Beautifully designed DVD that complements the film

The layout and extras of the DVD are great features to an already wonderful film. The cinematography, the music, and the astounding cast especially Jurnee Smollett makes this one of my favorite movies. The short film and the user-selected commentary feature of the DVD provides an added bonus by giving the viewer some background on the production and a scene by scene discussion of the film. Kasi Lemmons made a strong freshman directorial debut and I can't wait to see her next effort.

The Razor's Edge - movie DVD cover picture
A truly exceptional movie--an all time favorite--must see!

If you are an intelligent viewer who is looking for a significant and possibly mind expanding movie event then "The Razor's Edge" is for you. It has remained one of my favorite films for fifteen years, and I have owned it and replayed it many times. If you look at the viewer feedback for this film you will find that the vast majority of people rate is as "Excellent" (76% of imdb raters give it a 10/10 rating) those who fail to see it's qualities can be divided fairly equally into the "don't get it" camp (Unlike the typical Hollywood lowest denominator flick, the minimum IQ for viewing is Razor's Edge is probably 100, and that leaves ? the population out) and the "disappointed" crowd, who have so typecast the star (Bill Murray) that they wanted "Caddyshack" and just can't allow him to be a serious actor. You must set aside you prejudices and give the man a chance-Bill Murray is a Harvard grad, he co-wrote the screen play-this was a labor of love for him. Just because he has a sense of humor does NOT make him a lightweight, as this film demonstrates for anyone with the eyes to see it. Based upon the 1942 W. Somerset Maugham novel, it follows the evolution of a spoiled upper class boy from Illinois (Larry, Bill Murray), who volunteers to be an ambulance driver in WW I for a little "fun and adventure" and instead gets a dose of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). His world was forever changed by the events he experienced. He literally could not go home again after the war. He tried, and found the lives of those around him to be shallow and meaningless, and their pursuits and interests just trivial. There had to be a reason why he was here, and this sets the stage for the real point of the movie, which is an exploration of the meaning of life. (I told you it wasn't Caddyshack!) Obsessed with these existential issues, and finding that alcohol did not make the need go away, Larry travels to Paris, and starts to read, serious books on philosophy and religion, supporting himself as a laborer. He does not care much for his surroundings-his lack of materialism is in marked contrast to his peers and friends from before, whose dreams are to grow wealthy in the stock market. An early Bohemian. I found this particularly poignant: to watch this movie that foreshadowed the tech boom and bust, and realize a whole new crass materialistic generation's world was just as rocked by a stock market crash AFTER this movie was made! His fianc?e could not deal with this, and left him, to marry someone she did not love but who had money. Another contrast to the shallow and materialistic, which is a recurring theme throughout the film-what brings happiness to a man? Larry's journey took him to India, and Hindu religion, and then on to Tibet to discover Buddha-the scenes filmed there are absolutely breathtaking, so I hope you can find a letterbox laserdisc or they finally bring this out on DVD-it is worth it to see the whole screen. There is romance, and love, and loss. I won't reveal the ending, which is truly bittersweet, and a bit nihilistic. This is truly the best thing this fine actor ever accomplished, and I rate it a strong "10". This should have won many awards, and should also be considered a true classic; I am disappointed in my fellow man that they so typecast the star that they could not see what a great contribution he made with this effort here. Not light fare, and a long film, but one worth seeing.

The L Word - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture
Loving these Lovely Ladies

Perhaps the L Word originally intended to cast a net to catch a small niche audience; women wanting to see their lives represented on television. The end result of the L Word, however, casts a large net by telling compelling, interesting stories of compelling, interesting women.

Set in in the great sin city, Los Angeles, the L Word tells the story of several women who are friends. Bette and Tina, the show's "power couple", start the series trying to concieve a child and suffer the problems of finding an adequate sperm donor. Tennis player Dana is just starting to come to terms with her orientation and the demands of a burgeoning successful career. Writer Alice, the group's bisexual, plays sweet while dealing with a kooky mother and a male "self-professed lesbian". Shane, who starts out as the show's loose cannon, grows into her character as the episodes progress to a complex woman actually dealing with strong feelings. And then there's Tim and Jenny, who test the bounds of their relationship when Jenny starts an affair with coffee shop owner, sultry Marina. Each of these women are self-realized and very real.

Kudos goes to the women who play these characters honestly, and realistically. You can see each of them grow into their performances as they get comfortable in their characters skins, especially with Jennifer Beals portrayal of Type-A Bette. Also, kudos to Mia Kirshner, who gives Jenny's struggle through the first season real heart and intrigue. She is everyone who has ever struggled with their sexual identity, and Mia nails the struggle on the head.

However, it's one Pam Grier, who plays Bette's straight sister Kit, who will run away with your heart as she wrestles with the demons of her alcoholic past. Pam is absolutely luminous in her role; somehow managing to play each scene with dignity and sorrow. If one should be turned off by the content of the show, one should watch it if only for Grier's beautiful performance.

And the content of the show is definitely not for everyone. Easily offensive to those people who prefer one closed-minded version of the world, the L Word may not be for them. However, for the rest of us who love a good story, and who love to see strong women characters dealiing with life's issues, the L Word should be on our must-see list.

If you like will like the matrix

Both are based on philosophy of decartes. Decartes philosophized about the posibility of everything we sense being imaginary...that sensation, and therefore memory, could just be fed to our minds. Both films create great atmosphere, great effects and great characters. Sit back and enjoy.

Bruce Lee - A Warrior's Journey - movie DVD cover picture
Good documentary, plus the REAL Game Of Death

Overall a great movie. It features more on Bruce Lee's offscreen and onscreen character, and more specifically, his own personal philosophy of life and martial arts. It contains home movies, interviews with Linda Lee Cadwell and friends, and a lot more. But the true gem in this movie is the misssing footage of the Game of Death. You get to see the original script as Bruce Lee intended it. You also get to see 30 minutes of fighting sequences not seen in the '78 release of the Game of Death. It's a real shame what the producers did with that movie, as they did a totally different script from the one that Bruce Lee had in mind, and they also put in only 11 minutes of the original fighting sequences. I believe that there is probably more of the original GOD footage, particularly some outdoor fight scenes, but nonetheless this is the best you're going to find to date. This release is a must have for any Bruce Lee or martial arts fan.

Waiting for Guffman - movie DVD cover picture
"Waiting For Guffman" is the best comedy in years!

Many, many people told me to see this movie and it took about a year to get to it. Boy, I could have been laughing a whole lot earlier. This really was one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Christopher Guest is brilliant as Corky St. Claire. Catherine O'Hara was so right on in her portrayal of Shiela Albertson (I want to try that less is more kind of acting). This is one of those examples of a flawlessly cast movie. If you have ever been on a stage in your life or know people who have, see this film. "The songs are really catchy, I can't get a few of them out of my head. To an almost annoying point". Stool boom!

My Sexual Harassment - movie DVD cover picture

I own this DVD and have watched it with my Yaoi friends at least a hundreds times - though something we both agree with is that the main protagonist is loud lol. Though now 'genitals' are shown it's a lovely addition to any Yaoi Fans Library (like mine) though with the side panel reading "My Sexual Harrasment" with a half naked chick on the side it's a little odd. My brother was thinking I was buying Hentai until he read the back. (Like I'd ever be into that disguisting stuff! Bishonen boinking all the way!). There is a story, and you end up feeling sorry for the man who actually loves the protangonist.

This video is wonderful, Shania is a wonderful performer, and a awesome singer. She sounds just as great in her concerts, as she does on her albums. Shania is full of spirit and fun and this video shows all different sides of her. Any true Shania fan must have this video. To me, it is a momento of her concert I attended, May 8th. I can replay my experience over and over! Great job, Shania!

The Mummy Returns is arguably the greatest movie of all time

I just love The Mummy Returns. Its so perfect. There are love scenes, non stop action, the best visual effects and one of the best things I like about TMR is that the entire cast is back. Its like you know these people. The presence of WWF/WCW champion The Rock as The Scorpion King is a great welcome and seeing Alun Armstroing as the Curator is really neat.I just adore TMR,it was MY most anticapated movie and I`M glad its here!I bought Alan Silvestri`s score from Amazon and it is the most impressive music a person will ever hear!By the way,Silvestri`s music matches perfectly in every scene in The Mummy Returns!
