Dick Powell Is Great in this Movie

Dick Powell under Edward Dmytryk's direction makes movie history in this role. Nobody thought he could pull it off but Powell did. He gives a knew meaning to the term "hard boiled" in this great film. Everything comes together because it is just such an enjoyable movie to watch and one you can really get into. It's a claassic.

the full potential for dvd-audio fully realised

This one has it all. Dolby digital stereo, 5.1 and DTS with full motion music video on one side, 5.1 88khz/24 and stereo 176khz on the "audio" side. It even has interviews, outtakes and captioned lyrics! My cup runneth over, it is the all-in-one dvd I have been waiting for. The only dvd-a that comes even close is my Blue Man DVD. My congratulations to Jonatha Brooke, Bob Clearmountain and everyone else involved in this vision of an album. It's wonderfully mixed with pristine audio. Darn likeable music too. Anyone with a dvd-audio setup should have this gem in their collection. I can only hope that other artists follow this example, as I hope to see more albums with this quality and features!

Doris Day enchants the audience with her charm

Day gives a charming performance as the wacky Calamity Jane. As a "cowgirl" in the midwest, she makes the audience love her with her style. The catchy music keeps you singing. You'll fall in love with the characters as the plot so quickly goes by. You can never see this delightful musical too many times!

Burn Up Vol 1 - movie DVD cover picture
An old classic finally gets a long-overdue DVD release.

The origonal BURN-UP! video is finally on DVD! YES! O.K., for those of you who've never seen it before, it has NOTHING to do with the BURN-UP W, X-CESS, or recent SCRAMBLE series. the characters and story are all completly independant, although there are simular themes.

The scene is Tokyo, sometime in the not-too-distant-future. Women are being kidnapped off the streets and forced to become sex slaves for some rich, amoral men. (Despite such mature themes, this isn't an X-rated hentai title, though there are some definete adult-only moments, probably a title for 17 and older.) Three female traffic cops-impulsive, hot-tempered Maki, cool, level-headed Reimi, and ditzy Yuka-decide to do some under cover work, with the help of Maki's boyfriend/co-worker Kenji and his partner Banba, by going to a nightclub where many recent kidnappings have occured, and trying to lure the criminals out. But their plans backfire and Yuka ends up as the latest kidnap victim! The next day new evidence shows millionare Samuel McCoy as the mastermind behind the whole plot, but because he has powerful friends in high places, the police cheif says simply that there's nothing they can do. Maki and Reimi can't just leave it at that, so putting both their lives and their jobs at risk, they steal some body armor suits and heavy weapons and a police tank and set out to McCoy's to rescue Yuka and the rest of the kidnapped girls.

Lots of action, humor, and hot anime babes. (Though their breasts are nowhere near as exaggeratedly large as Rio's from the later BURN-UP series.) Also, the dub features long-time voice acting vets such as Tiffany Grant as Maki and Amanda Winn as Reimi. (Sadly, nether Amanda Winn nor the woman who does the voice of Yuka work for ADV anymore.)

A Magical Beginning-

As a Harry Potter fan I waited for months and months for this movie to come out. Having read and re-read the books at least twice... I had been following all the media buzz on what was to be a hit movie. I had hoped on the day it came out my mom would let me leave early from school to see the 3:30pm showing to my surprise my mom let me have the whole day off something the state of Texas wouldn't approve of! I like to think I was one of the first people to see it seeing the early 7:30am showing.

There is one word to describe this movie magical. Although, I have heard mulitple fans complain about the movie and how they don't live up to the book- I found that they have. The books can only take us so far with descriptions- we usually have to imagine the rest. But, with the movies we get the chance to see these magical worlds come before our eyes. O.K I'll admit as a fan I have been disappointed with some of the choices that have been made with the movies... with certain cast members. But, they do a good job living up to Rowling's epic books!

The actors that play Ron and Hermoine are perfectly cast. And although Radcliffe may seem the perfect choice as Harry since he has features and maturity I still believe Daniel Radcliffe is the weakest actor among them. Although he does a great job anyway. The sets, costumes, script, and acting make this first chapter in the Harry Potter saga a magical one!

All in all though this is a movie you should allow your children to see and please give them the right to imagine/dream their smart they know there's no such thing as witches and wizards they just need the chance to believe. Rent or buy this one and share bowl of popcorn and watch a magical beginning!

IDENTITY IS A KILLER

YES. HEH, HEH, HEH. EXQUISITE. THIS IS TRULY A MASTER MOVIE OF SUSPENSE, THRILLS AND TWISTS. NOT TO MENTION THE EXCEPTIONAL ACTING FROM THE ENTIRE CAST. ITS RARE THAT A MOVIE DOES WHAT IDENTITY DOES, COMPLETLEY ENWRAPS THE AUDIENCE AND DOESNT LET THEM GO UNTIL THE VERY FINAL FRAME OF FILM. USING VERY CLEVER TACTICS AND TRAPPINGS TO TRICK THE AUDIENCE IN TO THINKING ONE THING AND THEN COMPLETLEY DELIVERING ANOTHER. THE REAL TREAT FOR THE AUDIENCE IS THAT THE PLOT ISNT JUST SOME UNPREDICTABLE TWIST BUT RATHER A CLEVER AND DETAILED FORMULA THAT ON THE SECOND WATCH, MAKES MUCH MORE SENSE AND ANSWERES ANY QUESTIONS AND LINKS CERTAIN MINOR, YET IMPORTANT LINKS BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS. I FOUND THE DELICIOUS SETUP OF THE FILM TO TREAD VERY CAREFULLY BETWEEN A CLASSIC HORROR SETTING, A HOTELL IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE ON A STORMY NIGHT, AND THE UNEXPECTED DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL ROOTS THE CHARACTERS HAVE AND ARE DEFENSIVE AND PROTECTIVE OF. DESPITE THE DISSAPOINTING ALTERNATIVE ENDING ON THE DVD, ITS MERELY ADDED FLASH FRAMES TO THE ORIGINAL, THE DVD PICTURE IS FLAWLESS IN ITS ANAMORPHIC RATIO AND THE 5.1 SURROUND SOUND IS PERFECT FOR A MOVIE WITH THUNDER LIGHTNING AND NON STOP RAIN. BUY THIS DVD IF YOU WANT TO WATCH ONE OF THE MOST SUSPENSFUL AND ENTERTAINING MOVIES EVER MADE.

The Great Steve Reeves as Hercules

I remember seeing this movie as a child and interestingly enough, now that it is on dvd, my son has bought this for his family. There are no great special effects. And don't look for any great acting, but Hercules is a fun movie and Reeves is the perfect Hercules with a sculpted physique, handsome and charismatic. I hope more Reeves movies become available on dvd. He was the original action hero.

A great eye-opener full of laughs!

If you're looking for a feel-good superficial blockbuster comedy, go look elsewhere. This film is as funny as it is deep. It will show you just how important it is to be yourself even when society won't accept you. I can't recommend this film enough, I wish more people saw it.

Great

This movie plays around the concept of what people know, don't know and think they know. It also clings to the concept of how frightened our parents are for their children and their children's future. Its also nice that the blackmailer has a heart, the attarction between the mother and the blackmailer is also another secret that makes the son believe that he is witness to his mother's adultery as she tries to buy back a videotape of him having sex.The twists and turns of impulse, from first the mother hiding her son's accidentally dead lover's body, she thinks her son did it, he didn't and it was an accident, leads her down the road of being vulnerable to the blackmailer. There's also an emptiness in her life because she's raising three children with a husband who's in the military and away. It becomes a question of what can a person do to protect their own and what limits we would go to in order to protect them. The movie ends with with all of the secrets unrevealed, still hidden and the mother and son closer because they believe they see each other clearer even though they don't know the totality of the truth. And the remarkable part of this film, is that is exactly how we love people. Through our perception and acceptance of them and not necessarily the absolute truth.
