Yes - Symphonic Live - movie DVD cover picture
This DVD brings me chills!

First off, only 5 stars!?!?! Let me put down 100 out of 5 stars!
I have been elevated to a new level of musical appreciation and joy that I never thought possible before!
I have seen YES 11 times in the last four years, and their Symphonic Tour is no exception when I say there never has been such an amazing band! When I learned that YES was coming out with a DVD release of one of their symphonic performances, I was it absolute ecstasy knowing I would have the opportunity to watch over and over and over again a concert during a tour which brought me tears when I saw them perform live.
First off, major kudos to Tom Brislin. I have been one of the hugest fans of Wakeman since the 70's, but as much as I missed Rick on this (and other) tours, I thought that Brislin did a phenomenal job!
Jon, always the voice of an angel!
Steve, a master of guitar . . . although he does look a little bit stiff and too serious at times.
Chris, he is a monster on the bass! I'm sure that when he walks into music stores, the bass guitars quiver with fear. Rarely will you ever see someone rock a guitar like that Mr. Squire!
Alan, one of the most consistently perfect drummers ever! He's not the fanciest of drummers (e.g. like Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater), but he is consistently, consistently perfect in what he does! A buddy of mine is a professional drummer and he says the same thing!
I am reticent to mention a highlight about this dvd because *ALL* of it is beyond outstanding. I have chills every time I watch it, it's that moving. However, if I *had* to cite a highlight, I would have to say the drum section in "Ritual." One of my favorite all-time songs anyway, but they took this song to a whole new level!
If you're going to be stranded on a desert island and you have only one dvd, make it this one!
May YES continue to live healthily and happily and continue to bring pure joy to so many millions of fans!
Thank you, YES.

Fascinating and entertaining

My husband kept asking me to watch this, and I finally sat down with him and watched The chapter "Staying Alive". I was hooked. My husband is more scientific than I am, but this has the proper mix for both of us. Sam Neill is excellent in his job as narrator and host. Buy this and show it to your kids.

The Thing from Another World - movie DVD cover picture
The Original "THE THING" still rules!

I First remember hearing about this movie from my mother some years back. She was just a little girl when it first came out. What she did not realize is that when the movie was over she had to walk home by herself when it was over. By that time it was dark outside and she told me that she would never forget how scared she was. So I decided that I had to see this movie which is originally titiled "THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD". I tried to imagine living back when she did when most of the monsters on the big screen where usually pretty hoaky. WOW, what a suprise to find that this little gem was not only scary but the acting was pretty good. By the way , this was James Arness first big role (he plays the monster). I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is into sci-fi.

The Bedford Incident - movie DVD cover picture
"Bedford" has been used in military training.

I first heard of this movie from a guy I met who told me it had been used as an example of overzealousness in his military training. It was shown to caution the soldiers (he was Army) not to "push too hard" where mistakes could be costly. Who knew what incident might escalate into WW III. He said they were told that the Bedford Incident was based on a true incident that was very similar to but had a different outcome than the movie. He said they were told the real incident and it's outcome but sworn to secrecy about it. The movie and the training relating to it impressed him very much. I have not heard this from others. It may not have been used service wide, maybe just by a single group. The movie certainly could serve that purpose. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of the Bedford Incident being based on actual events.

I love this movie. It rocks! But I have to say the funniest line is Del saying:
"The shopkeeper and his son, now that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes."

Firefly - The Complete Series - movie DVD cover picture

QUICK, Everyone write to FOX! They brought Star Trek the original series back in the late 60's didn't they?! This show ROCKS! Far better than many of the other so-called "quality" sci-fi shows which have been on the air for several seasons. The images, lighting, sets, and special effects are some of the best I have seen (the DVD quality of this set is extremely high!!!), and overall the show was highly realistic compared to most other science fiction/outer space shows I have seen from ANY era. This was a quality program! The writing was top notch. Also, many scenes are truly humorous without obviously trying to be funny. If FOX won't listen, perhaps one of the other networks would... The person at FOX who axed this program should definitely lose his/her golden parachute and or stock options!

The future of Sailor Moon S

Come on, who's that girl who wrote the review that the DVD and VHS dubbed version of Sailor Moon S Movie? The series is always weird like this, but to make a comment of the voices and names. I think Pioneer may be on to something for the dubbed edition of the new episodes of Sailor Moon for summer vacation.
Let me start off on the good points that are the opposite of that one hateful writer's review. Uranus doesn't sound that feminine, Neptune doesn't sound that guyish, and Pluto is still decent as always. And the attacks are pretty much better than the fandubs, in my opinion, although they sound like the Japanese versions. And Sailor Mini Moon sounding like something from Austin Powers? Reality check, chibi is translated as small, mini, or little. And did that reviewer even get the DVD version as well? Read below for more info. I even like the name of Super Sailor Moon's attack: Rainbow Moon Heart Ache Reform. What's better is that Sailor Moon's third season first arc, "Moon Spiral Heart Attack" from Sailor Moon S is retained as normal.
All of that, and the Japanese original music. Unlike the video, the DVD comes with music from the original, despite the fact that the dubbed intro replaces the Japanese music. This is what Kids WB! did with Pokemon. They added some US tracks, but saved Japanese music in certain scenes. I hope Optimum's got plans for this as well.
Overall, Sailor Moon S' dialogue is superb. I don't know why that reviewer had to put it down. Order this DVD/VHS, because if you are a major Pokemon addict, like I was, get one of these SMS DVDs/VHS products.
