Connecter of 2 & 3 of the greatest film saga ever conceived!

I have read the reviews on line here at about "Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume One," some I agree with, others I don't. I remember when this series of animated shorts were released on the Cartoon Network and they are still saved on my TiVo and my girlfriend & I both agree that what made these 5-minute shorts better than their two live action predecessors was that George Lucas was not the director. Lucas was however the executive producer and the characters were created by Lucas himself and the stories were based on Lucas' backstory. George Lucas is a great storyteller, creating great characters and a great adventure to watch those characters grow within the film, but he is no director, and I was glad he finally stepped aside and let a real director take control.

Even though these shorts leave little room for character development within their single episode, put them together as this DVD does and you see plenty of development of many of the prequel's characters. We see how Obi-Wan got the rank of General and how much of a great hands on leader he is of his troops. We also see more of a division between Obi-Wan & Anakin. We are introduced to the female Dark Jedi, Asajj Ventress, as she "auditions" before Count Dooku to take the place left by Jengo Fett. We are also introduced to the powerful mercenary Durge as he fights against Obi-Wan's ground troops and personally fights Obi-Wan himself. We watch as Jedi Master Kit Fisto leads Arc Troopers in fighting to protect the planet Mon Calamari. We watch as Jedi Master Mace Windu single handedly takes out a whole division of droid warriors and their war machines. We are introduced to female Jedi Luminara Unduli and her female padawan Barriss Offee as they defend the crystal caves at the Jedi Temple on the planet Ilum and are later rescued by Yoda & Padm?. With Anakin we see the subtle romantic feelings between secret newlyweds Anakin & Padm? as Anakin departs for the war, and we see how Anakin got the title of "the best starpilot in the galaxy." We also see Anakin come even closer to the Dark Side of the Force when Anakin comes face to face with Asajj Ventress, as Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Yoda & Qui-Gin all sense Anakin's battle with the Dark Jedi. And we see many Jedis & Padawans fight alongside the three Jedi Masters Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura and Shaak Ti as they fight the unstoppable General Grievous, the Jedi killer. This set of 20 animated shorts has been spliced together into an hour and half animated movie.

This is a great series and a must watch for all those who plan on seeing "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" and don't forget to check out volume two when it premiers on the Cartoon Network on May 21st, 2005, two days after the premier of "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith." The entire "Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume One" was filmed on widescreen film so it is best to watch in widescreen mode and in a home theater atmosphere to get the best of the great sound. Highly recommended!

Best anime ever!

This is by far the best anime shows I've ever seen, and this DVD has all 13 of the OVA shows, dubbed and subbed! The dubbed version was also done very well, unlike most other animes... This is the best DVD for any anime fan! And if you've seen the cartoon network (toonami) version haven't seen a thing!

One of the best comedies ever made!

I've seen this movie so many times(including its debut in theatres)that I recently got sick of renting it and just bought it. You can honestly watch this one over and over and still laugh like you are seeing it for the first time. A must have for all true comedy buffs.

A special movie

"Grease" is one of those rare, special movies that you can watch over & over & over again, and still love it.
Olivia Newton-John is great as the sweet, innocent Sandy, while John Travolta is perfect as cool-guy Danny.
The whole movie is witty, funny, and there is music to suit all themes during the movie. Sure, the movie is over 20 years old, but it is also a timeless classic, and there is not one person I know that does not like this movie. Who could hate such a wonderful movie anyway?

~!* Wow*!~

I saw this movie after buying it. I'd read the reviews here and wasn't sure if I wanted to really watch it. But I did and it was suprisingly good. But why is it rated PG-13? I mean I'm not even eleven and I watched it. There was really nothing wrong, my sister could've watched it. Anyway, Mean Girls is a great movie and I would recommend it to anyone.

Cinemas greatest masterpiece

From the riveting Overture to the thunderous Anno Domino fanfare after the manger scene, to the joyous close, who can walk away from Ben Hur without paying tribute to Miklos Rozsa? This awesome film works on so many levels, complemented and supported in subtle and exurberant fashion by this obvious music genius. How many times can we thank him, for the score hits the heart dead on and compels us to watch and indeed live in the time of Ben Hur.
A movie and a score that will live for as long as humanity breathes.

Written on the Wind - Criterion Collection - movie DVD cover picture

This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edition of the film.
This movie was groundbreaking in several ways. It can be descibed best as a soap opera.
It is the story of a family and their relationship with friend of one of the family members. A man falls in love with the sister of his best friend. Later both of them fall in love with a different woman who they fight over. She later marries one of them but when she becomes pregnant, the husband, believing himself to be sterile, accuses his friend of being the father.
The film deals with subjects rarely (if ever) mentioned in movies of the time and sparked controversey as a result.
The DVD has theatrical trailers for both this film and the film "All That Heaven Allows" which was also directed by Douglas Sirk and released by Criterion as well. There is also a huge presentation and slideshow of many of Douglas Sirk's other films.

A Gift From the Gods

This is something you should own if you merely like Gentle Giant. (Are there such people?) If, however, you see Gentle Giant as an essential component of the Cosmos, then, well, this is something you simply have to have. Your life will not be complete without it.

Simply a wonderful movie. See it!

I am a train enthusiast who heard about this film through friends who are also interested in the hobby. I wasn't sure what to expect but, after reading several reviews, wanted to see it. It was absolutely incredible, and the other 500 or so folks who ventured out on a cold and snowy Friday afternoon to see a cinema society screening seemed to enjoy it as well. The surroundings and the receptive audience only made the movie that much better.
It's hard to describe the movie to friends...a movie about a dwarf who likes trains and inherits an abandoned depot. I simply tell them that it is about so much more than trains. But there are those "been there, done that" moments to which railfans will relate: screening home movies of trains in a dark room filled with railfans, and chasing trains (although I have never had as much fun as the characters had in this movie). I will let others talk about all of the other plot points, etc. If you are a train fan, see will see yourself (and, oh, the thought of owning a depot and cars next to a track). If you are a movie fan, see is a tremendous production. If you have a pulse, see is a moving, touching, wonderful, funny, sparkling movie. Make your friend see it. I did, and they loved it (one even ended up at a complex which was also showing porn movies, but that didn't deter them from enjoying the movie). I will own it when it comes out on DVD and loan it to all of my friends. See it!
