I purchased my copy from Amazon, and dispite what had been written in the past reviews, Amazon supplies a copy that has really good audio quality. It has been digitaly remastered and has enhanced audio. This movie is great! I enjoy and collect odd/twisted movies, and this is a prize find! If you buy 1 movie this year, make sure it's MEET THE FEEBLES!!! I also suggest you get it through amazon, strictly based on past reviews of copies purchased elsewhere. If you know of any other odd, twisted or evil-over the edge movies (other than "I spit on your grave") please e-mail titles to TMILES7@COGECO.CA Thanks, hope you enjoy this video

This movie is one of the best vietnam films ever made. Stanley Kubrick at his finest. Matthew Modine is brilliant, but ex drill seargent R. Lee Emry is the highlight of the film, using all of his own insults. Funny, violent and thoughtful. A must in any collection.

Take me now, Elizabeth...

If the makers of this movie seriously thought that Liz Hurley's off-the-scale sexuality could carry an entire movie, they were right.
However, given the quality of the cast, led by the always superb Brendan Fraser, with the gorgeous, classy Frances O'Connor as a perfectly cast love interest, and the masterful direction of Harold Ramis, the movie carries itself.
This is an inspired re-make of the amazing original Pete and Dud movie, which featured sixties/seventies goddess (she still is) Racquel Welch. Having a divine creature like Elizabeth Hurley playing the Devil, especially utilizing a fantasy temptress wardrobe to die for, was a stroke of genius. Liz as a schoolmarm, a nurse, a cheerleader... I can't go on...
The extra features are excellent from the Commentaries (including Liz H.) to the absolutely invaluable Making Of feature, hosted by La Hurley, which suggests that her considerable sex appeal - a huge part of which is her wicked sense of humor - is just a natural function of who she is, rather than something she has to work at projecting, like Britney Spears.
A message to the movie? Yes, pretty much the same as in the original - that happiness cannot come from external trappings. That you have to find your Truth within you, and if you can learn to love yourself, you will automatically be more loveable and more interesting to others, without having to seduce them with money and power. A valid message, which bears endless repetition.
You see? I just showed my sensitive, creative, spiritually aware side... and I got through the whole review without mentioning the impossibly beautiful Elizabeth Hurley's billion dollar legs.... Aaaaargh... CUT

Ju Dou - movie DVD cover picture

Reviewing Ju Dou is probably the most difficult thing I have had to do. Part Aida, part Anna Karenina, Ju Dou has just about every element of a timeless Opera - passion, rage and death. The climax is nothing short of spectacular - the movie, nothing short of a classic.
The movie brings up all kinds of questions and explores the problematic of freedom. First, are we to laugh or cry? Is this dark comedy really that funny? Is she really trapped? Why did Yang Tian not take her offer and leave? Was China in the 1920 (or for that matter, even today) really that unforgiving? If this scenario is written about and filmed in China, written about into an Opera in Italy by Verdi and immortalized in a novel by Tolstoy, is this situation really that uncommon? What was the significance of all the dyed cloth? Was it a backdrop for the stark reality? Was it juxtaposed as a "potential" freedom of a life of color in a sea of black?
As the camera lustily soaked in the light that was forcing its was through the drying fabric and all the philosophical questions dissolved, I found myself engulfed in a sea of color and waving fabric. The questions posed by the movie remain - to haunt other art forms in the future as it did in the past.

absalutly perfect

YES!YES!YES!at first i was a little scared. It was rather pricy and i didnt no if anthony would have a good voice or not.those thoughts quickly vanished.I couldnt get over how alot of songs were alot better live.Every song has a different and largly improved solo(great job john),and some songs they add and change around to them.

When i saw the listing, i reallized all exept for 4 were from by the way and californication, and 3 from bssm.So I just asumed havana affair was one of there old songs, but was wrong.havana affair is a remake of the ramones.never heard the origanal, but bassed on this version, this song is exelent.A highlight for sure.

songs like dont forget me and throw away your telivision are only ok on the studio, but they really brigh it to life live. The piece that they add to throw away your television is great, making it one of the best on here.

they did a really cool versions of scar tissue ,parrellel universe and the zepher song. All of them with just flat out amazing solos and there long to!

The only ones that arnt that good live is by the way, right on time and universally speaking, but they arnt that great to begin with.

There are alot of jams to.The best one is the californication intro with john and flea battling. They jam before the power of equality and right on time.John does a really cool high pitch mini song early on and does a bit of singing before parellel univese. One other jam is fleas bass solo that leads into around the watch that solo, then try telling me that hes not the best bass player ever. The guy is just so incredible. The really sweet guitar solos can be found in scar tissue, zepher, californication, parallel univere, dont forget me,give it away, and a really cool riff on venic queen.

So really good vocals, absalutly amazing solos by john and flea and i forgot to say about the kick ass drum solo before californication(which flea plays his saxamaphone with) equals the best live performace you will ever see(along with zepelin).

Must buy for any fan and if your new to the peppers, this would be the best start.

Not Heinlein, but Not Bad Either!

Starthip Troopers (the Novel) is a treasured memory of my youth. Heinlein wrote a simplistic story with deep undertones about patriatism, duty to the state, and crime and punishment. His book contains no triangular love story, and actually very little combat. It's a story of a boy coming of age in a militiristic society. Paul Voerhoeven's movie shares many traits from the book. The story is simplistic, but has many undertones and subtelties. He has bumped up the action from the book possibly BECAUSE of his background as a child of World War II Holland. His film beautifully asks one simple question... Is this what you want? Is this the world you want to live in? Blood and Gore are the tools of the common soldier, the Grunt. The book, and this film are about the common Grunt. No elegance is required. Common soldiers aren't elegant people. The film highlights the youthful exhuberance of three highs school grads going into Federal service. This movie, and Heinlein's book are both about courage under fire, duty, loyalty, and how war molds young men and women in different ways. Not for the squeemish, and those who have read the book should hit the "purge" button before viewing for maximum enjoyment. The missing high tech weapons from the Heinlein book would have been excellent, but I understand why they are missing... maybe someday... Taken on it's own, the movie is a powerful message, perhaps more powerful than Heinleins original message in some ways. I disagree with those who have commented that the acting was bad. The story goes by so fast it would be hard to notice if it was. But look for the highlights... Enjoy the sequence with Carmen's arrival at, and first day driving the Rodger Young. And the scene with Michael Ironside seeing a swarm of thousands of bugs attacking a makeshift outpost is priceless. Like RoboCop, not everyone will get "it". But watch it. Note the polarity in comments here. This film is ART. And Art makes you think. The DVD is the best I currently own. BAM

Erasure - The Tank, The Swan, and The Balloon Live - movie DVD cover picture
FINALLY the best Erasure concert on DVD!!!!

I have already viewed this concert on a bootleg VHS tape from about 1992 when the concert was released in the U.K. only. Even with that poor quality this concert stands head and shoulders above other Erasure concerts available and most other pop bands of the era as well. With costume and set changes to match many a Broadway show, amazing identical twin backup singers and a full dancing troup in an intemate venue make for one amazing concert experience. This was filmed at the height of the bands commercial success and it shows. This show is a delightful mixture of high camp AND near perfectly executed live renditions of some of the bands greatest hits and some relatively obscure music. This is an absolute must for any serious fan and also a fun diversion for the casual fan as well.

Stray Cats - Rumble in Brixton - movie DVD cover picture
Rockin' Like it's 1981 !

When the first Star Trek movie was released, someone said it was like seeing your old friends from years ago and knowing they're all doing well. The Stray Cat's "Rumble in Brixton" DVD not only shows us that Brian, Lee and Slim Jim are doing well, but they're still rockin' like it's 1981. It's all good...the vocals, cinematography, Dolby 5.1 Surround, Lee's slappin' bass, Slim Jim's driving kit and of course Brian's howlin' Gretsch. This is one of those DVD's where louder is better. I swear, if I closed my eyes, I'd feel like it's 1987 again and I'm back at one of their shows at One Step Beyond in Santa Clara, CA, USA. Do I smell someone smoking clove?

When the Stray Cats went separate directions years ago, a huge void was created in the rockabilly world, leaving many folks to get their fix through Reverend Horton Heat, DuValls, Hillbilly Hellcats, Speed Devils and similar acts. They're all superb in their own sound, but it's like wanting to go back to your first girlfriend after you've been dating someone new. I like BSO (the Brian Setzer Orchestra), but that was like dating the big sister of your first girlfriend...close, but not exactly what you were looking for. To me, the BSO rockabilly breakout sets with Brian, Mark and Bernie were the highlights of those shows. The 68CBS tour and CD then wet our appetites even more for a Stray Cats reunion. And it all brings us to what we've been waiting for, for a long time. Finally, the Stray Cats on DVD to cure that rockabilly fix.

So what's on the 129 minute DVD? 21 tunes, plus a bonus track - Mystery Train Kept A Rollin', complete with behind the scenes footage. Additional bonus material includes a nice montage of the band performing Stray Cat Strut throughout the years, along with vintage photos. A final bonus track shows an extensive behind the scenes look at the Stray Cats on their recent 2004 European tour, including the London show from which the DVD was recorded, complete with post-concert crowd reaction. There's quite a bit of dialogue from the band, roadies and fans, which adds a nice personal touch. However, be warned: There is a scene where Brian's black Gretsch is "modified" with a BSA emblem, involving the use of a power drill! Not for the faint of heart. A 24 page booklet is also included, which chronographs the bands history.

At the time of this writing, Brian has announced that he may need to slip into early retirement, for reasons mentioned on his website. So if you're a Stray Cats fan, this DVD may be your only fix for a long time. And if you never got to see them live, or are too young to have lived in the day of Gene Vincent or Eddie Cochran, you also may want to park this DVD next to your copy of La Bamba. It's rockabilly at its best!
