ClOcKeRs IS RAW, REAL ,and POWERFUL

With so many films based around the topic of drugs, and urban decay, and leaving the audience with a sense of (ok,I've seen this story before)made me ask "IS ClOcKeRs worth my time?" Hell yes! Spike Lee'S classic, ... yes classic, is so RAW,REAL,and POWERFUL that it makes all previous drug focused films seem pointless. what i mean is, most films that cover this topic seem to glamorize the lifestyle, and leaves no message.ClOcKeRs is the tail of A young black male called Strike who's spot on the benches and bleeding ulcer is getting the best of him, until his boss Rodney gives him a chance to move up in the drug game. When a fellow drug dealer gets killed, and Strike's hard working (legit) brother confesses to the murder,A detective by the name of Roco feels that there's more to the story. With a very raw intro and out standing directing, Spike Lee brings the realness to the screen with ClOcKeRs. so go rent it Aiight.

A magnificent film, powerful and moving!

This film, depicting the impact a teacher can have on his students' lives, and the disastrous effects when their parents defy the free thinking he encourages, is inspiring and deep.Never again can you hear the phrase "Carpe Diem" without being filled with the desire to make your life extraordinary.

Untouchable

As far as off-beat commedies go (or any genre of film for that matter), this movie is untouchable. The only commedy I can think of that even comes close to this movie in wit and brilliant character development is Rushmore, and even that is a relatively distant second. I have watched this film about a thousand times and I still find interesting and minute details that I have never noticed before. Anytime you get stressed out or find yourself taking life a little too seriously just kick back with a White Russian and enjoy this film.

Perhaps the greatest movie of all time

This movie is one of the greatest of all time. It pits good against evil, shows the power of non-conformity, and shows that it is okay to be who you are even if you're messed up, because after all, everyone else is, too.R.P. McMurphy, who is played by Jack Nicholson, is brought to a mental institution so it can be decided by the powers that be if he is faking mental illness just to get out of jail, or if he is really mentally ill. For a time he is going to be evaluated so this determination can be made.Nurse Ratchet is the nurse who is in charge of the ward that McMurphy is put on. She is the true definition of an antagonist and also very malicious, even though it appears she doesn't think that she is. She makes the patients on the ward talk about their problems and then criticizes them, and makes them dependant on the institution. McMurphy tries to show the patients that they're no more messed up than the average person through antics such as a fishing trip and a basketball game versus the employees of the institution, all of which he uses to show the patients they can do things like normal people. This movie is a masterpiece and this review does not do it justice. It is an inspirational movie and the acting is superb by Nicholson and Fletcher (Nurse Ratchet)as well as the excellent supporting cast that includes Christopher LLoyd, Danny DeVito, Scatman Crothers, Wil Sampson, and Brad Dourif just to name a few.

Lassa Hallstrom does it again.

I haven't viewed all of Hallstrom's work, however what I have seen is brilliant. I didn't sit and watch this film,I was in the film ,these actor's were people I knew. This is how to describe the reality the movie projects, it pull's you into the story line, which deals with some heavy subject matter. You are given the material, some of wich comes right to the core of your soul and thoght. You are never left with the feeling of being right or wrong on your own opinon's of these issues, only this reality, the world is so much more than my thoughts alone. The old saying "Good People can do Bad Things"never hit so clear in a movie as this one did. This was Michael Caine at his best, period.Tobey Maquire was just as good, you looked at this character and saw the innocence of youth, you could feel the pain that comes with maturity that he had to endure. This movie will stay with you for some time after you leave the theater, you probably won't change your opinions you've had for years to form,it just may make you less critical of those that differ from yours. This is the movie to see,if you only see one this year, this is it.

Harrowing Just to Watch

My son and I came out of the theater exhausted just by watching this quasi-documentary reenactment of the 1985 ascent up an unclimbed route on the Siula Grande glacier in Peru. The film's impact is heightened by the excellent cutting between the actor/climbers and Simon Yates and Joe Simpson, who recall their actions, reactions, and feelings nearly 20 years later. Disaster strikes on the descent, where -- as one of them notes -- "80 percent of accidents happen." After Simpson breaks his leg in a fall, Yates -- against impossible odds -- continues to try and get him down. Finally, Simpson falls again, off the edge of the mountain. After hours of hanging on to what feels like dead weight, Yates cuts the rope to prevent himself from being gradually pulled into the void. Simpson's survival and return to base camp is nothing short of miraculous, suggesting that man is never more tenacious about life than when he is closest to losing it. Though far different in its circumstances, his story rivals that of Shackleton and the Endurance in Antartica three quarters of a century before. An underlying issue, addressed briefly in the film, is whether Yates should have cut the rope. Apparently some other climbers criticized him for doing so, but Simpson always defended his action. I have no idea how well the technical aspects of Touching the Void are done, but to this mostly earthboard amateur, they looked brilliantly and truly shot. Danger and beauty are scarcely separable in Touching the Void. When you are not immersed in the terror of Yates' and, especially, Simpson's plight, the frigid beauty of the glacier, the colors within its crevasses are glorious. A story of recklessness and great determination, superbly told, filled with many "how did they ever shoot that?" moments, Touching the Void must be seen.
