The most gorgeous man to walk the earth. These two have unmatched screen chemistry. One of the handful of movies that withstand the test of time. Vivian Leigh is also amazing.

Best Special DVD Ever

This is the version of the movie that should have been released instead of the theatrical version. The gifts from Lothlorien, the ring falling from Isildur's hand the mithril coat are valuable setups to events in this movie. It also explains the scene from "The Two Towers" where the hobbits can hide under the cloak from Lothlorien.

This movie was pretty good, kinda childish at times, but what do you expect? Trenton Knight was enjoyable as the young son, Josh. But Invisible Mom #2 was an absolute bomb; it was about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Even tho I'm a fan of Justin Berfield, even he couldn't save it from mediocrity.

A 100% kick-ass guy movie!

When it comes to reviewing movies like Gone in 60 Seconds, the critics are just plain stupid. You can't rate this film on Grammy Categories. This is a flick about cars. Sexy, fast, adrenaline pumping, loud, oh-my-god-it's-in-digital-surround-sound cars. There's nothing like hearing a Supercharged-Nitrous-pumping 1967 Shelby GT 500 Mustang in Digital Surround. I don't care what the critics gave this movie. With a kick-ass cast and supporting stars with names of Porsche, Lamborghini, BMW, Hemi Cuda and Ferrari just to name a few; you can't go wrong. And there was actually a plot. You have to remember this is a 100% guy movie. When I stepped out of the theatre I heard booster wanna-be's revving up their ladies all over the parking lot. That's what this movie is about. If you actually try to rate this movie, you'll be dissapointed. But if you just sit back, relax, and picture yourself in the driver's seat, you'll absolutely love it. I'd recommend it to every guy who has ever exceeded the speed limit. (and come on, how can you give a movie with Angelina Jolie in it a bad rating...)

Peeping Tom - Criterion Collection - movie DVD cover picture

Michael Powell's ("THE RED SHOES") career was practically destroyed when this film bowed in 1960. Critics savaged both him and the film. They weren't ready for his view of voyuerism and the cinema. The film itself is a fine and daring piece of work detailing the obsession and madness of a young photographer who was horrendously traumatized as a child by his equally obsessed father. Mark (Karl Boehm) murders women with the tripod of his camera as he films their faces as they are dying. He then views the footage in private for self gratification. He's literally making his own "pornography". Whew. Not an easy subject matter for 1960! But what the film says to me is that we are ALL voyeurs because we watch cinema for different reasons. Some are sicker than others. This movie is a heavy statement by a renowned filmmaker who literally put his career on the line to make it. He lost. But today, the film survives as a testament to Powell's viewpoint and ideas. And we are the richer for it. "Peeping Tom" is still not for every taste primarily because I don't feel very many people can understand what is being said by the movie. For those who do get it , it is a rare treat indeed. A MUST for cinephiles.

Fantastically Deviant

For fans of horror, slasher or even b-movies, this is your new favorite movie. The storyline is great, but the acting is what sets this film apart. The lead is played perfectly by Christian Bale. This is one of the great over-the-top performances in the history of cinema. Check it out and see for yourself.

As far as being disturbing, this film will bring the worst out in you. You will find yourself laughing at situations that should inspire disgust. This is no comedy, however. The gore and violence is second to none. This is not for anyone with a weak stomach.

If you have the ability to release your inhibitions for a couple of hours, this film with entertain you in a way you have never considered before. If not, this is not your cup of tea.

Esther - movie DVD cover picture
a masterpiece first-time fiction feature

ESTHER takes the biblical story of the book of ESTHER and places it in the ruins of former Arab and Middle-Eastern Jew area of Haifa, Wadi Salib, which was destroyed as a result of a riot in the 50's.
Though the story of the film takes place in the ancient Persian empire and its capital Susa, where Jews lived in exile, and the characters are dressed in epic-like ancient costumes, the backgrounds are ruins, within which the contemporary rearlity keeps interfering as sounds (cars, sirens, airplanes, etc) as well as visually.
Through this narrative strategy, the film itself makes comments on its story, and open up the metaphorical and universal reading of it. The book of Esther concerns the oppression of the Jews living in exile, so the Jews are the victims who somehow manage to survive. However, already the biblical story ends with the oppressed Jews becoming oppressors themselves. And the film ESTHER totally opens up this element of the story; exile, being oppressed and suffering are not monopolized by Jews.
Teaming with master cinematographger Henri Alekan, first-time fictional feature director Amos Gitai weaves out a stunningly righ series of visual feast. The rich use of colors and the strong sun lights of Haifa turn this fairy-tale-like story into high-contrasted visuals. Alekan's bold use of colored lights, as well as the stunning costumes based on Persian minuatures color codes already create a strong contrast with the simple, monochromatic ruin landscape. And the amazing 9 minutes tracking shot at the end of the film subvert and opens up what we thought the film was about.
It is a film that, most of all, makes you think. So not for the audience who were looking for a biblical epic a la Cecil B. Demille. But those who are open-minded enough and sensitive enough will find a rich visual pleasure in this masterpiece, and will also start thinking about power, oppression, conflicts et all from a different perspective than what we are used to see on, let's say CNN.

A glimpse of reality, told with passion and elegance

With some movies the modest ambition is to entertain. Others seek to expose and enlighten. It is the latter category into which "Blue Citrus Hearts" fits -- a simple film about life in America told with passion and elegance.

Sam and Julian are two boys who, within the high school caste system, fall somewhere between the nerds and the losers. Sam has an abusive father and a cold-hearted mother; Julian's parent is a single mom who nonetheless provides him with an abundance of love. Both have girlfriends and neither has a job. Sam writes in a journal he will not let anyone see and hopes to take guitar lessons. Julian haunts coffee shops and daydreams.

Yet both have come to realize something is missing from their lives, and this sense of loss is diminished only when they are together. Will either have the courage to admit their love for one another, or the strength to overcome the consequences of that love in a disapproving world?

The genius of "Blue Citrus Hearts" is that the filmmakers used every aspect of the storytelling to support the gritty and unpolished nature of the story itself. The film was shot with a digital camera using ambient lighting. The sound is choppy and harsh. Camera angles and shots lack the slick sophistication of a Hollywood production. The script speaks in a language we all know and speak ourselves. Acting is dead-on.

It is a skillful intersection of cinema verite and 21st century technology.

"Blue Citrus Hearts" makes another important statement, too -- that in 2005 it is still not OK to be gay. It may be fashionable to accept and even embrace homosexuality in television and movies, but in the day-to-day grind of modern American life, gay men and women are still shunned, still legislated against and still murdered because of their sexual orientation. The misery Sam and Julian experience in coming to terms with their sexuality brings this struggle into the blessed light of day where it can be revealed for what it is: a pox on compassion.

"Blue Citrus Hearts" tells a story that is being lived by millions of loving and decent people in America. I hope it will say to the parents, neighbors and co-workers of gay men and women everywhere that we are human beings who seek only one thing from this all-too brief life: happiness.

When I watched "Blue Citrus Hearts," I cried.
