I saw this movie and it was horrible, but the spell of the plot kept you watching no matter how much you wanted to turn. they have picked a perfect title for this movie because one glimpse of this flick, you are hooked. The movie, itself is only two stars, but the way they keep you in the movie gives it a five.

Great Music--ADD Editing

If you can tolerate the rapid fire editing (197 cuts in the first song alone), you'll love this DVD. I understand the need to make things visually interesting, but this is getting ridiculous. Can't we just watch the band play for more than 2 seconds? This DVD may end up being one of the ones I enjoy more with the TV off. Even with the distracting visuals, it still rates 5 stars on the strength of the music alone.

An Oscar winning classic

This Academy Award winner in 1946, directed by William Wyler, depicts the return of three WWII vets who meet on a plane back to their middle America home town of Boone City. The three, played by Frederic March, Dana Andrews, and Harold Russell each have readjustments after being away for three years. The most obvious readjustment is for Al Parrish, Russell's role, who lost both hands in the war. He was fitted with prosthetic hooks which he learned to use very adeptly. Nontheless, he returns to a place where he will be pitied and where the reaction of his fiancee is uncertain. Russell, was, in fact, an amputee. He lost his hands in the war so, to a large extent, he was playing himself.

Frederic March plays Al Stevenson, an older bank executive who was a seargent in the war, He comes home to a loving family and wonderful wife played by Myrna Loy. However, even he has serious readjustments. He comes home to see his children older and very much changed. Things are not the way he left them and these changes are difficult to absrorb. His first night home is spent with his wife and daughter as they hit the local nightclubs with Al getting drunker and drunker. He hooks up with his recent companions as they all celebrate. Although it's a night of fun and celebration, there is a darker side as the best way he can think of to reunite with his family is to get drunk. The message is that he can't cope with the changes he has encountered and must medicate himself.

Dana Andrews plays a returning pilot who had recently been married before he left for the war. It soon becomes clear that he and his wife didn't know each other well when they married and the prospect of his returning to work as a drug store soda jerk is not the life his wife wants. Clearly, this is a marriage that won't work. Maenwhile, he finds a possible new love interest in an unlikely place. To make matters more uncertain, he discovers that the drug store, which was owned by an individual, has been absorbed by a large chain and his relationships at work will be very different.

Was the pre war past the best years of their lives or was it the time they served in the armed forces? Have the obstacles to readjustment made the future bleak; or, is there hope that their lives will be straightened out and the best years are yet to come? I highly recommend this great classic.

You haters...

God, you guys are such idiots. Genesis has been awesome throughout its 30 years of existence. And Jesse or whatever your name was, Calling All Stations was the worse - and yet it was still good - album by Genesis. The Phil Collins era was the best thing to happen to the band despite some of the creativity Peter Gabriel had taken away by leaving, and the DVD proves it. GENESIS RULES, (...)

Water Crystals in Motion . Messages from Water

Excellent - and very interesting.
Interesting to the point, where I have tried out myself putting
labels with blessings on my water bottles.
It actually benefits the people that drink from it.
The DVD is more interesting than the book, since one actually sees, what goes on in the water. There is food for thought in
the Messages from Water.

'The Deer Hunter' is THE star-making movie.

"Will this film ever get to the point - the war in Vietnam"? you wonder, as the long wedding scene streches on and on. But Pittsburgh Polish weddings were just like in the film - see the photographs of W.Eugene Smith.
But get to the action it sure does in no uncertain manner. The bamboo jail sequence must be the most terrifying and realistic in cinema history. Forget their other films, Christopher Walken and Robert deNiro have never been better than here.
The ice cold Walken, the naked terror of the prisoner whom deNiro must persuade to 'go up' and his own lunatic ferocity show these actors at their peak. This sequence must rate as the best I have ever seen in a movie and justifies adding it to you classics collection.

Great Movie with an Excellent Sound Track

Even if you do not get the storyline, how can you not like the music? This is like the ultra eighties music track. And I thought the story line was excellent. This movie is about an innocent guy, nice guy, who is trying to make the best of a life that should have been more. If you do not like this movie than you must not have a heart.

Anderson's masterpiece (out of the 3)

Having not caught on to how good he was in 1997, the American moviegoers finally realized how good Paul Thomas Anderson is when "Magnolia" was finally released on video in late July 2000, most having missed it in the theatres in early January.
I remember the week I saw PTA's third picture on video, the very week it came out, it was the subject of every chat room, the topic at every video store, the hottest rent on the shelf (thanks mainly to its much talked about frog-raining climax).
But although most would favor with Anderson's three hour opus, I say "Boogie Nights" is his masterpiece. Probably because anyone familiar with Robert Altman's "Short Cuts" knows it has so much in common, and is so much more ambitious than "Magnolia", right down to the natural disastor climax, that it could be said that Anderson deliberately plaugerized Altman's plotlines(it was made six years before, you know).
"BN" on the other had was something PTA had brewing in his mind for years; he made a short Dirk Diggler mockumentary in 1987, and wrote the first drafts of "Nights" before his debut feature "Hard Eight". Every character in the film is memborable both tragically and comically. They seem completely fresh and original with every repeat viewing, even the most minor of characters such as Eddie's unmericful mother, the eccentric mechanic Todd Parker, the dope fiend Rhnand Jackson and his Chinese comrade Cosmo, and Phillip Baker Hall's porn producer mafioso-Floyd Gondolli. Not to mention career high performances by Phil Hoffman and John C. Reilly, PTA has compiled one of the greatest casts ever for a contemporary film.
Sure the direction and editing bear a striking resemblance to that of Scorsese and Schoonmaker, but that's surely not an insult to Anderson or his film. Unlike "Magnolia" Anderson crafted "Boogie Nights" with ALL his own imagination, conviction and heart.
