BMW- Season 2

The 2nd season of the series. During this year, Cory, Shawn and Topanga start 7th grade and find out that their old 6th grade teacher is the new principal of their high school. It also introduces the new character of Jonathan Turner who ends up being a mentor for Shawn.

Highlights of the season include Cory and Shawn leading a strike, Cory turning into a Werewolf, Cory taking on the school bully and Shawn moving into the Matthew's house after his parents abandon him.

This was a fantastic show! It covers a lot of real world issues in the lives of young teenagers with a mixture of light hearted humour and serious thought. The cast was great and showed a lot of maturity in their roles- I'm really looking forward to the release of the DVD!

Season 2 includes the following episodes- Back to school, Pairing off, Notorious, Me and Mr Joad, The Uninvited, Who's Afraid of the Cory Wolf?, Wake Up Little Cory, Band on the Run, Fear Strikes Out, Sister Theresa, The Beard, Turnaround, Cyrano, I Am Not A Crook, Breaking Up Is Really Really Hard to do, Danger Boy, On The Air, By Hook Or By Crook, Wrong Side Of The Tracks, Pop Quiz, The Thrilla' in Phila', Career Day, Home Sweet Home

The Weather Underground - movie DVD cover picture
Context explains everything

I knew nothing about the Weather Underground before seeing this film. I found this documentary to be very educational, from a historical point of view. These people acted with violence, feeling as if it was their last resort to stop the evil that the US was perpetrating in South East Asia. Its easy to condemn them as radicals but the truth is uglier than even they knew, If you watch Fog of War and the movie about Henry Kissinger's war crimes, you can clearly see that our government actively lied and committed murder in our name, with our hard earned tax dollars. The movie shows all the other avenues of pressure brought to our government: peaceful protests, angry protests, Nothing got through to our heads of state. So bombs went off within our own country. Its eerily similar to our current day lies about the war on Iraq and the huge marches for peace around our country today. Again, politicians back the money, the corporations, the PACs. As we ask our servicemen and women to re-up for more time in life-threatening war zones, we also tell them that we're not going to provide them with health insurance coverage when they are wounded. The Weathermen were young, idealistic and saw things in black and white, no compromise. See 'Monumental' and see the difference that can be made when one doesn't compromise - David Brower single-handedly preserved millions of acres of nature with Lady Bird Johnson's support, fighting against the money and power of huge corporations who were out for corporate profits. The Weather Underground was one voice of that time and I think it is important to know their motives instead of simply dismissing them as radicals. The US was built by radicals. Is it radical to want to act with integrity, to speak out against racism, to stand up against our government when we are killing other humans? I appreciated the sentiment of this movie and think it explains more fully the complexity of life back in the 60's. We're seeing it happen again... this time around, can we as a country provide options so that protests don't escalate to violence? Or are we again going to reject any informed dissent, leaving the door open for alternate forms of communication like the violent bombs of the Weather Underground?

I've never seen a more passionate, greater performance than the Who's singing "A Quick One". I'd like to watch the full Rock and Roll Circus just to see if the crowd explodes. Moon's sweat just pours off him and the drums by the end of the song, and Townshend is geeked up throughout. Daltrey hits one brutal note, but who cares - he was still getting better, unlike the others, who were at their peak as performers.
One thing I'd like to mention is how good Daltrey's interview on disc 2 is. He and Entwistle had very few lines in the movie, probably because Townshend and Moon were such strong forces, but now he's the last one standing, and his normalcy is now a plus. For one, he acknowledges what great harmonies they had (like the beginning of A Quick One), which is something rarely mentioned about the band because of Townshend's great songwriting and their strength in performance. But the truly touching part is his talking about watching the release of TKAA with Moon and how depressed Moon got, seeing scenes of himself bloated and essentially wasted mixed with scenes of the young, great drummer that he was. It's hard to believe that Moon was only 32 when he died.

Sixteen Candles - movie DVD cover picture
Excellent movie, but corrections to Luis Hernandez' review!

Considered to be one of the teen classics of the 1980's, "Sixteen Candles" marked John Hughes directorial debut in the genre of teenage films. Starring teen queen Molly Ringwald, "Sixteen Candles" chronicles a special day in the life of Samantha, a teenage girl residing in Shermer, Illinois. Due to all the hoopla that has overtaken her household because of her sister's impending marriage, everyone has forgotten about Samantha's 16th birthday.
At school, Samantha is given a secret exam by a friend that delves into her deepest thoughts, especially when the topic is boys. When the test accidentally falls into the hands of her prince charming, Jake Ryan (played wonderfully by Paul Dooley) Samantha's life will forever change. Pestered by the school geek (Anthony Michael Hall) Samantha discovers that all good things come to those who wait.
While Dooley went into obscurity, many of the film's stars went on to become well-known actors and directors. Keep an eye out for a young John Cusack ("Being John Malkovich") as one of Anthony Michael Hall's friends, Betty Thomas (director of the "Brady Bunch" movies and former "Hill Street Blues" star) as Samantha's mother, and Justin Henry (the young Oscar-nominee of "Kramer vs. Kramer" fame) as Samantha's obnoxious little brother. Ringwald's really life-sister, Beth, plays her younger sister in the film.
I loved the film, however when Universal Home Video chose Image Entertainment to transfer some of their most popular films onto DVD, a lot of the special features found on average DVD's were not included. With the exception of chapter selections, there are no trailers, actor bios, animated menus, language selections, or anything else to make this DVD version extraordinary. However this films was one of the best films of the 1980's due to its' charms and great young cast. I seriously miss Molly Ringwald, and only wished that the adorable Paul Dooley could have become a bigger-name star. The ending where Dooley shows up at the church where the wedding takes place and surprises Samantha is so wonderful that I have to watch it over and over again.
"Sixteen Candles" is a true classic in the genre of teenage films. John Hughes (along with Amy Heckerling) is among the best in Hollywood that could capture the spirit, woes, and everyday life of an average teen.

DLM Watcher

Season Two was great and I can't wait to buy it. It's a shame the show won't be back for season three. I guess we need to find out what shows the DLM writers will be working on next and hope that they don't let one idiot (or board of idiots) who don't know a good show when he sees one extinguish their creative fire!

Alien DVD

This is simply the best DVD currently available. In terms of the quality of the film itself and the extras on the disc, it surpasses everything else I have seen. The film has not dated (no dodgy haircuts) and it's ideas are still influencing sci-fi today - along with Kubruck's 2001. Ridley Scott's commentary, which can be heard alongside the film, is brilliant - giving genuine insight into the production.
A superb film on a superb disc. Just as atmospheric and full of suspense now, no matter how many times you've seen it. It should be a legal requirement for anyone with a DVD player to purchase this movie. Trust me - it is that good !

My favorite Musical of all time

The score and production values of this 1968 musical are the best of its genre. It was one of the first films directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Fred Astaire, Petula Clark & Kennan Wynn are all superb. It has a positive message about race relations and should be viewed by anyone who likes good music and simply wants to be entertained . They don't make them like this anymore. It is best seen on widescreen.

Outstanding film

Absolutely fantastic. One of the most stylish and well produced movies of at least the past decade. Actually inspired by true events of that era, the film has some of the most stylish cinemetography I've ever seen. The camera angles and use of slow motion coupled with the beautifully choreographed fight sequences make for one of the finest films I can remember. I can't wait to see what Christophe Gans has in store for us next. I can only hope the DVD does the film justice...

Free Your Mind!

WOW! I say again WOW! Masamune Shirow's masterpiece "Ghost in the Shell" was orginally manga yet it is even better as an anime. At first I was scepitical about this one, consider the anime "Appleseed", yet never did I expect it to surpase the manga. Director Mamoru Oshi, whom directed Patlabor and Patlabor 2, creates a future where what you see is not always real. In the future humans can connect with the internet through inplants on the back of their necks. A mysterious hacker known only as the Puppet Master has begun to hack into people minds creating a false memor in their brain, thus able to manipulate them like a puppet. Major Kusanagi is an assassin for a branch of the government known as Section 9. Soon the major and her team begin a hunt for the mysterious Puppet Master that leads from hidden agendas and government conspiracies to a scientific discovery that could redifine humanity. Ghost in the Shell is anime that has given rise to such films as "The Matrix". The animation is as good if not better then that of Patlabor 2 and Wing of Honneamise. The voices are good yet I have heard a better voice cast, such as "Neon Genisis Evangelion". The musical score like "Patlabor 2" is haunting yet also tranquil, I highly recomend the soundtrack. Ghost in the Shell asks all of us one question that will make you think "What does it mean to be alive?, what does it mean to be human?" This video is worth every penny you pay. Warning this film contains scenes of intense violence, nudity, and strong language recommended viewing is for 17 and up.
