The Shawshank Redemption - movie DVD cover picture

Never before have I seen a movie that is so profoundly human. The Shawshank Redemption is not just about people in prison but about people in general. It is a celebration of the human spirit and that great thing that we have called hope.
Do yourselves a favour and watch this movie. Let it inspire you; let it make you laugh; let it make you cry; and most importantly let it help you fathom the power of hope.
If this movie does not make you feel something special inside then I don't know what will.

This was the most imaginative movie released in a long time.

I loved this movie. It was full of energy, comedy, romance, adventure and a lot more. It was a wonderful and imaginative concept to show someone unknowingly on television for his whole life but he's the only one who doesn't know. The acting was great and the production was just as spectacular. Everyone that worked on this movie should be very proud. My only disappointment was that there were not any awards given to the show. I haven't seen such an original concept presented so well in a very long time. I believe everyone that worked on this film deserves a big HOORAY!! Thanks for a great film.

WOW! Nice transfer to DVD

I expected the picture quality to be crap but I was surprised at the quality. You can see every strand of gorgeous hair and Jayne Kennedy's gorgeous head. The picture quality is WAY better than the VHS. Seems like when MGM releases old movies they dont play around. Not only does this movie have the unbelievably gorgeous Jayne Kennedy but it also has Playboy playmates Roseanna Katon and Azizi Johari. What a treat for the eyes! :D

Distilled essence of Eurosleaze

This is my favorite Naschy flick. It's a total boobfest, in every sense of the term. It splices together every Eurohorror cliche (including some choice topless scenes and bad dubbing) into a really fun mess! Example: On the way to a remote castle, our heros are stopped in their cars by a group of highwaymen who intend to rob them. BUT a group of vigilantes from the town catch up with the robbers at that moment, hanging them from a near-by tree. Feeling awkward, our heros leave, continuing towards the castle. This scene doesn't appear to relate to anything else in the movie. Bunuel would have been proud of Carlos Aured.

Negative five stars!

Welcome to Paradigm City

Welcome to Paradigm City, a city of Amnesia, named after Paradigm, the company that is both Church and State in the City. Forty years ago something happened, something that wiped out the memories of everyone in the city and the history of what happened before. As far as anyone knows, Paradigm City is the last city on earth. Paradigm is also a city divided, the rich and the lucky live in climate controled domes, while the poor and less fortunate live in the rundown buildings outside the domes.
One of those living outside of the Domes is Roger Smith, The Negotiator. Roger is part PI, part trouble shooter, part crime fighter and part playboy. He is a man of Honor, respected for his dedication and his honesty. Once he takes a job, he sees it throught to the end. In his black doublebreasted suits and black sunglasses Roger stands out in any crowd and exudes a sense of professionalism. For Roger, the job is not about money, but is about people. His respectful and humane approach to his assignments and the people he is dealing with, makes him even more likable and often gives him an edge in facing what is to come. Lately his life has been complicated by two ladies.
Dorothy Wainwright, aka R Dorothy Wainwright. Dorothy is an android, created in the image of the real Dorothy by her father, complete with her memories. She is far more than a machine but less than human. How much less then human, is a question that both Roger and the audience are often left pondering. From kidnap victim, to client, to Roger's assistant, she becomes a big part of Roger's life in a very short time. Their relationship is fun to watch and leaves you wanting more. Especially as Dorothy asks Roger some tough questions about life and love.
Angel, the other woman complicating Rogers life. A name changing mystery woman, she quietly moves up in the ranks of Paradigm. She hires Roger to negotiate the reopening of a power plant in 'Electric City'. After completing her mission, she tells Roger to call her 'Angel'. Her past, her purposes, her goals are all a mystery. When she appears in Roger's life, it means nothing but trouble for him and Big O.
Norman Burg, A Gentleman's Gentleman and Roger's chief keeper. Norman maintains both Roger's House and 'Big O'. It is Norman, who presents Dorothy to Roger as his new assistant and is happy to have her help in taking care of 'Master Roger'.
Major Dan Dastun is Roger's friend and former commander. Roger goes to him for information, from time to time. He is dedicated to protecting all of Paradigm City and hates it when 'Big O' dukes it out with an opponent, because of the devasation the battles leave in their wake.
'Big O' is a Megadeus class Attack Robot, piloted by Roger Smith. Big, Black, armed with an array of weapons and a devastating 1-2 punch, compliments of the piledrivers in it's arms. Big O is impressive. It's literally groundbreaking entrances are thanks to an underground train that delivers it to the site of the battle and then brings it home. The battles are waged without the silliness of other shows. There is no prancing, no posturing, no transformations or evolving into a new forms during the battles. Just hard hitting and fast paced action, with the battles being won through a combination Big O's strenght and toughness and Roger's skill, cunning and determination. Together, Roger and Big O stand in defense of Paradigm City, protecting it from criminals, mutant monsters, rogue robots, mad scientists and mad men.
From the start, Big O's visual style, mood setting music and style of story telling, grabs the viewers and draws them into the world of Paradigm City. This is a show that appeals to the kid inside of all of us and is just plain fun to watch.

A Beautiful Mind (Full Screen Awards Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
This film is just beautiful. Actors playing excellence.

Interesting story, whether accurate or not. Excellent acting by Crowe, Connelly and, as always, Ed Harris. Way too long, the story could have been adequately & eloquently told in under 2 hours.
And the music! The entire viewing experience would have been more captivating and less maudlin with an occasional change in tempo. I found myself thinking too often "I got the point half an hour ago, move on."
Too bad. I really like Ron Howard movies, appreciate a good story, and such outstanding acting is not to be overlooked or undermined. My recommendation is to make sure you are in a very patient frame of mind when you head out the door to see this one. You will be glad you didn't waste your movie money on a mindless action film or one of the ever-prevalent animated adventures, but this movie may put you in the mood to see another movie!
Sorry, Opie.

Refreshing new songs and great learning concepts

I'm a huge fan of the Richard Scarry DVDs and videos, and this one is certainly amongst my favourites. It is delightful to learn and sing some new songs with my 15 month all that can teach her about opposites, the alphabet, counting and shapes. The tunes are catchy, the music is appealing and the lyrics are well sung. Very sweet and simple, perfect for toddlers! I don't see myself getting sick of this video any time soon, whereas if I hear "Wheels on the Bus" and "Old McDonald" one more time....

Brilliant all around

I am not sure why most are calling this movie a comedy. While it does have its humorous moments, the film is more a drama than anything. Murray deserved the Golden Globe he received as did Coppala. Superb film. Such emotion between the characters and the environment around them...just a great film.

Thank you Mr. been27

I glad there is someone besides me that is fed up with the insufferable bores who automatically think a film is "intellectual" because it is made anywhere but the USA. In their eyes America can do no right. My other pet peave is the wide screen snobs and their utter distain for any film offered in full frame.

Can't wait for episode Three

My brother works at a movie theater so if he still works there when e3 comes out he promised that he could get me in for a screening the day before it's supposed to come out. I can't wait because I know for a fact that this movie will be massively good. How do I know this? Two words: George Lucas. If george Lucas is involved it has to be good. But anyways this is a review for AOTC. This movie, just like Phantom menace, was beautiful. It makes me feel good to live in a world where Star wars movies are accessible at any time. I loved every Star wars movie and I am sure I will love e3.
