Darker, yet not bloody

This sequel is something of a departure from the original, less comic but equally character-driven, and gives us the opportunity to see Mick Dundee exercising his bush skills on his "native heath." The story reverses the geographical course of the original, taking Mick and girlfriend Sue Charlton from New York City back to the Northern Territories in an effort to escape the Colombian drug kingpin (Ubarry) who has targeted them for death. Bad guy Rico has the men and the guns, but Mick Dundee knows the territory, and he exploits that knowledge to the fullest. Like Matthew Quigley, he picks off (or scares off) Rico's men one or two at a time, but manages not to kill any of them, while still contriving to keep himself, Sue, and old partner Walt Reilly (Meillon) alive and unpunctured--and maintaining his lighthearted outlook on the world in general. A good comedy-adventure for families to share.

it's about the music

Hard to beat Deborah Coleman's performance here, but lots of the others are definitely great too. Sometimes you forget about what a wide ranging scene the blues is, and this show really brings it all back home that way. I loved the commentary by the artists about where/how the blues came into their lives, and what it has meant to them. Particularly liked their playing and singing songs right in mid-interview to demonstrate. My only complaint was that there wasn't a second disk with more.

Great discs

This release of 10 episodes is great for all you Friends fans out there. Hopefully WB will release the entire series soon, as they have done in Europe. I have seasons 1 through 6 on DVD, and I gotta say that this is the only way to go if you truly love the show. Don't get me wrong, the quality and contents of these discs are great, but write WB and tell them to release everything!

There's no crying in baseball!

Not only is this a tremendously entertaining film, it's an empowering piece of women's history in sports. I bought it for my daughter because I think it's a must-see for all girls that play sports (of any variety). The obstacles that were overcome by these women in the 40s paved the way for later leagues such as the WNBA, WUSA, and WAFL.
But -- all that aside -- this is a funny, touching film. Penny Marshall doesn't exactly do subtle emotions, so have the Kleenex handy. I dare you not to cry during the war-department telegram scene. Everybody, even Madonna, seems just about perfect in her role. I only wish that there had been more included on the DVD, maybe some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that I usually skip on other DVDs -- it would have been interesting here.
Oh, look sharp during the "Meet the Peaches" scene, where the girls take the field for the first time to the hoots & derision of the crowd. You can see Rosie do a face plant just as she turns to run to third base. Don't know why they didn't reshoot the scene, but there it is :-)

T-34s belong on the East Front

This film is great! The best action footage ever filmed. If you liked The Longest Day, Patton, or A Bridge Too Far, your gonna love this one! War buffs are highly reccomended to see this. It has one drawback however: the T-34s mocked-up to look like Tigers may have worked back in 1970 (Kelly's Heroes) but they look stupid now. Otherwise, BUY THIS FILM!!!

Scary Movie 2, The Killer Parrot

This movie was so much better than the first because the deaths were not viewed with blood, guts or gore. What really made it for me was the knocker on the front door and the parrot. I laughed my rear off and enjoyed the alternate/deleted scenes. An absolute must have! A 100/100 points five star movie. I hope the parrot returns in Scary Movie 3.

Huppert the tops

Huppert's performance in this movie left me staggering out of the theater and determined to see the film at my own pace so I bought the DVD. The movie is a testament to Huppert's versatility. The movie goes far beyond any American movie in its character's relvelations of her lonely and suppressed nature. I cannot imagine any other actress putting herself through the scenes that Huppert, a consumate actress, played with incredible skill. It deserves all the awards it won at the Cannes Film Festival.

An engaging look at a major piece of baseball history

I have had *61 in my collection for a year or so now, and no matter how many times I watch it I still have a hard time holding back cheers when Maris hits the magic 61st. This was an engaging (and accurate from what I can tell) look at an important season in baseball history. I am not a Yankee fan (I actually despise the Yankees)and the disappointing thing about the Maris story is how he was treated at times by Yankee fans and the media and even the Yankee front office and the comissioner. This movie gives us a glimpse of Yankee fans at their best (willing the injured and basically one-armed Mantle to hit a home run and finally giving Maris the cheers he deserves at the end) and worst (their treatment of Maris through most of the season). These aspects are brought to light with emotion and clarity.
The story is great, as is the music and the overall filming. No film is wasted; there is a purpose behind every scene in the movie. Billy Crystal does a great job. There is some foul language so parents might want to me careful when their kids watch this one. I do disagree with a few viewers who said that it takes away from the movie; I don't think it does.
I would recommend that any baseball fan give this movie at least one "at bat." I don't think most will be disappointed.
