Best movie I've ever seen

I hate to sound like a film elitist, but this is NOT, I repeat, NOT a bad film -- so ignore those pathetic (and unreasonable) one star reviews below. In fact, Steven Soderbergh's descent into the drug trade is absolutely brilliant, giving us the lowdown from all angles. Beautiful cinematography, top notch acting from a talented ensemble cast, and simply good filmmaking on so many differently levels. Traffic is definitely worth buying and it should have won best picture.

A Vision of Rome - in DTS

In Gladiator, Commodus says he will show the people a vision of Rome - and that is exactly what this film gives us, a vision. Do not watch this film (or any other Roman epic, for that matter) expecting historical accuracy, watch it for the vision of Rome, which is the best that we have yet witnessed, from the bustling city streets to the torn up forests of Germania. At the film's core, of course, are the massive spectacles of the Collosseum, which are captured quite faithfully. There is a wonderful deleted scene on the DVD where Maximus witnesses Christians being fed to the lions between gladiator contests. This scene shows the horror and depravity of the Roman mob through the eyes of an innocent child, clutching his mother on the sandy floor of the arena.
In addition to grand spectacle, this is probably the best DVD I have ever purchased with regard to technical detail. The deleted scenes and documentaries are a very novel touch. Some films have a few deleted scenes, but 25 minutes' worth!?!
If you have a DTS setup for your home theater, BUY THIS DVD. I watched it with my parents at their home over Thanksgiving and had major reservations about the big screen spectacle's translation onto video, and then I got home and popped it in my DTS system. I cannot begin to explain the awe - the sound editing on this movie should win an Oscar. If it weren't R rated, every high-end home theater store would be showing this film to show of DVD and DTS capability.

Revenge is Sweet! A great role for Jim Caviezel.

I had last seen Jim Caviezel in 'High Crimes' playing a horrendous role as a sensitive, yet not-so-bright ex-military guy who turns out to have murderous schizophrenic skeletons in his closet. Imagine the 'Manchurian Candidate' (a Frank Sinatra movie about wartime brainwashing) set in the 21st century and you'll get the idea.
I therefore did not have high hopes for this movie - but I was very pleasantly surprised! Jim's sensitivity serves him well in the first half of the film when he plays Edmond Dantes, a guileless soul who is railroaded by his best friend - and who takes years while in prison even to realize the depth to which he has been betrayed.
Fortunately, in the second half of the film he emerges as the suave Count of Monte Cristo who is both brave and conniving, yet not immune from the swelling breasts of Mercedes, his voluptuous love interest played warmly by Dagmara Dominczyk -- who looks, with her gorgeous cheekbones and deep-set eyes, like a younger version of Monica Bellucci ('Malena,' 'Tears of the Sun').
Richard Harris appears in a great role as Edmond's mentor in prison. And Guy Pearce (who reminds me of Brad Pitt), as Dante's backstabbing friend, is someone you truly loath from the get-go!
There are some interesting twists along the way - the best ones provided by Dagmara, which leads to an extra happy ending! And no one, strangely, appears to age very much during the sixteen years Edmond was held in captivity.
The Count of Monte Cristo, in his day, was wealthier and more powerful than Warren Buffet and Bill Gates - combined! For a richly detailed retelling of Alexandre Dumas' classic, this latest rendition of the 'Count of Monte Cristo' was immensely satisfying. I highly recommend it.

excellent job

It starts off slow with a lot of introduction, but eventually covers 18 Pilates moves at a good pace.
Probably the only real gripe I have - and it's a big one - is that modifications to make the moves easier or more challenging are shown AFTER you've started the exercise - sometimes even halfway through.

Great show! Is the video an "uncut" version with more scenes? (I hope). We loved watching it, and were constantly interpreting scenes in light of the Bible, which King does an excellent job with! If only the evil had been resisted, it would have gone away! Why is this so costly, though?

I purchased this vido when my son was 9 months old after seeing it on a Barney video. I put it on and he stayed in front of the TV and didn't move. He's now going to be a year old and still loves it. Now he dances to it. The songs are upbeat and catchy and their voices are soothing. The pirate is very funny also. My husband and I sing these songs while we are at work. I highly recommend this video for children.
