Office Space (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Some of the funniest scenes, with an overall bland plot

I love this movie. It has so many individual scenes that are hilarious. The overall plot and story aren't the greatest, but I've found most people can over look this.
This movie is rated R, and I think its one of the tamest R movies I've seen. There is brief nudity and a fair amount of swearing (mainly in rap music). However, the R rating may be for the best since I don't think anyone under the driving age will think this movie is all that funny. It's mainly work related and relationship comedy. I am thrilled to say there is no "bodily fluid" humor that has been in so many movies lately.
The DVD features are almost nonexistant.

Kill Bill, Volume 2 - movie DVD cover picture
Far Superior to Vol. 1

Tarentino's masterpiece is complete. Kill Bill Vol. 1 had all the style a three and a half hour film could possibly need crammed into one 90 minute session. Volume 2 is everything it needed to be and more. It has enough plot, dialogue and heart to flesh out what is essentially one incredibly piece of work.

For anyone who needs reminding I'll skip through the plot. A former assassin only know as The Bride (Uma Thurman) is on a quest to gain revenge on her former colleagues known as the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (or DiVAS) for gate crashing her wedding and killing everyone who was present before thier employer Bill (David Carradine) put a bullet in her head.

After somehow surviving and spending four years in a coma, The Bride awakens and swiftly proceeds to kill two DiVAS. Now with three names left on her death list, the roaring rampage of revenge continues.

The film opens at the church where the massacre occurred and a lengthy conversation between The Bride and Bill. This is the first sign that you're watching a very different film than you might have expected. Not just a gory bloodfest, this feels more like a Tarentino movie. There's a lot more dialogue but unlike films such as Pulp Fiction there is no idol chit-chat about what McDonalds in Europe call their hamburgers. Here the discussion pushes the plot along developing the characters and filling in some of the blanks.

QT is famous for resurrecting the career of faded stars and Carradine may be his greatest find. Bill's face never appeared on camera in Vol. 1 but his haunting voice built an air of mystique around him. From his first proper on screen appearance Carradine breathes live into his character in a magnificent performance.

One of the things I found interesting about the first volume was how the members of the DiVAS have ended up four years later. O-ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) rose to the top of the Japanese crime world, whereas Vernita Green (Vivica A Fox) became a normal housewife. Now we are introduced properly to the remaining members. Budd (Michael Madsen) works as a bouncer is a cheap club in Texas and lives in a trailer. Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) is more of a mystery. She drives an expensive car and has easy access to a million dollars but her present is never explained. Perhaps she still works for Bill?

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is so much more than the almost farcical, but terrifically entertaining bloodbath the original was. It's time to consider both films as one complete work and as a single 3 hour long piece, it's a flawless work of genius.

Someday's Dreamers - Magical Dreamer (Vol. 1) - With Series Box - movie DVD cover picture
Gorgeous Story

This is definitely more of a "chick-flick" anime, but the story and artwork are both beautifully understated. I wouldn't really say that Someday's Dreamers is aimed at adolescent girls, though I'm sure it would appeal to some. In general, I would say the action and romances are too slow to develop and will leave the average teenaged girl bored long before she could appreciate the subtle nuances of the story.
This series' creator has taken a more "realist" approach to things, presenting a solid, stoically paced story with beautifully realistic imagery.
At times, the story leaves the viewers confused, but things are explained in time, and it helps us relate to the dazed, confused Yume.
Just do yourself a favor and watch it in Japanese...the dubbers' decision to give certain characters Southern drawls to emphasize that they are from the "country" was stupid.

I can definitely relate

I loved this movie . I could relate to this movie because I went to school with a "Tracy Flick", as I'm sure most of you out there have as well , and wouldn't we all love to be Mr. McAllister and try to bring her (or him) down !
This movie had so many elements , but the whole teacher/student relationship was the most important to me . I loved how we were allowed to witness inside of Mr. McAllister's head and find out how much he really detested Tracy . I often wondered that during my own school days as to how the teachers thought of those annoying do-gooders .
To see that Tracy in the end prevails and comes out smelling like roses , for you see we cannot hold back the "Tracy Flick's" of this world , because as the movie shows they succeed by lieing and cheating their way to stardom and success !! And its the "Mr. McAllister's" of this world who have to suffer because of them , oh how true is life . Call me cynical , but you got to love the realistic protrayal that these two wonderful actors give to us .
Definitely one of my top 10 favourite movies of all time .

Jarman

Not for everyone, but a great film by a great film director and stylist. Edward 2 is the play by Christpher Marlowe (1564-1593), author of The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, and the presumed Shakespearean writer. This film presents a Jacobean style rendering of this play with very modern sets and costumes and truly a hightened gay sensibility. Tilda Swinton sings Cole Porter in transluscent style a year before she performed in "Orlando". I would recommend it highly.
