Best movie ever!!!

I love this movie and I watch it at least once a week. This Movie is next best to owning Johnny 5. I wish I could own J-5, but do not have the Big Bucks to by him even if he is real. The only thing wrong with this movie is some of the bad language, so I just fast forward some of the scences. I wish they would make more movies using Johnny 5, I would like to see Ben & Sandy get married and J-5 as the Best Man. My Husband & I rent DVD's and have kept this Movie since Oct., so I thought I better buy it, so I can return the rental to get to watch other DVD's. Great Movie that could be even better without the bad language...

Visual Poetry

The images, story and themes of this exquisite film are all top notch and I am delighted to have it in my collection. Or to put a more measured value on it: If I had to choose between the Ring trilogy and Mononoke, I prefer Mononoke. I loved the 3 Ring movies, but this is art. I think it is worth the price.
The sense of wonder you can get from this film is a lasting one. Anyone with an open mind and heart will enjoy it immensely and will continue to enjoy it with repeated viewings. I don't want to start describing it in any more detail, but the film is not for every taste so I'll just say, SEE THIS FILM if* you're open to eastern traditions and ways of thinking.* you're open to seeing a great film that doesn't fit into narrow confines of any genre.* you're an adult who understands that good and evil exists in all of us.* you're willing to look at greed and violence in thoughtful ways.

Olsens rock!

This is by far the best MK&A movie yet. It's really funny and kind of silly and just a lot of fun. And it's got stuff for kids of all ages.
Plus all the Australia stuff is hilarious. And most of all, the girls look great. (Don't just take it from me -- my brother thinks so, too!)
If you like great locations, and fun adventure, this movie is rocking.
If you liked any of their other movies, you're going to LOVE this one!

Needs wider acknowledgement as a damn funny film

You can read what the film's about elsewhere on this page. It's a shame it hasn't received wider recognition, probably because the story is one hellva lot to take in. Perhaps the 'general public' haven't been open minded enough. But this is damn funny stuff & it really lifts the spirits. There's a subtext about the ordinary working Jo making a difference, but the subjokes are better - like Geoffrey Rush striking a Saturday Night Fever pose when they have to run to the Disco Room. And as for the big jokes they just keep on coming. Decent special effects too - why the hell was this film passed over? Didn't the film studio know what to do with it?

A must-see for fantasy lovers

I read the original novel this movie is based on, in fact I have it at home. Beautiful scenery a wondeful grasp of the period lends the movie some artistic quality, beginning with the opening credits showing tapestry scenes many unicorn aficionadoes will already be familiar with. A classic quest tale comparable to Homer's "Oddessy" a unicorn searches for her lost kinfolk. Helping her along her way are Schmendrick, a poor man's Merlin and Molly Grue, a poor woman who still, knows a lot more of unicorns than the incompetent Schmendrick, who is described at one point as not being able to "turn cream into cheese". When his magic does work right, it's by sheer accident but when he allows his power to flow through him as it will he calls forth Robin Hood and his Merry Men, not forgetting Maid Marian. Of course at the end our heroes win out, Schmendrick finds his true magic, the Unicorn finds the others captured and imprisoned within the waves of the sea and the lost sense of magic and wonder is restored to the world at large. What I wouldn't give to be a character in this story, I could happily give up my entire reality to live in this world forever. Also the soundtrack by Queen adds to the general artisticness beginning with the opening title theme.

Season 6 is one of the best!!!

A great Season 5 sets up a brilliant Sixth Season. Just about every episode in this season will make you laugh! "The One with Unagi" is probably one of the funniest Friends episodes ever, not to mention "The One With the Routine" where Ross and Monica do their dance that they made up in high school! It's just classic! It's arguably the best season of all! Going by how the others were, I'd say that this DVD set is a must have with good features. Can't wait until January! Buy it!

Creature from the Black Lagoon - movie DVD cover picture

To give a rating based purely on the strength (or weakness) of this hokey movie alone would only get perhaps 2 stars.

OK, I understand it is a rubber suit and I can smile at that. However some things, such as the creature having opposible thumbs (to facilitate strangling people), a few Hollywood conventions such as the slow-turn-of-the-head-over-the-shoulder- then-shocked-look-and-subsequent-scream- before-being-killed-offscreen, some continuity errors - the winch boom is broken in one scene then intact later, and the suspect geological dig (nearly intact forearm still in one piece), the fact that although the creature swims very quickly underwater he doesn't catch the bathing beauty, etc. If you can let these types of things go by, then the movie will be even better for you. However, it was rather inventive for its time - extensive underwater photography, in "3-D" no less - with generally good acting and production values, and if you can excuse the corniness and blatant "non-science", then it certainly rates higher.

Somewhat disconcerting scenes have the beauty (apparently a non-smoker in real life) take a puff from a cigarette, then casually toss it into the lagoon, and then the scientists pollute the lagoon with poison to hopefully force the creature to the surface - but end up with lots of floating dead-looking fish.

The movie (and its sequel) was actually inspired by the King Kong movie, and therefore is another in the beast-loves-beauty and monster movies which includes The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Mummy, The Wolfman, and Frankenstein, etc. Not sure why any member of his species would find any human attractive in a romantic way, but there it is.

The DVD extras are very nice including an interesting commentary, a short documentary, and some text-based cast/crew/production notes.

The Office - The Complete First Series - movie DVD cover picture
The best show on TV that the American's will steal & mess up

The absolute wit of this series should say it all. Our friends across the pond have done it again with The Office. As Americans, we own a lot to the English television, and I'm not just talking about Benny Hill and Monty Python. They have brought us such gems as The Royle Family, Father Ted, Coupling, and countless others, but The Office hits home. Anyone who has enjoyed the great film Office Space will love this program mainly because you know these people, they are the same people in your office with the same problems and attitudes. The only sad part is that since it is a hit, some American network will try to re-tool it (dumb it down) to fit what they think Americans will watch. Look at what they did to Coupling! So hurry and buy this series and then buy the 2nd when is do out. Never take my word for it. How do you know if I have even seen it?
