Son House & Bukka White - Masters of the Country Blues - movie DVD cover picture
"The Snake that lays an egg ain't poisonous..."

After viewing this DVD several times I will say that I am not only impressed with Son House the musician, but also with the man.
The mumbled monologues and inaudible introductions by Son House almost made me feel sorry for him, not in a negative way, but in a way that I wanted to do something for him, to help him have more courage. The more I viewed him and was able to decipher the words I realized his forthrightness in speaking this way to an audience who was so foreign to him and I was overwhelmed with his honesty and sincerity.
The music itself is spellbinding and reaches the very heart and soul of an open-minded listener. The beat he taps with his shoe while playing creates an almost otherwordly aura around this music that I believe to be of the deepest expression men have ever conveyed through sound. This beat is at the root of all popular music today, although this expression is unparalleled. How is it that an uneducated man from an oppressed group of people can be so wise and able to communicate through music this wisdom? He had true wisdom which doesn't come from knowledge, it comes from truth, or as House puts it, "from above."
All this I gathered from his monologues but I don't want to take away from the pure simplicity of Son House's music. Yet it is hard for me to understand the music, being a white man in another world from House, separated in this regard but united as men. I can see the lines on his face and the pure humanity of his words and I struggle to understand the deep expression of his music and my love for it.
Son House had quit playing the guitar completely for years and was working regular jobs when he was rediscovered by men with an interest in exploring America's musical direction and preserving the blues.
Anyone with similar motives should look into this DVD, or anyone that simply loves the blues. The segments of Bukka White are a testimony to his influence and greatness. This is the blues at it's raw core, without electricity or accompaniment, gloriously simple but simply glorious!
In this age of technology, there's mass media, quick entertainment and television politicians, it's hard to know just who or what to believe anymore. Listen to the words of Son House, "I love a snake if I wasn't scared of him, but I can't trust him. Somebody said the snake that lays an egg ain't poisonous, but I don't trust none of 'em, I don't care how many eggs he lay..."

"My name is Gladiator......" A must see film

I'll be honest, at the cinemas I avoided watching this film when it was first released because I am not into historic epical films. But soon my friends talked me into watching the film. This film I would recommend to anyone, if like me you watch a lot of movies or even just casual movie goer you'd be stupid to miss this film. Russel Crowe in one of his best performances. I bet Mel Gibson and Arnold Shwarzeneger feel stupid for turning down the part of Russel Crowe (I heard they were offered the part). I was surprised at the less talk and more action in this film, a lot of edge of seat fights and great performances all round. It is my best film of the year 2000. The dvd will be a treat with 2 disc edition, which every dvd collector should have in their collection.

Infinatly Excellent DVDs...for Earth Beings.

Hello reader, I am Ignignokt and this is Err. We are Mooninites from the inner core of the moon. Our race is hundreds of years beyond yours. Since we are so advanced, we are being gracious enough to assist your primitive mind in selecting humorous DVDs. Listen well or prepare to receive a moon spanking.

Though our sense of humor is beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain, these DVDs are primitive enough for you to find humorous. They are about the Aqua Teens, primitive earth fast food products. Most of the humor in these episodes in something you earth people call 'irreverent.' If you are amused by this 'irreverent' humor, you will likely find yourself in fits of primitive laughter as you watch. Though all of these episodes are very inferior by moon standards, such episodes as "Super Birthday Snake" and "Universal Remonster" are riotous by your primitive earth standards. Unfortunately for you, some of these episodes are infinitely boring, even by inferior Earth standards.

These DVDs, being primitive Earth DVDs, contain 13 episodes over two DVDs. On the moon we have 15...thousand episodes on two DVDs, so you are getting ripped off. Still these are only Earth DVDs, and you are mere Earthlings, so you probably won't even be able to notice how short these DVDs are.

There are also special features. They include things such as featurettes about the making of this show and a gallery of concept art. Also present is the Space Ghost episode, "Baffler Meal," which introduced the Aqua Teens to your primitive culture. The first disc also includes Easter eggs, containing various shorts, mostly using puppets. On the moon, we would have hundreds of DVDs devoted to special features alone, and there would be thousands of Easter eggs per disc, but by Earth standards the special features are good enough to make you "Hot Blooded" with excitement.

Sadly, Err and I make only a brief cameo in this set. However, for you primitive minds, this might be just as well since our humor is so funny that it would be beyond all that you could possibly comprehend with 100% of your brain.

So, if you silly Earth people are looking for something to stimulate your primitive sense of humor, you will find these DVDs to be as infinitely excellent as Carl's pornography. You should buy them immediately (or sink them deep within your body). So go ahead, sodomize your limited imagination. And smoke while you are doing so.

The Duke in his most poignant role

The Shootist is The Duke's final role, that of an aging gunfighter dying of cancer (which was actually happening when the film was made). It is a touching, sad story of a misunderstood man with a heart of gold who only wants to die in peace, but finds nothing but prejudice and hate from narrow-minded townsfolk and creeps who want to do him in just to make a name for themselves. This is a truly moving film, sure to make anyone who sees it a John Wayne fan.

Breath taking

This is just an absolutely breathing taking series. The photography is utterly amazing. The narative is great, informative and well paced. It is with good reason that other reviewers say to watch this on HDTV (and a home theater system) though it's still incredible if you have a regular tv.
All four parts are great. A small warning for young kids though, the end of one of the DVD's shows killer whales "playing" with a seal pup. Not playing nice -- but tossing it like a ball between them. Otherwise, it's pretty tame (well, there are fish swalling other fish whole, but nothing grusome

It's so bad it's great!

This as got to be my favourite movie of all time, I never ever get sick of watching this. I watched this film many years ago when I was looking at videos to rent and I found this, the story line itself should make any one want to watch this, all my freinds have been forced to watch this, some loved it, others horrifed by it, take it all with a pinch of salt and sit back and laugh at such trashy behavior. Its not to be taken serious , but I dont think these films ever where ment to be. Just outragous and crazy humour, if you like shock value, watch this film. The wonderful Divine plays her best role to date

I got the glow!

Finally, I have been waiting on this DVD since I got my first dvd player three years ago. I love this movie and I don't care what anyone has to say. This movie combines martial arts, comedy and music to tell a story that could only happen in the BIG APPLE. Bruce LeRoy facing off against Sho Nuff to see who is the master. The 1985 movie has a good final sequence and all though a little corny at times that is part of its appeal. If I had ten thumbs I would give it ten thumbs up, but I only have two. "When I say who's the master, you say...Sho Nuff!"
