A classic.

This is truly a great movie...if only it were more available, or even better, on DVD! Alec Guinness is, of course, a great actor, but the key to this story is the gorgeous use of symbolism both within the story and the visual presentation. The movie touches on labor vs. management, man vs. machine, capitalism vs. socialism...and a whole host of classic themes. The images of Alec Guinness in his perfect white suit, surrounded by angry mobs, in dirty and industrial England are gorgeously portrayed and make this one of my all time favorite films.

One of the funniest movies I've seen!

This was one of the most clever and funny movies I have seen in a LONG time! My stomache hurt for a week after seeing this movie from laughing so hard! Trey Parker and Matt Stone were hilarious. The songs in it were great! Trey Parker wrote all of them, each one with a different humorous twist to it. This is an awesome movie and I would recommend it to anyone. I've seen this movie dozens of times and it gets better and better each time I watch it. If you like strange, twisted humor, this is for you!!

Get From The BBC - NO ITV (And there is NONE missing)!

I would disagree with whoever wrote the review giving only one star. Mr Bean was NEVER produced, released or screened by the BBC - but by ITV. ITV shows commercials and so to allow space for these each episode shown is 25 minutes!
I was born an raised in Britain and watched Mr Bean first hand every time they were released. There is NO missing footage and I feel that people should check their facts before bad-mouthing establishments like A&E.
This collection is great - including the documentary and Is well worth the money!

Rosemary's Baby - movie DVD cover picture
A potent brew of scary and funny

You have to pity Rosemary Woodhouse. There's not a single character in "Rosemary's Baby" who takes Rosemary seriously. Her concerns -- which start off trivial, and wind up concerning the future of mankind -- are routinely brushed off by those around her, usually with a non-sequitur or a limp joke. She's abused and misused, casually and cruelly, and yet she rarely ceases to be a strong individual
"Rosemary's Baby" takes time to set the scenario -- it takes about a hour for Rosemary to first become pregnant -- yet there's not a single scene in the movie that's poorly written or acted. Even the minor players -- partcularly Charles Grodin as a young obstetrician -- shine through. The second half of the movie is nearly perfect, as the months pass with frightening speed, and as Rosemary discovers just what's going on.
"Rosemary's Baby" is deft, funny, and scary, and it speaks volumes that Rosemary uses a Scrabble set to help piece together the mystery. The chills are genuine, the humor is casual and offhanded but effective (especially whenever John Cassevetes is on the screen), and the final scene is riveting. Rosemary Woodhouse has been ignored, misled, and cheated for over two hours, yet by the end of the film she's still in control of her environment, and arguably in a position to redeem her baby. Many horror movies seek to cop out in the final scene, but thanks to the superior production here, we wind up with one of the most memorable finales in the genre or, indeed, anywhere.
A must-buy, for both the casual horror buff and the film student. And for fans of Charles Grodin, of course.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - movie DVD cover picture
Four stars for the movie and 6 stars for the DVD

Wow, Criterion really outdid themselves on this DVD.
While I really enjoy the movie, especially Johnny Depp's incredible performance of Hunter S. Thompson (watch the extras on the DVD to see how closely Depp imitated him), I have always become somewhat bored near the end of it. Maybe the constant drugged out characters just lose their initial appeal, maybe the lack of any plot or storyline forces you to expect some sort of climactic point which never arrives.
Anyway, I like the movie, but loved the DVD. How can you not appreciate a 50 minute BBC documentary from the 1970's featuring Thompson and Ralph Steadman. There is a reading featuring Jim Jarmusch as Raoul Duke. My favorite part though, is the commentary (one of 3 total) featuring Hunter S. Thompson himself. He is certifiably nuts. He lets loose with a couple of crazy screeches during the commentary.
Good movie, Great DVD, Great artwork on the box.
Highly recommended!

The Eagles soar LIVE in DTS Sound!!!! AWESOME concert!!!!

This reunion concert of The Eagles is a memorable event, from 1994, when the guys decided to get back together after many years apart. The opening song has a brilliant rearrangement in a deelectricfied set....Hotel California! The sound of the guitars' strings being plucked are crystal clear, in the incomparable DTS format, and after the synchronized guitar intro - Don Henley's voice hits his "On that dark desert highway...." notes superbly, with the center speaker solely devoted to him on this track! An incredible version of this classic song - which, of course, received favorable airplay on the radio! My favorite song: I Can't Tell You Why, has bassist Timothy B. Schmidt singing his lead vocals, dead on, to the 1979 studio recording....Glen Frey soothes the listener with his keyboard playing, on this one. Overall, this is The Eagles best concert recording, ever! I own the first 1999 DVD release of Hell Freezes Over, which happened to have the DTS audio! The sound on this disc is phenomenal....you'll have to hear it to believe it! I treasure this DVD of mine; I know you will too! Take It Easy!
