BETTER THEN THE ORIGINAL BATTLESTAR!!

I grew up with and loved the original series. THe star wars craze of the time gave birth to this classic sci fi. The new updated version is what i believe Glen Larson envisioned for his show but was hampered by the tv genre at the time. What the new glactica brings is a more human touch as well a technolgy that makes it stand better the the original. Alot of emotion was not there in the original series. You never got the sense of the tradgedy at hand in the original series. In this newer version you do. You can feel the horror and fear in these characters knowing that they are being wiped out by the very things they created. You can feel the despair they feel to learn that what was once 12 planets with beaming large populations has been reduced to a rag tag fleet of the remaining 15,000 people left alive from this holocaust. Very well done indeed. With strong character development and a great revised story this miniseries goes where the original never could. I think if the new tv series is as good many will forget about the original. Its that good

The only reason I paid for satilite....

This show was only offered through a UPN in a different state. I paid $32.48 a month... just to watch this show. And I just loved seeing it not being shown for various insane reasons and then cancelled...
Anyway, my personal favorite of all Star Treks ever. It felt more... hum... real? Odd thing to say about a scifi show, but it's how it hit everyone who watched all our taped shows. One neighbor even planned to get satilite so he didn't have to wait to see the next show. I think he is not going to now, with the show being cancelled.

THE HUMOR IN THIS FLICK IS SO AMAZINGLING FUNNY, THAT YOU'LL NEARLY DIE LAUGHING SO HARD. WIERD ALL IS BRILLIANT IN THIS MOVIE, AND A PRE-KRAMMER MICHAEL RICHARDS MAKES MY STOMACH HURT WITH LAUGHTER. EVERY LINE IS WELL THOUGH AND GENIUS. WITH HILARIOUS FAKE COMMERCIAL, THIS MOVIE SHOULD WIN ALL THE AWARDS, EVEN THE NOBEL PRIZE. I MUST SAY, IT WAS THE FUNNIEST I LAUGHED, EVER. perfect blend of the art of comedy

One of the best series i`ve seen in the last decade. It has a perfect mix of different kinds of humor. The strength is in the characters. They really make the show, they have great chemistry together. And the producers never forget that it`s comedy, not like other series that have drama or romance take over....the main piont remains comedy....great series...

Bringing the marquis de Sade back to life

This film is a period piece during the last prison-years of the Marquis de Sade, whose name was later used to classify particular sexual perversities. Two hours or so, of absolute feast for the eyes, a banquet of colors, amazing live-in-worn-in costumes and settings that carry traces of master paintings! But above all, it is Mr. Rush's performance that repeatedly drove me to the edge of my seat. Joe Morgenstern, on his Wall Street Journal's column rates Rush's acting as over-shining the SHINE one. I could not agree more. It goes beyond portraying, it resuscitates de Sade. Imagine a silk"ed" and wigged aristocrat, over-flowing with Id, whose electrified spirit delivers arrogantly Doug Wright's lines! You end up..believe me.. somewhere in the twiligt zone, mesmerized. Some favorite scenes: the "chocolat pastilles eating scene" where voracity, lust and anger combine in front of your very eyes as compulsive eating; the "bone searching scene" so convincing down to the dirty finger nail; the "wine pouring scene" where gluttony feels the glass beyond the rim. Yet,I disliked the Grand Guignolesque aspect of certain scenes, like the large wooden vat filled with red, the prolongued tearful jeremiads of the Abbe Coulmier. Joaquin Phoenix has difficulties delivering Doug Wright's bold lines. In conclusion, in all the buzz around QUILLS more is said about de Sade than about Rush. How amazing! Rush brought the marquis back to life.

One of the best movies you'll ever see...

I put off seeing this film for a long time for fear that the violence would be unbearable. What is most remarkable is that I don't remember specific scenes of violence; I remember the overall violence of the film. Sometimes extreme graphic violence causes us to miss the content. This one nails the content.

The backdrop is the violent world into which these characters are ghettoized and how that ghetto breeds the 'City of God', where even the police rarely tread. The story revolves around Rocket, non-violent amongst the violent, a young boy who seeks liberation from this world through other means.

I cannot comment enough on the cinematography. The visual virtuosity and the musical score are so intertwined, it is one continuous viscerally stunning film. Not one moment of dialogue is wasted, not one character is in excess, not one scene is irrelevant. There are many characters and many underlying plots occurring simultaneously yet not once did I cease to follow. The characters all appear real.

The storyline is tight and builds to a climax that will kind of linger with you for days and weeks after. It's a film you just won't forget. It is a striking film and will bring that world as close to your doorstep without getting burnt as you'll most likely ever get. Do not miss this film.

BIG EDEN - BIG PLEASURES!

In concept, acting and overall execution HONESTY is the byword for this very real story of a triangular relationship which plays out in the nexis of a loving -- and humorous -- mountain community. There is also a big-city/small community axis to grind the central character. Beautiful location shots on the edge of a mountainside lake, lovable and well-developed characters, sentiment, a fanciful concept, constant laughter and strong drama combine in this film -- the kind of DVD you want to show to friends and recommend to acquaintances. A cult following is inevitable for a movie so unique and insightful, which apparently had no widespread public screenings. When its over, you wish you could meet these people in person.... and maybe we do every day without knowing it.... Brava! Bravo!

come and share the weirdness

I bought this DVD only because the image on the cover was so intriguing, and I had no prior knowledge of the story whatsoever. Now that I just finished watching twice -- each time with dub and sub (both are great), I am very happy with it.
Lain is an exellent anime with a very different style. Although character design may seem overly stylized, too simple maybe, combination with computer-generated images, and effective use of sound, such as the eerie hum of electric lines, create the perfect atmosphere for its story.
I've only seen this first DVD which has 4 episodes, and I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what's going on. My advice is that if you are looking for fast action and excitement, stay away from this one. "Lain" is really slow most of the time, and will certainly test your patience.
I don't mind the slow pace at all because the visual is just wonderful, and music is great too.
One more thing -- for the first time, I got goosebumps from watching an animation. Some scenes from "Lain" can get really creepy, which is another reason I love this anime!
