Can't-Miss Casting for Wilde Classic

Oscar Wilde was a brilliant satirist, issuing biting but humorous commentary about the times in which he lived. "An Ideal Husband" is one of his best plays, and this version of the tale is perfectly executed. The casting is flawless, with Rupert Everett, Cate Blanchett and Minnie Driver playing their roles with arch perfection. For fans of the cast members, Oscar Wilde, or period pieces, this film will not disappoint.

PCU: Greatest movie ever produced!

When I wake up in the morning, I cannot leave my room until I have completed watching PCU at least once! I made an audio tape of the movie which I listen to on my way to work. I feel that Jeremy Piven's portrayal of Droz is perhaps the single most impressive acting performance in the history of cinematography! Coffee. COFFEE! NOW!!!! END

Chinatown - movie DVD cover picture
A knockout, a masterpiece, one of the greatest, a classic

First of all, it is hard not to just rave about how great this movie is. Discussions of its finer points aside, you are really missing something if you don't go out and see this movie. It is not a martial arts movie. It is a flawless, polished gem of a film- a rare treasure of unequaled technical mastery, unrivaled performances by both Nicholson and Dunaway, and screenwriting excellece of course too.
Chinatown is arguably the greatest movie ever made. But to understand this, and thus to understand why you really should watch it, it is perhaps useful to understand where it fits. Chinatown is certainly not the most "important" film, as it is essentially a rehashing of the film noir genre, but it terms of absolute and unequivocal success as BOTH a work of art and entertainment, Chinatown is without rival. Critics may have written much more about other movies of the period, and certainly for instance "Taxi Driver" is more of a cultural monument, but nothing can touch the staggering richness of this film. It still hits me like a locomotive every time I see it.

Greatest BritCom: Youg Ones Is Funny

What you need to know is that this is one of the most ridiculous and bright telley shows ever created. It is totally absurd and for that reason it is quite hilarious. At times is seems stupid but then it amazes the viewer with bright lines and absolute hilarity. I first encountered "The Young Ones" when it was shown on Comedy Central in the early '90's. I was an early teen then and while I found it funny I think I can relate to it much better now. This boxed set of DVD's is terrific and the best assortment of "The Young Ones" available.

The show is comprised of for young men Vyvyan, Neil Rick and Mike who share an apartment. Vyvyan is a vim and venom punk rocker, Neil is a burnt out hippie, Mike is sort a total lady-killer and Rick is a Communist pseudo intellectual. Naturally these four don't fit well together and each has a different way of handling the insane situations they find themselves in. Almost every scene of every episode is shot in their apartment and in spite of this money saving technique the show is fantastic and though sometimes a little slap sticky.

My favorite character is Rick: his lines are well written and ring so true as he tries to be a smart little Marxist. He is also such a funny character to watch as his blood boils in aggravation with his housemates antics. Vyvyan angers him as he generally finds breaking things to be the solution to any problem. Vyvyan is often the instigator or the exacerbator of the mayhem that transpires. Neil and Mike are also necessary characters though I don't think they are the stars of this show.

You had better go and get this now before something bad happens to you. This really is a great show and is certainly among the best British TV available. If you like Mr. Bean, The Simpsons, Family guy or Malcolm in the Middle this show will certainly appeal to you. This DVD set is the best way to get the show and is well worth the price.

I'm Jack's Review

Ever had the feeling like Neo while seeing the Matrix? Ever feel there's something wrong in the world but can't put it to words? Fight Club tells exactly what is wrong with modern society.
The movie is excellent. You might not like it at first, but after seeing it again changes your mind. Everybody who went to see this movie thought it was about fighting... it's not. Edward Norton is one of the best new actors around.
David Fincher did an excellent job and the music, from the Dust Brothers, fits the mood exactly. You should get this DVD. You get not one, but two discs. The first one containing 4 audio commentaries! The second is the best. The second disc is packed full of stuff about the making of the movie.
Highly recommended!

Freddy vs. Jason (New Line Platinum Series) - movie DVD cover picture
My Opinion....This 'flick'ROCKS

It is fascinating to see how the writers bridged the gap that brought these two horror tyrants together. The storyline is flawless and is 'true' to the prequels of both series. Nevermind Jason X. That was set in the future, so Freddy Vs Jason can be considered a prequel to Jason X. The movie has all the elemnts from both series from Freddy's sadistical (if that's a word) and comical killings to Jason's 'kill-em-all' attitude. So some death scenes were sort of scary and gross and others were just hilarious.I guess the writers did not want to pick sides for a winner, so they left the ending sort of open for us to pick our own winner... which is cool. We love both Freddy and Jason. I've seen so many horrors, I've been desensitized a bit. This is a DVD must-have when its released.

The Two Towers--Another Box Office Hit!!

Ever since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring arrived in theaters in December 2001, there has been an ever-growing obsession with J.R.R. Tolkien that has engulfed millions of people world-wide. Director Peter Jackson, and countless other actors believe without a doubt that The Lord of the Rings trilogy has already made cinematic history. With its epic scenes, well-developed characters, and unmatchable special effects, The Lord of the Rings could very well be as excellent as Star Wars, if not better. Peter Jackson could quite possibly be giving George Lucas and run for his money. In Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the heart-wrenching story of four hobbits and the gripping suspense for the battle of Middle-earth will leave audiences begging for more. Unlike the first movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, the characters of Frodo and Sam are much more developed and intensified in The Two Towers. As Frodo and Sam begin their journey alone, in pursuit of the destruction of the ring, Frodo's deteriorating soul is ultimately revealed to the audience. Since the power of the ring intensifies, Frodo unconsciously becomes more dependent on Sam in order to successfully destroy the ring. The damage the ring has on Frodo's mind and well-being causes the audience to wonder what type of fate lies ahead for Frodo. When Gollum was first introduced to the audience in The Fellowship of the Ring, he remained a mystery as far as who he really was and what his purpose was in the story. As soon as Gollum joins Frodo and Sam in their endeavor, Gollum's severe case of schizophrenia brings his inner turmoil to the audiences' attention. It is also revealed that Gollum's real name is Smeagle and the name of Gollum belongs to his evil alter ego who appears to have full control of Smeagle. Smeagle's battle with Gollum causes the audience to have tremendous pity for him, which alters his persona of a monster to a kind-hearted, suffering soul. In the scene where Gollum engages in a verbal battle with Smeagle, the true spirit of Smeagle is brought to light with an amazing script and an impeccable development of character. A major restoration of hope arrives and perpetuates when Gandalf returns to the story after falling to shadow in The Fellowship of the Ring. The exasperation of excitement and relief heard in the theaters when Gandalf appeared on the screen only solidified this idea. With Gandalf back in the picture, the Battle at Helms Deep is anticipated with victory. Instead of the title Gandalf the Grey in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf's reincarnation promoted him to Gandalf the White, making him much more powerful. Since Gandalf was somehow reincarnated, his fate lies in the unknown as well. While the story continues, the world-wide anticipation for the final movie will only grow in massive proportions. Although The Two Towers answered many questions that arose from The Fellowship of the Ring, it only gave birth to new questions and inquiries that can only be answered with the release of The Return of the King. After witnessing the success of the first two movies, it can only be expected the third movie will indeed earn colossal success. In addition, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is sure to establish its place in box office history. Until December 17, 2003, when The Return of the King is released, the audience will be anxiously awaiting.

out with a bang!

As you have read in previous reviews, people who hate anime love this show. Some of my friends who dislike anime have loved this show. There is a reason for this. Cowboy Bebop is one of the greatest shows of all time. This series has everything you could want. Top-notch animation and visuals, excellent characters, a great storyline, and well written dialogue. The character designs are truly excellent. The characters are extremely likeable and original. Spike is an excellent main character with a cool attitude. Also, Spike's main enemy, Vicious, is one of the, if the not the, coolest bad guys out of any show. Also, Cowboy Bebop has does not exhibit the problems shown by a lot of anime. The series stays serious, with humor throughout. The English dub is superb, quite possibly better than the original version. The fight scenes are done extremely well with fluidity. There is not much I can say that is negative about this series. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys action and humor, even if they are not in to anime. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Just a word of warning. The "Limited Edition" Box Set listed on this site is actually the 3-disc bootleg version. The original box set has six DVDs with a soundtrack included. Only aobut 10,000 of this box set were produced, making it extremely pricey and hard to find. I was lucky enough to obtain a copy a year or two ago. Do not even waste your time with the bootleg version, as it does the series no justice whatsoever. Your best bet is to just buy the DVDs seperately or buy the 6 DVD set Amazon is offering. --Later
