Delightful story for all ages

Only one adjective can describe "Josh and the Big Wall" - DELIGHTFUL! This video delighted everyone from my junior in high school to my 5th and 6th grade students. What a wonderful way to get the message that we must follow God's word even though we may not understand why at first.

A film noir masterpiece...

Double Indemnity is a film noir masterpiece - chilling, dark, and very suspenseful. It features a great script with many memorable lines (for instance - "But I was wrong. You're not smarter, you're just a little taller."), an interesting plot with many good twists, and fantastic performances from two classic stars (especially Stanwyck, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of the evil wife).
Basically, Double Indemnity is about a less-than-brilliant insurance salesman, Walter Neff(Fred MacMurray), who falls for a beautiful married woman (Barbara Stanwyck) who wants to use him to get rid of her husband for the insurance money (hence the title, Double Indemnity). Although he resists her at first, Neff soon falls for the scheming woman and decides to help her plan the perfect murder. The movie itself starts after the murder has been completed with Neff leaving a message for his boss confessing what occurred and then goes back in time to the beginning of the scheme.
Double Indemnity is a great film - the idea behind it, interesting in itself, was brilliantly executed by the legendary director Billy Wilder. Consequently, Indemnity is a true film noir classic and must-see!

Joan of Arcadia - The First Season - movie DVD cover picture

The basic storyline here is about the modern teenage Joan of Arc. But not as dark as the story is told in certain movies and is much more open and exploring than the original story. As an agnostic I must also say that this series is suitable for both religious and non religious, it asks questions and does not give many answers. That is one of the reasons why the series is quite intelligent.

For people who enjoy watching series and movies that gives them something more than mere entertainment I must recommend this series highly. It has helped me become a better person and strive to be a better person. Among many other things it is about tolerance.

It is philosophical, funny, serious, sad, surreal, passionate, romantic, and it even has its own wonderful "scooby gang"!

The DVDs are neatly presented in a box. Many of the episodes includes deleted scenes, and the documentaries, although short, are enjoyable too. I very much like the menus on the dvd's. I am very happy about finally owning this on DVD. And I am very much looking forward to the next season(which is a bit darker) on DVD.

Last I must add that I am 27 years old. Just like Buffy The Vampire slayer is viewable for all audiences so is this one.

Joan of Arcadia rocks!

Badlands - movie DVD cover picture
An American Classic

"He was handsomer then anybody I've ever met, he looked just like James Dean" narrates the naieve voice over of the gently nostalgic Holly (Sissy Spacek) towards the beginning of Badlands. A serliar killer movie so spare and lacking in sensationalism that its bound to dissapoint the less thoughtful among its viewers.
Kit (Matin Sheen) is a real, confident and familiar looking person. He is not a sociopathic religious zealot or a man on a mission, his murders are mostly a matter of convenience, murders that he wouldn't have commited had he not been cornered. He doesn't like killing, but doesn't particualry seem regretful of them either. In short, HE WASN'T EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED.
"He never met a 15 year old who behved like a grown up up and weren't gigly" narrates Holly. She too is a loner, living with a morose and firm father. She is smitten by Kit straight away because he seems to be the only one who would accept her. When Kit kills her father early on in the film, there is no screaming, agitation or hysteria you would find in a similar scene in other films. The most chilling thing about this film is the matter of fact manner in which the murders take place. Malick then contrasts this with the bare, spare and beautiful great out doors of South Dakota and Montana. In his best film, the masterpiece The Thin Red Line he suggested that the cruelty of man was natural, that it was only an extention of what goes on in the animal world. Here the idealogy is even more disturbing, which is cruelty and murder as a matter of convenience. Therefore there are now flashy death scenes or stylistic violence, there isn't even a love scene between Kit and Holly. We do not go along for the ride like for example Bonnie and Clyde, instead we examine the events from above. When Kit threatens a couple with a gun, Holly just strolls after him, and tries to socialise with the girl, like Kit she isn't emotionally connected with the murders, her narration suggests nostalgia, as if she was watching these events in a film herself.
The only time Kit loses his temper is when Holly refuses to go with him on a car chase from the police, "He wanted a girl to cry over his dead body, he was wondering if he could read about himself in the papers the day after his death." The only thing that would anger him is that he may "GO DOWN IN THE SAME PLAYED OUT SCENES" like Bruce Springsteen says in his song Badlands.
Terrance Malick has made three film, all masterpieces. The Thin Red Line remains his best (or anybody's best). Badlands however remains a unique, thoughtful and beautiful film. And for that it should be considered a classic.

National Security (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
This was a good movie despite what the other people say

I don't know whats wrong with you people talking about oh hes racist its hurting me, if you dont like it that ... for you its part of the movie alright? And this one guy says there "were too many racial jokes like, DWB, driving while black, and even the light is white." First of all, DWB is a real thing, the person who wrote the script didnt just make it up. Being a black person I would know that there is such thing as DWB. I knew this when I was about seven years old, and its amazing to me that there are people that have never heard of this. Then theres even the light is white, come on its a joke, lets all go sit in a corner and cry about it. Anyway, after correctig these peoples reviews a little bit, I have to say that National Security was a good funny movie, as long as you arent stuck on the only two racist jokes in the whole movie. Its about Martin Lawrence (Earl) trying out to get into a police academy. They wont let him in because hes just really crazy and they think that he'll get someone hurt. Then comes the part where he locked his keys in his car and hes sticking his arm in the window and the cop comes along and he starts getting mad at the cop and theres a bee that flies behind the police officers head and so Earl tells him hes allergic to bees, and so the officer tries to swat away the bee with his stick and it looks like he is beating Earl so then a guy in the park gets it on tape and takes it to the police station and the guy gets locked up for 6 months because Earl doesnt even try to keep the man from going to jail. when the guy gets out he loses everything. His wife, his badge, his house, everything. The fired police officer has to go through the security and police academy again, but fails at winning his badge back and has to work with Earl as a security guard. While Earl is supposed to be guarding a werehouse, the other security guard shows up because he hears people inside. Earl comes out with his Glock 18c or "Earl Jr.," and attemps to shoot the robbers, they end up getting away and then the police catch the security guards speeding. The robbers are the people who killed the police officers partner in the beginning of the movie, and they have millions of dollars worth of some kind of metal in the shape of a beer keg. The rest of the movie is where they are trying to get the metal, and turn it in to the cops, and then in the end..... see the movie.

Part III is a fitting conclusion

We all know that the first two films are the real masterpieces. But what really surprised me when I watched Part III recently is how good it really is. Sure, it isn't in the same level as its predecessors, but I cannot agree with the people who have panned this movie as terrible. The one big flaw in the movie is the casting of Sophia Coppola as Al pacino's daughter. Her gawkiness on screen makes her love affair with Andy Garcia totally unconvincing; one cannot believe Andy actually sheds tears at the break-up; and when she dies at the end, so emotionally disconnected is the viewer from this character that we wonder what the parents are howling about at the opera-house steps. The rest of the movie, however, is very good indeed and fully deserves its Oscar nomination. The script is well-written; Micheal's character is made more subtle and more tragic; there is great emotional resonance between Micheal and Kay, and between Micheal and Vincent; the veteran actors all give fine performances; and the drawn-out finale is superb. Overall, the movie engages you from start to finish and, though certainly not a masterpiece, is nonetheless a fitting conclusion to this grand American tragedy. So go ahead, buy this collection, and enjoy all three movies again and again.
