Love flies with wings...

A doctor who knew to only believe in what she could see, what she could do. An angel who wanted nothing more than to feel, taste, and be with her. This love story takes you into to worlds, of humans and angels, and shows the possibilites of love when the two collide. An awesome musical score is used, great acting by Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. This film holds a miraculous theory of the lives of angels, and how humans can, in turn, help them. If you find that love is worth falling for, this one is for you.

So fine

Finally released separately on DVD (the previous, pricier edition was packaged with "Pecker"), this is a sweet-comic gem and still the most fun John Waters films. Great performances by Rikki Lake, Divine, Jerry Stiller, and Colleen Fitzpatrick (aka Vitamic C) as Amber von Tussle. The DVD features include the original theatrical trailer and interesting commentary by Rikki Lake and John Waters. A must-have.

Outstanding (for some of us)

Geraldine Page's performance as Eve is pure genius. She embodies the whole idea of fragile hopelessness in this role and is able to convey a range of emotions through the slightest gesture or inflection in her voice. She was cheated at Oscar time by Jane Fonda (everyone knows this) because Fonda was considered a more "glamorous" and copy-worthy figure. Page was never interested in glamor, only in the quality of the performance. She was an actor's actor, and it seems in the years since her untimely death she has been largely forgotten. Why have there been no biographies of her or studies of her work? She was, after all, an important figure in the Actor's Studio in the 50's and 60's and was instrumental in bringing respectability to Off Broadway theatre with her landmark performance in Summer and Smoke. Interiors is her finest hour on screen (almost matched by her Oscar winning turn in The Trip to Bountiful), but it affords other pleasures as well, among them her co-stars' performances and Allen's masterful compositions and sense of lighting.

Conspiracy Theory?

Other movies that have tried (and failed) to cover hacking/conspiracy theories have one fatal flaw. Instead of trying to be entertaining, as movies should be; they take their cues from the mainstream media and try to scare the audience to death with images of cival liberties being taken away as fast as some on screen hacker can type into a not-so-secure government database.
Sneakers on the other hand shows us what the government(and people pretending to be the government) is capable of through the eyes of very entertaining yet somewhat believable characters in the industry. From a phone phreak to an ex cia man, their group covers the gambit in skills and personalities. Redford leads an allstar cast as a good looking social engineer who talks his way past security in lieu of hacking. Dan Akroyd gives a performance unparalelled except maybe for his character in Gross Pointe Blank.
So if you are in the mood for something completely different from the Net, Conspiracy theory, and Masterminds, then this is the movie for you.
Loved it, seen it uncountable times, just upgraded to DVD version. James *Too Many Secrets* Stewart

What a Toy Collection !

When Walt Disney oversaw his production team in the early days, the thing he empasized most about his cartoon shorts and features were the gags. He hammered into his people the need to squeeze as many gags as possible into every frame, so that a viewer would hardly catch his breath from one explosion of laughter before he is overcome by another.
Toy Story and Toy Story II were both made decades after Walt had left his company to others; yet - when you watch it - you get the sense that even after all these years, the folks at Pixar and Walt Disney Studios remember how important it is to make us laugh. When you see these movies, you will giggle, you will chortle, you will snicker and chuckle and cackle and roar. When it's all over, if your sides aren't splitting and you mouth isn't sore from the constant grin, then you have a serious malfunction in the 'sense-of-humor' section of your brain.
And it isn't just funny and touching and exciting in the classic Disney sense - it's also chock full of subtle gags and nostalgic toys. Most young adults will immediately recognize the supporting cast, from Mr. Potato Head, to the etch-a-sketch, to the Slinky dog. Tiny plastic green soldiers march in formation straight from our imagination onto the screen. And even Jaws, and Godzilla, and a barrel of monkeys make their appearence. If you have even the smallest degree of fond memories of your childhood, you will love these movies.
Oh, yeah... your kids'll probably love 'em, too.

Al Pacino's character says it best in one scene: "They're ordinary people under extraordinary pressure. What do you expect--grace and consistency?" A bit slow, but very rewarding.

As far as rated G movies go, this is funny

I like this movie a lot because it is a funny movie without a single dirty joke. It starts out as a normal day in Andy's house. Then they decide to have a yard sale, and because Wheezy's squeaker didn't work, Andy's mom decided to sell him. When Woody went out to save Wheezy, he recused his friend, but Woody fell behind and a man steals him! The movie is all about how the toys are trying to rescue Woody while he is wondering if he wants to be rescued. The movie is very funny, but the funniest part are the outakes in the credits. in these outakes, you see Woody sit inside a roll of tape, Jesse break Woody's string, a Buzz Lightyear burp, and Stinky Pete letting his natural gas creep up on him! Hilarious movie, a good watch.

Don't miss this indie gem

A true gem. Caught two thirds of it on TV so missed the title. Been looking for it by tracking Danny Aiello. Then it ran again on a cable channel. Really good mix of several plots and characters mostly by actors unknown to me. Very understated. Nice plot twists.

Conan the Barbarian - movie DVD cover picture
A Masterpiece of Sound and Images!

With the arrival of "Gladiator" to DVD, movie fans and critics are cheering to the film's famous chant of "Maximus! Maximus Maximus!" While indeed an impressive film, the arrival of "Conan the Barbarian" to an excellent collectors edition DVD makes a welcome companion.
"Conan the Barbarian" is a fantastic film in which the marriage of visual style with beautiful rich music creates a rare fantasy adventure unlike any to blaze the big screen. Ok, all fans of Conan know this. So what makes the DVD Collector's edition so great?
1. Widescreen: I can actually see all of Arnold's sword now! 2. Audio: While still a mono soundtrack, the DVD creates a CD like audio which is presented in all its glory. 3. Documentary: Awesome! So many facts, so many interviews, so much insite. Conan heaven! 4. Full Feature Commentary: Arnold and John (the director) are both funny and informative. Who knew Conan had so much depth? Only the obsessed fans like me of course! 5. Cut Scenes & Special Effects: Awesome again! Not enough words.
Overall, this is what DVD should be all about! Great Movie (widescreen), excellent picture, clear sound, and lots and lots of obsessed fan stuff. Get it!
