What A Delightful Masterpiece to Own!

This is an awesome DVD set. It has two of my favorite movies, Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom. Moulin RougeI had no desire to watch this movie as I do not enjoy musicals. I usually get embarrassed for the characters who break into song, but with this movie I was amazed. The acting of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor (what a hottie!) was superb. I was amazed a what good voices they had. I was mesmerized from the very beginning. The songs are just beautiful. Listening to Ewan McGregor's woefull voice tell the tale of his beloved Satine was heartbreaking. I was sucked into the vortex of Moulin Rouge. I cannot understand how anyone who watched this movie did not fall in love with it and the characters. Granted the main character is a courtesan, but who cares? She falls in love with the penniless writer and true love prevails, she understands what 'true love'is. From the very beginning we know that their love was doomed, but we still rooted for them, for love is 'like oxygen' and we wanted them to be happy.
All in all, this was an amazing movie. I would suggest that you watch it before believing the hype. Amazing movie, I loved it!!
Strictly BallroomI must admit, it took me approximately 20 minutes to actually get into this movie. I so wanted to shut if off, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to give it more time. I am extremely happy that I did.
While this is not a 'masterpiece' as 'Moulin Rouge', it is definately VERY good. The acting was stupendous. The actors made me feel that the story was very real. In a very 'slight' way, I was reminicant of 'Dirty Dancing'.
Scott is this Awesome ballroom dancer who does not adhere to 'Strictly Ballroom' rules. He loses a major competition due to his unorthodox dance moves. His overly dramatic dance partner dumps him right before another major competition, and poor Scott is left partnerless. In appears an extremely 'ugly duckling' who wants to dance with him. What happens next is ..... well, I guess you should watch it to know the rest.
Overall this was a delightfully lighthearted movie with some poignant scenes that will leave you teary eyed. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Romeo & JulietThis was a very good movie. Most everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet and this is a good adaption with a funky twist. This was not one of my favorite movies in the set, but as stories go, this was very unique.
Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio were outstanding as the star crossed lovers in this newly updated tale of love and woe. They are both fairly young and that makes the story all the more heartbreaking. If you are looking for an old classic with an unusual twist, then this movie is for you.
All in all, this 4 DVD set is Awesome. There is a 4th DVD with special inside information and unique interviews. If you like these movies than this is a must buy. I recommend it greatly.

all of the hamtaro merchandise are great!

i have a lot of hamtaro merchandise and i find them all to be 5 stars. they're sweet and funny and worth every dollar. for the people who didn't like it, maybe they just lack a sense of humor and are too jaded by life. furthermore, maybe it would have helped if they either knew more about hamsters (at least the spelling of it) or actually realized they were not MICE.

North Beach - movie DVD cover picture

I saw this at the San Francisco Film Festival a while back. A great story about the lifestyle of North Beach with a humorous story. The story takes place the morning after the protagonist cheats on his girlfriend. The protagonist, after doing his daily rounds of visiting local cafes, etc. quickly realizes that there is no such thing as a secret in North Beach. The sound on the DVD is great and the movie has a kick ass soundtrack with SF local bands like the Uninvited and Vinyl.

Escape from L.A. - movie DVD cover picture
this is an action packed movie

Having seen the original ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, I was hoping for a pretty good action adventure film in ESCAPE FROM L.A. What I got was a big disappointed. Basically, ESCAPE FROM L.A. is a mediocre copy of the first movie. The film contains a strain of dark comedy built around a lot of jokes, but I didn't find many of them funny (e.g. the whole "I thought you were taller" thing). Russell is good as Snake and Steve Buscimi and Bruce Campbell have some nice roles as supporting players. The sfx aren't too good for a 1996 picture--many of the CGI sequences are so bad they look like the effects of old with the moving screen in the background of the action. The movie also has a very negative view of Christianity and I found that to be somewhat offensive. Overall, ESCAPE FROM L.A. is an okay movie that could have been a lot better; e.g. there could have been a lot more fighting/action scenes. I think they should have made ESCAPE FROM CLEVELAND instead.

Great Movie!!!

Well let me first say I have watched this possibly 50 times. But that was on VHS. Since the VHS copy I have was looking really bad I decieded to get the DVD copy. It looks fantastic. One thing I found a little strange though...they re-did the voices. It's almost a different movie with the new soundtrack. The conversations they have are completely different. Granted the new soundtrack makes more sense then the original, I still had a little trouble with it. And there was a few shots that were re-edited. So the story went a little differnt. I would have liked if they included the other track. But otherwise a great movie. Lots of action with alot of comedy. Which is why I love to watch it so much.

Cowboy Bebop - The Movie - movie DVD cover picture
Great movie that compliments a great series.

Cowboy Bebop is the saga of a group of bounty hunters and their lives aboard the Bebop. Spike is the tough, yet laidback main character. His partner is Spike, a former ISSP officer. The two formed a partnership aboard the Bebop. Next came Ein the Welsh Corgi data dog, then Faye Valentine, then Ed the teenage hacker. These characters make up the crew of the Bebop, the best group of bounty hunters in the universe although luck never really is on their side.
So with the background info out of the way, this movie takes place right around episode 24 in the series.(SPOILER**) It begins with Faye going after what should have been a routine bounty pickup, but while out she witnesses a massive explosion. Many people miles away begin to get sick for some strange reason that may be linked to the explosion and a man that Faye saw at the scene of the explosion. What ensues is an action packed movie dealing with the threat of terrorism. Spike and the crew discover that they are dealing with a man named Vincent Volaju that was presumed to have died in a war. But he is alive and he has a plan to take out the human race by the use of nano-bots that can't be seen by the human eye. Can the Bebop crew stop Vincent and save Mars from destruction? Watch to see how this one ends, I wont say.
Overall I love this movie. Maybe I am slightly biased because I am a huge fan of the series. In anime nothing is better than Bebop, at least in my mind. This movie perfectly compliments the series, unlike most movies that take more of your money. For any fan of Bebop you have to own this along with the series. Honestly I think CBTM is as good as any movie of any kind that I have seen in the last few years. It has a believable plot, with the serious topic of terrorism which we now deal with in our world every day. The movie is just under 2 hours I believe, but it never drags. The whole storyline flows smoothly from beginning to end and I never became bored the longer the movie went on. So let us sum this up: great cast of characters, lots of action (specifically the magnificent fight scenes between Vincent and Spike), wonderful animation and lastly it is just plain cool. And I mean everything about it. You can usually find it for a not-too-bad price. There are some cool extras included, but it isnt "loaded" like you would think special edition would be. This is a great movie bottom-line, with a great but complex theme, and features the coolest character in anime, Spike Spiegel. If you have never watched the series that is okay, you will still catch on to the storyline pretty quick. Not much backstory is required to understand what is going on. And if you are not into anime at all, I think this is a movie that can even be enjoyed by you, it is just that good. So check it out if this sounds like your thing. But beware, you may want to buy the whole tv series after seeing this if you don't already have it, because it will leave you wanting more.

Lord of the Flies - movie DVD cover picture

lord of the flies is one of the best books ever written if not the best. The movie strangly is just as good as the book, no better no worse. Its an amazing tale of a bunch of little boys who get stranded on an island and baby THIS AINT GILIGANS ISLAND. They start out trying to act like their parents would until a plane comes to take them home but things go on for longer than they thought it would and they begin to fight and after a while tribal instincts take over and they get violent. They have a total complete loss of innocence. As a matter of fact they have a total loss of civilization (except for one or two characters, who are just trying to keep from getting killed and get home). Kids stranded on Island, kids miss home, kids forget home, kids go insane... Its one of those movies that at the end you are left wondering how the children would ever be able to live outside of mental institution walls again and you pretty much gather that the majority will be put in maximum security mental hospitals shortly after coming home because they had totally lost it and you wonder how it is broken to the parents thats children were savagly murdered by their schoolmates. Its mind trippy. It will stick with you for the rest of your life...

Remember The Titans - A class of it's own

This is, without a doubt, the most touching drama of not only life, but also life in football ever created for the big screen. The story touches all points of human emotion, and explores any "race" issues head on. I was pleased to see that the story was based in fact, and that the members of this team held such high regard for each other in such turbulent times. I was truly touched. ... This title is a "classic" worthy of any collector's library. ... I would say that the price is worth it! Buy this video, show it to your children. Learn from it, and grow as people! ...

great show BUT!!!!

I credited the limmted edition, at 5 stars, but to cut it short, You Cher MADONNA hater fans need to really back of Madonna. I like Cher, I stated once and I will state again Madonna put the (D) IN DIVA, No offense to cher or her die hard fans, but face it Madonna is just bigger than Cher. Its took 40 years with long gaps for cher to be where she at (NOW)since 1998. Since then she's been more popular than ever before. Madonna since 1983 has remained huge with out a dout. WHAT..
