This is a cute and funny movie! I loved watching it and didn't even notice it was close to 2 hours... thankfully because I didn't want it to end! This inspired me more to study abroad...
There's also a sequel for those of you who are interested (I don't think it's in theaters in Europe yet).. it's called Les Poup?es russes.

Must have for Megafans!!

The Megaman A Hero is Born DVD is a wonderful 13 episode collection of the blue bomber's first episodes. The animation in the first episodes are superb, although not quite Anime. However, in some cases, that's probably a good thing. This Megaman is somewhat different from the game's interpretation, but is actually surprisingly faithful. It's not a very deep cartoon, but it's action packed and just a joy to watch. And thanks to the usage of robots, it's very family friendly. Pick this one up as soon as possible!

Golly! This is a delightful...

heapin' helpin' of hillbilly hilarity. Moonshine, incest, bestiality, it's all here! The two fine young fillies in the bathtub together in Sassy Sue is more than worth the price of this DVD! Wooh darlin'! Stereotypical? Yes. Ridiculous? Yes. I wish all the films that are featured in the trailers were available. Take a swig o' 'shine, grab yer cuzzin, and enjoy!

Harmless Feelgood Factor

I dont know about everyone else, but i go to theaters to be entertained. I found this film entertaining. So shoot me. I know everyone is saying, "its no pretty woman", but lets be honest, J-Lo isnt exactely Julia Roberts anyway, so why compare apples and oranges. Mostly i was just moved by this movie because i went into the theater in a bad mood from a rough day, and left the theater with a smile on my face. If that wasnt worth my 9 dollars, then what is? i recommend this for anyone who wants just a nice, feel-good love story, without the complications of sitting through a film to see good acting or well thought out plots.

Poirot Set 9 - movie DVD cover picture
3 strong entries in the almost complete POIROT series

Having sung the praises of Sets 1-8 of the Acorn Media releases of <Poirot>, I can find little to add about the general excellence of this series, which offers up the shorter episodes on VHS and the longer ones on VHS and DVD formats. With 3 of the projected 12 sets to go for the shorter entries, Set 9 offers up a trio of fairly strong tales.
"Dead Man's Mirror" concerns a ruthless millionaire who outbids Poirot on a mirror at an auction and then dangles the item as bait for the detective to investigate a case of fraud. There is much ado about inheritances, a second (unsigned) will, possible murderers, dinner gongs, and shots behind locked doors. And if the ending is far fetched, who cares? This one needs total concentration.
"Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan" is lighthearted and contains a wonderful spoof on the mystery plays popular in Christie's own time. You will enjoy not only the usual good characterizations by the supporting cast but also the very imaginative camera shots inside a chest of drawers.
"The Case of the Clapham Cook" hangs on a hoax that is a bit overly complicated, since the perpetrator could have accomplished his aims in a far less roundabout way; but then there would have been no plot. The use of disguises, fine in the original stories, often does not work on video, because it is too easy to spot the face behind the beard.
All in all, superior viewing for an evening.

Outstanding!!

I'm amazed this movie didn't make it to the big screen, it deserves top billing! Beyond the exceptional Zen, sci-fi, martial arts moves, and stunning performance by gorgeous Christian Bale, this movie has an intense message, "Uniformity at the expense of one's emotions, makes one lose what it is to be human." On many levels, this movie reminded me of Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451", Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron", Orwell's "1984", and Huxley's "A Brave New World".This movie portrays the future as a cold, sterile, charred place, where everyone conforms to one mind, one order; under the rule of the one they call "Father". War has been vanquished but at the cost of human emotions. All emotions are outlawed, and all feelings are controlled by a drug known as Prozium. In a city called Libria, most likely the central nexus of the "one world" lives an elite force called the "Grammaton Cleric" whose sole task is to eradicate all human emotion and anything or anyone that provokes it. Those who illegally feel are called Sense-phants and they or anyone associated with them are quickly annihilated. But the state has something beyond underground rebels to worry about. For its greatest enemy has awakened, John Preston, the highest of the elite clerics, has begun to feel.

Splendid and Beautiful

This film is moving beyond imagination.Gael Garcia Bernal's portrayal of Ernesto Guevara is just magnificent. The actors were just beautiful and each one fitting in their respective roles. The landscaping was phenomenal and just beyond my wildest imagination. But most of all, what the film is trully about is a long journey of Ernesto Guevara and his best friend Alberto Granado travelling throughout most of South America. There, you get to see Ernesto Guevara whose spirit is nearly superhuman, very polite, empathetic, wise and towards the end you get to the transition from Ernesto Guevara to Ernesto "Che" Guevara.Throughout the way, both men come across many people, some of which shape their personal and professional lives and it's most obvious in Guevara. This film is nearly capable of changing life perspectives or to give you a perspective on life. You see the suffering of nations,a suffering of people, the suffering of both young men struggling to survive and find many means to survive. This film throws at you wisdom of men, sadness but plenty of happiness and paves the way for Guevara's future political struggle. It's beautiful.

Blue Gender Box Set - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best I have ever seen!

When Blue Gender first aired on Adult Swim, I really got into it but I never saw the whole thing. Just from what I did see I felt justified in buying the box set and I knew I wouldn't regret it. After viewing all 26 episodes, I can go far as to say this is the best anime series I have ever seen with the exception of Cowboy Bebop. Trust me though, Blue Gender is a very close second.
Yuji Kaido, the main character, is diagnosed with an incurable disease so he becomes a "sleeper", and the plan is to wake him when mankind finds a cure. After he has been asleep for much longer than he was told, he is awakened to find out the world he once knew has become his worst nightmare. The Earth has been invaded by giant insects known as the "Blue". The blue have wiped out most of the Earth's population and those who remained left to a space station called Second Earth. It is a recovery team from Second Earth that awakens Yuji, and the team is there with the mission of bringing back as many sleepers from Earth as possible. In fact it is Marlene Angel that wakes Yuji, and the two soon have to work together if they are going to make it out alive.
This is a series filled with emotion, strong violence, and nudity. Some may opt to pass on this series due to these themes, but I can't recommend seeing this enough. Seeing Yuji's nightmare as he awakens on Earth is incredible, as is his transformation into the fighter he becomes. There are twists in the storyline at every turn, and the action is nonstop. I never felt like the plot was dragging, as every episode left me wanting to see more. It is just that incredible. The animation is pretty good and works for this series. I especially like the design of the different kinds of Blue, which add so much to the effect of the action. And the best bug comes in the end, but youll have to see what I mean. Another thing that makes this a great series are the characters, who have so much personality. They are realistic people in a war against a species that has invaded their Earth. So by now you have the basic idea behind Blue Gender, and there are too many great plot twists for me to say anymore about that.
There is a certain reviewer about 3 down from me who claims this anime has a weak story, bad animation and was a total waste of money. I have to ask: what Blue Gender did you watch? I mean I can understand that this might not be a title for everyone, but to say it was a complete waste of 536 minutes with absolutely no good? I have to disagree about the main character Yuji, who is annoying when he first wakes up, but as he realixes what he must do to take back his Earth his personality becomes more complex. But anybody who hasnt seen this, at least rent it first before you buy reviews that tell you that this series is total crap.
Packaging for this set is superb, with a great looking art box to hold all 8 volumes of the series. It is a high price for the whole set, although you can buy the volumes individually for about $20 each. It is definaely cheaper in the long run to buy the box set, and if you look in the right places you can find it for way less than the $120 retail price ( I bought mine for $70 new). As for extras, each volume contains some art galleries, character bios, and trailers for other anime releases. Nothing groundbreaking, but good. All volumes contain the Japanese (for the purists that like the original dialogue) and English tracks with Dts, so if you have a nice system crank it up when you are watching this. If you dont like too much violence you may want to pass this one up. Otherwise, I hope I have persuaded you to at least see this series for yourself and hopefully you will be amazed like I am with what you see.

The Best Years of Our Lives - movie DVD cover picture
One of the six greatest WWII films of all time

Okay, so you've seen "Saving Private Ryan," now it's time to see the film that should follow it. Light years ahead of such similiar films as "Coming Home," and "The Deerhunter," this is the film that took the acadamy award for best picture away from "It's A Wonderful Life," and would still do so today. An incredable cast gives the performances of their lives, fully depicing the feelings and problems faced by America's returning WWII veterans. Watch this, along with "Twelve O'Clock High," "The Longest Day," "Das Boot," "Saving Private Ryan," and "Schindler's List," and you've seen the best depictions of WWII that cinema has yet produced. If you have time throw in the BBC miniseries "Piece of Cake," if you can find it. And bring a some keenex.
