Cowboy Bebop Complete Sessions Collection ( Exclusive) - movie DVD cover picture
Captivating Until the Final Session

First thing, this is not a boxed set and is just a collection of 6 discs. If you are in this for an artistic box, holding artistic DVDs, you'll have to make your own. This series is a masterpiece of animation and music combined to form an artistic story ranging from love to all out blood battles.
I highly recommend this entire series, which follows a group of bounty hunters in a space futuristic setting. Spyke, one of the main characters, finds himself with the 3 things he hates most all "neatly gathered on our (Jet actually owning the Bebop) ship!" Children, pets, and women.
There are moments of sadness, suspense, and tons of laughs.

A great version of a classic

What can I say that hasn't been said before? A masterpiece that arose from chaos and confusion. Perhaps the best total cast of any film ever made! The DVD is so good one can see that many of Bergman's scenes were shot in soft focus to make her more beautiful - as if she needed that! I was more affected by the film watching it on DVD than at any other time - and when they start playng the Marseilles at Rick's Cafe - WOW!! A great documentary comes with it along with other trailers for other Bogart films.

Chicago (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
A wonderful, conservative, and artistic movie!

Deep down - this movie is irredeemably cynical about human nature. This is a very conservative, Christian worldview.
Chicago mocks the legal system (Billy Flynn a Johnnie Cochran-type shyster who gets women murders off by turning their trials into media circuses). It mocks the media (Mary Sunshine - seeing the world through a liberal's rose-colored glasses). It mocks the government. And it mocks liberals by making incredibly sexy images of hot women in leotards - smoking cigarettes).
It does not go near the church however.
As a dancer I love the fabulous dance numbers - glittery, sexy, and clever. My favorite is Roxie's cabaret number - the one with her in the glittery silver leotard and high-heeled silver shoes; and of course Cell Block Tango, and All That Jazz - very sexy numbers. All healthy, heterosexual men will love this film.
Unlike Moulin Rouge which was about cinematography - not dancing, this movie does dance. You see the dancers' bodies (very nicely) and their character is communicated through their dancing - not fast-paced editing.
This movie is not for children (unless you read the original Grimm's Fairy Tales to your children), but it is for adults.
Indulge yourself, smirk at authority. Go see Chicago.

Full Frame Documentary Shorts Vol 1 - movie DVD cover picture
interesting and thought provoking!!!

This DVD was hard for me to find, but, once I located it and was finally able to view it, it was well worth the time and effort! This is a collection of documentary shorts by various filmmakers on various topics. While some of the filmmakers are very well known (Mira Nair, as an example), other pieces are made by filmmakers who are up and coming, emerging as a new chapter in the journey and vision of documentary filmmaking.

The subject matter varied from "Laughing Club of India" (by Mira Nair--- a humorous look at an organized club, situated in Mumbai, where people of varied generations come together to laugh together, on a regular basis as a cathartic and Yoga-based method of stress release and physical therapy), to "Why Can't We Be a Family Again" (a moving piece done by Roger Weisberg and Murray Nossel about a couple of young boys growing up in Brooklyn, being raised by their maternal grandmother, while their mother is in drug rehab). The other films are also very interesting, and some of the subject matter was rather zany and even chilling. These topics ranged from a group of elderly Jewish women in New York, playing mah jong and recalling memories from their rich and interesting lives ("We Got Us"), a two minute look at a Bulgarian filmmaker and her various experiences in filmmaking ("Lucy Tsak Tsak"), a lesbian couple and their small business centered around cleaning up crime scenes ("Family Values"), a gritty flop house in the Bowery (called, ironically "The Sunshine") and the famous phone booth that once stood in the Mojave Desert in California, and was the destination for callers and visitors to the desert, while it stood until its demise in 2000 ("Mojave Mirage").

This collection is almost beyond description or comparison to anything I have ever viewed before. You just have to check it out for yourself. What a wonderful education!!! Eye opening and very intriguing.......

The Truman Show - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best movies of the year

It is hard to believe that Jim Carrey wasn't nominated for a bunch of academy awards for his role in "The Truman Show" because it's probably his best role so far. All of Jim Carrey's family and friends are actors under the direction of the director (Ed Harris) who has seen all of Mr. Truman's life from the time he was born up to now. A camera is always following Mr. Truman (Jim Carrey) and is broadcast live around the world 24/7 on a popular television channel called "The Truman Show." Mr. Truman becomes somewhat weary of what is happening and that's when the movie gets even more interesting.
I recommend anybody to get "The Truman Show" so you can find out if and how Jim Carrey can escape the cameras and have some freedom for the first time in his life. "The Truman Show" isn't the funniest movie that Jim Carrey has been in, in fact it's more of a drama movie, but it is just as entertaining as any of his other movies.

Neil Young in Berlin - movie DVD cover picture
A wide ranging look at Young's many musical faces.

One of the things you have to like about Neil Young is that he doesn't limit himself strictly to one genre--his music moves from folk through pop to classic rock to near grunge--yet always retains his own distinctive edge and style.
This is an excellent video in that most of those genre's are covered in a fairly eclectic set of tunes that represent a good cross section of his career. There's a bit of overemphasis on his "electronic" phase, which is somewhat understandable as he'd just released Trans prior to this tour. That caveat aside, this is an excellent and powerful performance that features an equally eclectic array of periodic Young sidemen in a supporting role.
I'm not normally one for video music--I usually fine it flat and contrived at best--but this session is an exception. The performance comes through with a lot of energy and highlights why Neil has a reputation as a much better than average live performer.
This is a tape that will please any young fan and will act as a good general introduction to those not familiar with his work.
Pick this up and keep Rockin' in the Free world!
