airing in the US!
3) "What the Butler Saw" has our pair of Britain's best out in search for missing defense plans.
4) "The House that Jack Built" has Emma receiving news her uncle has died and left her his country estate. When she gets to the manor, she soon finds herself drugged and trapped inside a house that is far from your normal house, as designed to end Emma's life.
5) "A Sense of History" Have Emma donning a merry man's costume in this Robin Hood adventure. A modern day Robin is found with an arrow in the back, pushing Steed and Emma to stop the neo-fascist Merry Men from achieving their devilish plans.
6) "How to Succeed at Murder" puts Emma and John on the trail of executives being executed, in a posh perfumerie where a woman "nose" best.
7) "Honey for the Prince" when a resort where you live out your fantasies turns deadly, our pair are sent to stop the evil doings. Emma goes harem girl! to save the day and up the ratings!

Many were written by Brian Clements with a variety of directors such as James Hill, Don Leaver, Peter Graham Scott and Charles Crichton.

Misguided Meg on Perilous Venture...

Moncrieff creates a very strong story as she directs Blue Car which touches the very essence of ourselves as it offers remarkable tragedy that can cause much reflection. Meg writes about her personal problems as she seeks a way to exorcise her deep pain within, and one day in school she reads out loud what she has written. When Meg's English literature teacher hears this piece he believes that she should compete for a poetic scholarship that is available. He also offers to help her during his lunch hour. In this process, she finds a strong foundation which she is lacking at home as her mother is constantly working or in school. Misguided, Meg is drawn into a downward spiraling journey toward more problems as everything around her seems to collapse. In the end, Blue Car provides an outstanding cinematic experience.

Why so harsh??

Wow. I guess I expected some negative feedback on this movie. I mean, it was a big one. And, you know what they say....you can't please all of the people all of the time.
So much complaining about the love story...why is that? How can you feel true apathy unless you are invited into a persons life. You have to know their story. Otherwise, you are just looking at them like, "What the hell is wrong with you? It is just a little smoke an fire." Now, I might agree that they whole love triangle might not have been necessary. However, things were different in the 40's. The men then were truly men of honor and courage. They saw their first priority was to defend their country. The angry people of the world probably don't care about this, but it is still true. I wouldn't have bet two cents on the honor and courage of many of the people in this country before Sept 11.
In any case, I can't believe that some of you can write a review so harsh that it loses its meaning. No one likes to listen to a bitcher. So, those of us who are sick of all the negativity just scroll right past. If you are going to argue, please do it a little more effectively. The movie was good. It wasn't great, but it was good. PH was worth going to see on the big screen and worth renting or owning. The personal stories only brought it a little closer to home and put it in perspective. I have much more respect now that I ever did from watching the scrathcy black and white footage from history class. I think the film makers did what they set out to do. They have honored the men and women who fought and died that fateful December day. 5 stars*****

Mommy! There's something under my bed!

This is the only Shyamalan movie that I found to be scary. It's a very good horror movie with a great plot and screenplay. The plot is about a young boy who sees dead people. But these dead people think that they are alive. A psychiatrist who had a tragedy occur tries to help this young boy throughout the movie. The ending is surprising and very unpredictable. It actually is quite scary and I remember looking under my bed the first time I saw it. (I was like 10 or 11) Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment give quite wonderful performances and this one will probably have you scared. I recommend it for anyone who wants to have some good scares.
