Beauty is the Best

Like the sumptuous DVD of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves", Disney has produced another gloriously packaged keepsake for its Academy Award-nominated film "Beauty and the Beast".
The DVD has enough contents to keep the viewer busy for days! There are three versions of the movie here! The "work in progress" version (all line drawings, black and white, and rough) is a little hard to watch after a while, but very interesting, nonetheless.
The menues are adorable and Disneyesque. I find the disks to be very easy to navigate. Although, on disk 2 the voices tell you not to choose the "rose window" -- that leads to the west wing of the castle and is forbidden!! Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was click on the rose window. So there is a sense of fun on the disk.
I found the documentaries to be especially informative. The art of animation is explained. The use of computers is shown. The process of developing the story is fascinating: A powdered wig fop was the original villain. "Be My Guest" was sung to Belle's father, not Belle. There are lots of these stories. There are galleries that show the film's early artwork and the "Dangerous Liaisons" look that the artists were going for.
The movie itself is very entertaining. I'm a huge admirer of the opening musical number ("this small provential town...") - it sets the mood and tone for the film so wonderfully.
"Beauty and the Beast" proved that Disney can sometimes achieve greatness with the animated film like Uncle Walt used to in the old days. It's right up there with "Lion King" as one of the best films in the new Michael Eisner/Disney regime.

You will laugh so hard you will cry!!!

I was so happy to find out this was coming out on DVD. I owned the video of this and watched it so much I ended up wearing the tape out. This to me is Bill Cosby at his stand up best. After all these years I still find myself laughing hard, with tears running down my face like it's the first time I've seen his performance. Bill Cosby is an awesome story teller. Hiss set is simple. The stage, and a chair. He tells a story and he really has something to talk about. Unlike some of the comedians to today that cuss to fill in the space where they ran out of things to say. Bill Cosby knew how to be funny without all the foul language.

I love it when he talks about his wife going into labor and grabbing his bottom lip and lifting it over his head screaming "I want morphine!!!!" "Mom can't have drugs; the father can have all the drugs he wants." He talks about how his parents want to get into heaven and treats the grandchildren better then they treated him as a child. Brain damaged children, feeding chocolate cake to the children for breakfast. How fathers are more fun then Moms because fathers are allowed to have gas. The Baby poo poo. He talks about being high and laughing for no reason. Drugs and paranoia, Getting drunk, going to the Dentist. Brain Damaged children saying "I don't know" when you ask them a question.

You can appreciate the material because you can relate to it. Some of what Bill talks about you may have experience yourself, and now you can laugh about it if you did not laugh about it before. Granted the sound quality is not the best, but considering this was taped in 1982 you can't really be too upset. Just turn up the volume and enjoy!!! This is a wonderful, wonderful DVD you should own to round out your stand up comedy collection. You will watch this over and over, and laugh each time you view this DVD.

Sleep! It can happen!

We received this DVD as a shower gift and completely forgot about it - until our daughter was nearly a month old, and was getting me up about every hour to nurse her, hardly ever actually calming down for the night until 2 AM. I found the DVD and watched it, and started applying the 5 S's immediately. Getting my daughter to go down for a nap was super easy. Best of all, I nursed her and put her to bed around 9, and she slept SOUNDLY until 1:30! Then, after eating, she slept again until 5! Amazing. I am a new woman, with a much happier baby. I am lending this DVD to everyone who has a small baby or will be taking care of one!!!! If it works like this every night, I want to find Dr. Karp and kiss him!!!!

this movie was awesome

As a real life fire fighter, i am able to see some hollywood untruthes to this movie. BUt main story and visual affects were just simply awesome. I think if you don't shed a tear at the end of this movie youre heart would have to be made of stone. This movie gives you a real petspective on the every day challenges fire fighters face every day, by putting them selves in harms way for someone they don't even know. The realalzation that they might not come home some day and that four men i white shirts may come in there place is real.

Psychedelic serial killer tale

The Oscar winning Oliver Stone directed this, in a very strange style, with quick cuts, fancy angles, black and white, neon colors, animation, alternate backgrounds, etc. It may take awhile to get used to for some, but it makes the film very stylish. The film is about two lovers who go on killing people in towns along a desert highway. Of course the media make them stars, and they are the talk of the country. Every channel covers their story, and books are written about them. They are finally caught, and are soon to be executed. But a high profile TV show host, realizes the kinda money he can make, having a last interview with them.
The acting is good, as well is the script. The film has a lot of funny parts. Its an interesting story about how two murderous people, find a way to stop. But what the film is really about is how the media, and public eat these crime stories up, and constantly talk about, and watch them. For a lot of people it may hit to close to home, and a lot of this film will offend many. There is a lot of violence, and language. It also doesn't have your classic Hollywood ending. Like the main character says, this is the 90s (now 21st century), and the truth isn't always what is right.
This disc also has deleted scenes, including an alternate ending with commentary by the director. There is also an interesting documentary, and audio commentary. Like I said this film is not for most people, but for those not afraid of alternative films that criticize what is popular (and hypocritical), this will be a treat. Good satire, even though the directing may make you a little dizzy afterwards, I highly recommend this, 5 stars.

Faithful to the book?

A very funny book made into a very attractive movie.Which to do first - read the book or watch the movie?I guess read the book.BUT the movie has been fleshed out quite a bit.The only place where it fails is in the friends of Brigid. They are flat and muddled and very uninteresting. But on the plus side we have injokes with Mark Darcy echoing some of his poses and walks from Pride and Prejudice and a good central performance from Renee Zelweger as the hapless Brigid.Maybe you will lose a bit of patience with her as she does not develop as a character but this often happens if an actress is mostly concerned with putting on an English accent to the detriment of character development. You`ll either love it or be completely indifferent - that depends on the amount of interest you have in thirty-something singletons living in London and in Colin Firth as the sexiest hunk of all time.I enjoyed it and would watch it again and again. My favourite addition was Mark`s Christmas sweater and tie.Hilarious and an improvement on the book. Also the ending which left lots of room for the sequel.

"The Cell" is visually STUNNING, once Lopez's character enters the killer's twisted mind you are thrown into a suspenseful roller coaster ride (music video style). Shifting from present day to the alternate world the viewer is kept on the edge of their seat awaiting the next shock, and wondering what the outcome will be.
