Buy this Movie!

Want to see one of the best fight scenes ever? Then buy this DVD and watch the rooftop fight scene! Absolutely beautiful to watch. The choreography is amazing. The rest of the movie is pretty darn good too. You'll gasp as Jackie slides down the side of a building and your jaw will drop when you see him escape from the Internal Security team. Great action, great fights, great stunts, and great chase scenes. One of my top five Jackie Chan picks!

The Vietnam War - in summary!

Quite simply this film says "the Vietnam war was totally mad and bad".
We travel with some soldiers doing there everyday job (killing), while they try to live like Americans in war zone gone totally mad.
Coppola (director) constructs a film which grips you from the opening sequence and takes you through a maze of amazing, blundered, spectacular war scenes that were this brutal conflicts signature.
An intense performance by Sheen gives us our path through this maze of a film. He has been given a mission to locate and 'terminate' (assasinate), a renegade American soldier, Col Kurtz (Marlon Brando). There is much to take in (indeed it is a film which may be watched several times without revealing all) and we emerge from it confused, saddened but definitely impressed with the horror that was the apocalypse that shadowed Vietnam.

These stars shine bright

Emily Watson and Rachel Griffiths deliver stellar performances in this factual account of the life of a disturbed artist and the sister that supported her from the wings. This is a movie that teaches us a lesson in perception. You will walk in the shoes of both characters and leave the movie feeling that you knew them both. One of the best movies of 1998.

The film that made me a Shakespeare fan

Before she made us study "Romeo and Juliet" in High School, my English teacher had the wisdom to show us this version of Romeo and Juliet. I had always thought that Shakespeare was for wimps. Once I watched the initial brawling scene on the TV screen, I was hooked. It is one of my favorite films of all time.

Wowee! Sexy ladies and sophisticated humor!

Sex and the City is a great television series. The show's wit, glamour and humor is incredible. I have been watching the show since its very beginning, and I am very happy that I finally have The Complete First Season.
Sarah Jessica Parker is outstanding in her role of Carrie; she's a hilarious narrator. I love Kim Cattrall's portrayal of Samantha; she's, without a doubt, the show's scene stealer. I also enjoy Miranda's (Cynthia Nixon) sarcastic humor. Kristin Davis is great as Charlotte -- the romantic one of the three. You know, I think I speak for everyone when I say that Chris North's portrayal of Mr. Big is superb. North and Parker have great chemistry.
I love this DVD collection, and my only hope is that there will be a Complete Second Season out soon! A must-have!

A Reviewer that is Phantom & Robert Englund crazy

I really enjoyed the movie. Robert Englund really shows what he is made of in this. He really brings out the Phantom's powerful obession for Christine. And how he is an aboslute child of Satan. He is determined to win Christine's love, Even if he must kill to give Christine the best. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

Superb Film.....

...as is the chemistry between leads Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn who make an extremly convincing couple in this film which is sympathetically inclined to some cases of adultery.
Two guests at a travel inn, the nuerotic and somewhat manic George and the clever, clear-headed Doris, both married and parents, meet and fall instantly in love. After that night, they end up spending the whole week-end together and eventually decide to meet up there every year.
Although their relationship is not conducted in the ideal situation, they are certainly likeable and interesting as both individuals and a couple and that's thanks to good writing, acting and direction.
As they grow over the years and tackle the unpredictability of life head-on the film progresses at a nice, even pace and is an utter joy to watch. Even the cliche scene where Doris is pregnant can be forgiven.
Having started as a stage play I only became acquainted with this flick via the television but I have seen the sequal performed at the theatre and that is a joy as well. And, just in case you were wondering, the write of this play says he writes from imagination. I believe him, thousands wouldn't......
Very good indeed.

Jumanji - movie DVD cover picture
The uses of enchantment

"Jumanji" is one show that Robin Williams doesn't steal from the other characters. He carries his own weight, but so do the rest of the cast. Not a weak character in this bunch.
The writing is creative, imaginative and compelling. The effects range from great (stampede, vines) to weak (spiders, monkey faces), but they don't get in the way of an engaging, fast-paced, even provocative movie.
The psychology may seem pop Freudian to some, but it serves the overall illusion created by the movie. I suspect that on a psychological level, "Jumanji" functions to let kids deal with the anger and estrangement they feel with their fathers (a la Bruno Bettelheim's "The Uses of Enchantment").
Carl, the African American shoe designer/police officer, provides some of the funniest material; unfortunately it smacks of an earlier cinema tradition in which the black faces were always the victims of gags that exploited their supposed fears or ignorance.
Over all, though, my daughter (7) and son (4) find it compelling and exciting -- and my wife and I find ourselves watching it again with them every time they put it in.

Trigun Vol. 3 - Wolfwood - movie DVD cover picture
Blown away. ...Giggle.

This has to be my favorite of the five volumes of Trigun I've seen so far. While less serious than some of the later episodes, Murder Machine and Quick Draw have somehow become my favorite episodes of the series.
Volume 3 --predictably, considering what it's titled-- introduces the character of Nicholas D. Wolfwood, a mysterious chain-smokin', gun-totin', funny as all get-out... priest. The interaction between him and our hero Vash is priceless -- this volume had me giggling like mad more times than I can count. At times, my mother gave me funny looks and asked if I was all right. (I then made her watch it. And she fell in love, too.) The duality often played on in this volume makes for some very interesting conjectures.
The volume also gives us the first bits of information about Vash's hidden past -- altho it raises more questions than it gives answers. As a result, it only draws you deeper into the story.
Over-all, volume 3 is exceptional. It enhances the story of Trigun, giving us more character depth and development -- and of course, Nicholas D. Wolfwood.
