Better than the original!!

What a let down! The Movie Trailers actually showed the best parts, so once I saw the movie I was expecting more. Although the Fathers Retirement Dinner was funny, I found the table chat hard to follow as Eddie ad libbed so much. It was nothing like the first Movie.

Cinematic Crap At Its Best

As far as modern B-rated horror flicks go, none of them really seem to make the grade. With pitiful "slasher" movies like Scream and painfully dissappionting horror films like The Blair Witch Project, Event Horizon swoops in and shows us that awesome B movies can still be made. Underneath the blatant holes in the story (Like if the ship is orbiting Neptune in unpressureized airless space, why is it surrounded by clouds with thunder and lightning?), and dialog that sounds like it was written on the spot ("I need more time"..."Well thats exactly what we dont have, doctor!") lays cinematic crap at its best. Stunning visuals, gore galore and non-stop action puts this movie up in the ranks with Hellraiser and Re-Animator.

Arabian Nights - movie DVD cover picture
The Finest TV Movie Ever!

Arabian Nights is a spectacularly lavish fantasy!Based on the 1001 Arabian Nights that Schiharazade told the sultan every night to keep him in suspense and keep him from executing her! The story is marveously played out. It does not suffer the burden of being a TV movie and lacking the budget and grand scope of a movie but instead acts takes advantage of the fact that it is a TV show! Originally on television the story was divided into two separate two-hour parts, told different nights. But on DVD it plays just as a movie would, with lavish, larger-than-life sets that needed to be just right for the movie to succeed. And succeed the movie does, marvelously in fact.Telling 5 main stories in addition to the main story that's being played out. The stories are, in order: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (An expertly told adaption of the classic arabian tale with fine acting and even a twist ending that will please everyone), The Sultan's Jester (An amusing story that I had not heard before about a court jester who accidentally chokes on a fishbone and dies, the people who he was dining with, thinking that they had killed the Sultan's beloved jester, leave the body at the door of a doctor who also believing he'd killed the jester, brings him to another person's house and so on, all and all an amusing, well told tale), Aladdin and the Magic Lamp (The longest, biggest and most lavishly told of the 5 tales, Aladdin recounts the tale we all know, but a seemingly different, more authentic, and interesting version. Look for John Leguizemo of Moulin Rouge, and Collateral Damage as the genie), Never Tell the Same Joke Twice (A very interesting and seemingly new tale that ties the two main characters in the real story into this story. A tale that has the sultan playing jokes on one of his particular citizens by having him go from a drunk to waking up as the Sultan and then back and forth. All and all very amusing and even funny), The last story, surely one of the best, is a magical tale that tells the story of three brothers who go out on a quest to find the greatest gift on earth. A tale of love, hope, and brotherhood. Spectacular), abrubtly after this story ends we are thrust into a battle between the sultan and his evil twisted brother bent on revenge. The sultan uses something from each one of the stories told to him by the beautiful Schiherazade to fight the battle. The running time for the entire film is just under 3 hours. The time moves fast though, and the virtues of having this movie on DVD are clear once you see it on the disc. One wishes they could have recorded a commentary for the movie but alas, there is none as it is a TV movie. All in all a spectacular epic fantasy!

Audio 5 stars, visual 4 stars

I cannot count how many times I have seen this DVD being used to demo surround equipment. Many people consider this DVD to be the best of their music DVD collection. I'm inclined to agree. Listening to the DTS version in a surround setup is just about as good as the experience can get. The sound is crisp and detailed - I do have a minor quibble about the selection of songs the Eagles chose to play but that's about the only negative thing I can say. The visuals have a little bit too much movement for my liking but do convey the overall mood of the performance quite well.

Well Done!

A suprisingly good film. I'm not a great fan of South Park, but watching the creators is very funny. It's what you could call 'stupid' funny, where the things they do are so stupid, it's funny.
The movie was directed quite well and the actors suited their roles and we're very funny. I think it's worth seeing though, if your in the mood to laugh, you can watch it many times.

Whoever wrote the editorial review...

I assume if you're reading this that you've already also read Amazon's editorial review. While I will grant that "The Red Violin" had its slow point, in the inability for the violin to sell, I found it altogether very captivating. The cinematography was fantastic, along with the incredibly well thought out plot as to the history of the violin. Watching an object through history allows us to see many different characters develop thoughout the movie, and keeps us interested in how the violin will make it to the auction. This technique allows for both a contemporary movie and a period piece to blend together as one. All in all, while it's not a surprise as far as the finish goes, it's not supposed to be.

The Beatles Anthology - movie DVD cover picture
Worth buying again!!!

Even if you went out and bought the 8 tape VHS version of the anthology a few years ago, go out and this this DVD set. It is a MUST HAVE for Beatle people. Of course, the picture quality is great. This will be the very best copy of old concert footage you will find. However, the thing that really got to me was the sound. Hearing all those great songs remixed in 5.1 surround sound is out of this world! Take for example 'I Am The Walrus'. On the original recording, it switches to fake stereo half way through the song, due to recording limitations of the time. Now, in this anthology, the entire song is in fabulous 5.1! It is fantastic. Every song was obviously carefully remixed. The extras on the 5th disc are really good and interesting. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was extra concert footage (ex. the entire Shea Stadium or Washington concerts).Still, seeing Paul, George, and Ringo playing together for the last time was very touching. Definately worth every penny.

Brilliant film - Okay DVD

Trash is a film that is unlike any other, as is the two inferior films in the trilogy Flesh and Heat. Trash is a very funny though in the end rather sad look at impotent heroin addict Joe (Joe Dallasandrio) who is surrounded by women who want to cure him of his problem. One of whom is Holly (played by transvestite Holly Woodlawn in one of the most memorable performances ever) who in one bizarre scene even masturbates with a beer bottle. The two final scenes where Holly confronts Joe and when the welfare guy come around are two of my all time favourite scenes. The DVD release is rather dissapointing for not only is it entirely devoid of special features but something went bung in the transfer as the colour black in some scenes appears to look negative (as in film negative). Nevertheless Trash is a gem for any fan or cult enthusist with a DVD player.

Outstanding!

Folks, this is as good as you're going to see and hear the original series. This most striking aspect was the remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Red Alerts were going off all around, my sub boomed with explosions, and the Enterpirse flew right by via rear speaker panning. No, the extras we'd all like aren't there, but this is a must see for real ST fans!!!
