Species - movie DVD cover picture

In this B-grade Sci-fi flick, the government combines alien DNA with human eggs resulting in a female alien/human hybrid dubbed Sil. The alien, played by Natashia Henstridge, has an insatiable urge to procreate. It's basically a big master plan by the aliens who sent the DNA to colonize earth. Sil escapes her captivity and goes on the prowl for unsuspecting men to impregnate her. Meanwhile the government dispatches a handpicked team to find Sil. Led by the sarcastic Michael Masden and the compassionate Marg Hellenberger, the team tracks Sil to Los Angeles. Here the body count rises as the team races to find Sil before she can mate.
The concept is a good one and the acting/dialog is on par with what you would expect from B-grade Sci-fi. Sil's alien persona is based on creatures created by artist H.R. Giger (Giger also created the designs for the creatures in the Aliens movies). Giger's biomechanical aliens often take on sexual overtones, a concept that is carried through in this movie. The movie plays like a X-Files episode at times as Masden and Helenberger take center stage in the hunt for Sil. The computer generated FX in the closing scenes are dated, but effective. The DVD is a budget version from MGM offering very little in the way of extras. The movie is presented in both widescreen and full screen formats. The picture is crisp a clear with excellent detail. Sound is good and presented in Dolby 5.1. Species is a definite asset to the sci-fi buffs DVD library and a must for "creature feature" fans. Helenberger, Masden, and Henstridge returned a couple of years later for the inferior but entertaining sequel Species II.

This is an excellent movie. It captures the essenceof Tolkien's masterpiece of heroic myth. I've had itfor one week and have already watched it twice. Thereis always something new and fresh about it. Each raceis perfectly represented. It is visually stunningand emotionally breathtaking. There is a rich undercurrentof spirituality that gives the heroic adventure storysubstance and a sense of transcendence. This moviecaptured Tolkien's sense of grace and portrays itwonderfully.

A must see movie

This movie maybe a little bit too much for some people to handle, but if you can get over any conservative ideas about sex then you can truly appreciate this movie. The story is brilliant, and the actors do a great job. Dont think this is some cult film for the BDSM community, even though im sure it will become one, this is one of the best love stories ever written.

Sheer Perfection

In my opinion, the early color cartoons of Mickey Mouse, are some of the best works by Walt Disney. This collection of many of them is amazing. The only thing I can say against it is that the DVD design is not very well done. The DVD always starts with Leonard Maltin's commentary on Mickey Mouse, and if you've seen it once, that is probably enough. It would be nice if it went directly to the cartoon. Despite that, though, this is an amazing DVD. The cartoons are great, and presented in wonderful condition.

The Standards Trio live in Japan

Typically excellent concert by Jarrett / Peacock / De Johnette performed at an open theatre on a wet day in July 1993. Numbers played: "In Your Own Sweet Way", "Butch And Butch", "Basin Street Blues", "If I Were A Bell", "Oleo", "Bye Bye Blackbird", "The Cure", "I Thought About You" and a 26 minute "Solar - Extension" in which I finally get to see how the ever-inventive De Johnette makes some of his unique sounds. Deceptively easily, that's how!. Amusing to see the audience sitting motionless out in the gloom while these guys give it everything! We know, of course, that the Japanese love the music and revere the musicians (and they do respond when appropriate, by the way!) but it does look funny. Two hours of this wonderful trio in concert. It's a buy!

Ouch! My sides hurt!!

Well, I just got back from the movie theater. A buddy of mine works there and he invited me up tonight to watch the pre-screening of Jackass. My body aches from laughing so much. The total run time of the movie was about an hour and a half, but I swear it felt like maybe 20 minutes. I definitely recommend this movie!

The Passion of the Christ (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
The Greatest Movie Ever Made

The Passion Of The Christ is a movie that tells us what Jesus Christ, the Son Of God, went through for every man and woman on Earth. It shows the courage, bravery, love, and the sacrifice Jesus made so man and woman can be received into Heaven. Mel Gibson showed the world how Jesus suffered for us, to show Jesus' love for us. With every lash from the whip, Jesus showed His love. With every pounding of the nails in His wrists and feet, Jesus showed the faith and the love no man can possibly have. Jesus loves us so much that He suffered more pain than any man has ever felt and died on the cross, our sins nailed with Him, so we can be in Heaven with Him.
People say that this movie was too gory and violent, that Jesus really didn't suffer like in The Passion. They say that no person can survive all of that torture. That the pain was too much and that there was too much blood loss. Well, it says in Isaiah 52:14 that He was so badly beaten that He did not look like a human. Mel Gibson showed us the pain and the humiliation that Christ went through for us nearly 2,000 years ago.
The Passion Of The Christ is, in my opinion, the greatest movie ever made in film history. It has great actors (Jim Caviezel is amazing in this film ), it is highly accurate, has stunning cinematography, overwhelming make-up and special effects, beautiful orchestra, and shows us the true meaning of love. Mel Gibson is a wonderful director and will be rewarded in Heaven for making this movie. Thank you, Mel, for helping me rededicate my life to my Lord Jesus Christ and making my faith stronger. This movie has changed my life. Thank You!!!

Best Volume....evah!

It's a sad thing that this is the final DVD of Excel Saga, but I have to say that it couldn't have ended more perfect. Everything that has happened in the last 21 episodes just comes crashing all together within the first 4 episodes on this disc. Now truth be told, this wasn't the funniest volume they have had, but it had the best storyline of them all. Now, I must say that the very last episode, #26, the episode that wasn't allowed on TV has to be, by far, THE BEST EPISODE EVER! It is the funniest episode that has been made. Totally the humor of the first 2 DVD's. That episode is basically a mix of comedy and hentai, therefore making it the best episode of Excel Saga. If you watch it, you'll understand why it wasn't allowed on TV...
