Beware of the terrible Tropopkin

I enjoyed watching this movie when it first came on the Disney Channel and I still enjoy watching it today. Alan Thicke gives a great performance as Todd's uptight father, a man who is so grounded in reality he doesn't even know what it means to use his imagination. Robin Riker is fabulous as the seductive and evil Denise Gore, who in reality of course is a monster. It was nice seeing Corey Feldman in this movie, who is so hilarious as Phlegm, the rock musician, head banging freak, and Amy Dolenz is equally good as Wendy, Phlegm's girlfriend and Todd's object of affection. I thought that the makeup and the special effects in this movie were actually quite good, the acting was very believable and there were some very funny moments in it. Also look for other great performances by John Astin as the priest and George Gaynes as Todd's grandfather. A wonderful movie, one that the whole family should watch.

O Frabjous day!

As someone else here noted, a Rumpole fan needs no urging to buy this set. For the uninitiated, however, be aware this may well be an acquired taste -- all the best things in life are.
Here's a litmus test: see if you find this story amusing. A judge had before him an elderly con who's been convicted so many times they are on a first name basis. He sentences him to 20 years and the man looks up and says "But, your honor, I'm a very old man and don't have too many years left. I don't know that I can do 20 years." "Well," says the judge, "you just do as much as you can."
That's one of the stories that Rumpole loves to tell, and it's typical of the kinds of scenerios this barrister finds himself facing. One of the best things about having these episodes on DVD is you can quickly skip back and reply scenes -- every single reviewing will reward you with new treats.
Leo played a part written especially for him, and it's almost impossible to tell where he leaves off and Rumpole begins. The Rumpole series has never been collected in this organized a fashion before (previous releases came in a bewildering array of assorted sets that mixed years willy-nilly) and this is a perfect place to get aquainted with the most erudite and witty barrister the other side of the Big Pond. Nothing can replace Mr. McKern, but this set at least preserves his best performances for all time.

The Best Movie Ever Made

This is one of those movies that leaves you breathless. Al Pacino is amazing, from the comedy, to the romance, to the exhilaration..where do I begin? Al Pacino asking a beautiful woman to tango, he is blind, she doesnt notice....and the tango, the most amazing peice of music ever made. I may be in love with this movie, but I don't think anyone in this world could not like this movie. It fills your heart. Al Pacino, you are the greatest.

simply the best!!!!

This is without a doubt, the greatest kung fu movie ever! The action is fantastic, and the training sequences are long and quite inventive. This movie has a great cast of likeable heroes, and impressive villains that all fight like kung fu superheroes. The master is the greatest character in movie history, and is not someone you would want to mess with. This is one of the first kung fu flicks i saw, and it still is my favorite. Everyone needs to see this movie at least once, so dont let the dull box discourage you, pick up this lost gem today!!!!....END

Amelie - movie DVD cover picture

There are two French movies that I consider must-see: The Grand Illusion and Amelie. Amelie is funny, sad, happy, romantic, mysterious, strange, absurd, sexy, cute, and just fun. Brief synopsis: Innocent Amelie is trying to find the mystery of happiness and this is the story of what happens on the journey. What made the movie for me was the way each character is described in intimate detail. I've never seen this technique used before. Basically, the movie pauses when you meet a central character and you are told about his/her background, habits, likes, dislikes, etc. Besides being very funny, it brings you even closer to Amelie's world. One last thing: The bit with the garden gnome is worth the price of the ticket! See it, buy it.

Incredibly funny, and yet deeply moving character.....

I have to admit that I was shocked to find out that it was Hugh Laurie playing the title role in this series. I had only known him as Bertie Wooster in the Jeeves and Wooster comedies. I had my doubts as to whether he could handle a role that was so totally different from what I usually associated with him.
But, my reservations were quickly swept aside as I watched him take on this incredibly funny, and yet quite often, tragic role of Dr. Gregory House. I've never seen a more moving portrayal of a deeply flawed human being, struggling with drug addiction, constant physical pain, and a cynical, caustic outlook on life. My congratulations to the cast, creators , and writers of this show---this one is a real winner!
