A must see dvd before you see Reloaded and Revolutions

A majority of people thinks Reloaded and Revolutions' story is weak. This is simply because a lot of plots are not there, but here, in Animatrix and in Enter the Matrix. There are several links from here to the movies. I wish there is a trivia for this, I can think of a bit more than a dozen.
Final Flight of the Osiris brings about the first level of Enter the Matrix. It is the crew of the Osiris who sacrifice their lives to inform Zion about the machines' movement. This one links to Reloaded and Enter the Matrix. The CG of this episode is welly done, the coloring and character modelling are almost at the same level as Final Fantasy - the Spirit WIthin.
Kid's Story - This one is about the so-called self-substantiation(also refered in World Record) of Mr. Popper, who is afterwards refered as the kid in the movies. His role in the movie is a disciple and true believer of Neo, the One, the Savior, the Massiah, Jesus. He is often misunderstood as an extra jarjarbink-like character in the movie, but he is definitely not. In the movies, he made references to both his own words here in this episode and another one from another episode(Beyond). The drawing here is also significant. It uses a draft-like style, used to represent dreams in many anime in the 60's and 70's. Also, during the chase, characters are twisted, torn, rendered into random forms to represent chaos, irrational, unreal, imaginary, etc.
Detective's Story - This probably happens before the Neb crew found Neo. This episode used a grey-scale coloring, featuring a mixture of old and new technologies. Reminding the audience that this is the Matrix. This also reveals the desire of human-being to know the truth(Beyond also talks about this)
World Record - Spoke about self-substantiation, the time-line basically happens in a few seconds, but showing the Dan's memory. This episode shows us that those who realize the Matrix, their will and desire to be freed. Like the Kid's Story, it twisted the character into a random shape to express the idea of chaos.
The Second Renaissance (Parts 1 and 2) - These two episodes refer to the birth of the matrix, also refered as the Genesis of Matrix. It reveals many arguments exists nowadays about the development of true AI. This issue is pretty controversial, but the brothers obviously think that AI robots also deserves respect. This episode is a turn point of good and evil in the whole Matrix idea: it is human who started the war (the elimination of B166ER's kind) and the first side to ask for peace is the machine.
Program - This episode reminds us of the idea "Ignorance is bliss." Cypher, who betrayed the Neb, is also mentioned here. The drawings are great and full of direction and momentum. My favourite part is the zoom-out near the end of the episode.
Matriculated - This one refers to the possible of the existence of love in machine/program. This lies a clear plot to Rama Kandra's love to Sati and Kamala in Revolutions. This episode is the most complicated episodes in the collection. Few of the scenes are hard to understand their purpose unless you spend time to think about it. Anyways, this episode is the deepest of all.
Generally speaking, each of these episodes cannot stand alone by itself. They are connected somehow together with the movies. Each episode is drawn in different styles: full CG, Computer Assisted animating, hand-draft, Japanese Anime, etc. All those who oppose Reloaded and Revolutions must see these movies and this review, for this anime is also a crucial element in the series.

A very intimate setting.. and great sound

I have seen some of DB's performances on TV and video before (never have had the lucky chance of seeing him live) and the past couple of live performances I have seen DB on TV have been very good.. I mean stellar.

So, I made my mind up that I was going to wait until a new DB Live DVD came out so I could at least hear the most recent (and wonderful) band backing him.. and lets face it, DB has had various, different, lineups behind him the past 15 years... some very good, some very 'different' but all DB.

When I saw this particular DVD, I grabbed it and it is really a great package. I got it for under 10 bucks (Target anyone?) and the songs sound great (I won't go into each song since there are a ton of them) but the band really is great and DB sounds fantastic.

The reason for writing this review is simple... DB has been around a long time, and if you want an older package of him, go get a different DVD, this is of his most recent tour, with most recent band. If you have some older DVD's of DB and want a newer one of him performing some of his newer material (heathen/newkillerstar/reality are done fantastically) this is the DVD for you.

And lets face it... you get a 30 song DVD for under 10 bucks? Where can you do that?

One note, MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD is done wonderfully, and DB had not done this song live for quite some time. It sounds just superb.

Have Fun!

The most fun muppet movie yet...

I saw this when it came out in the theater (afternoon showing) and it was packed with kids. There was plenty for the kids and adults to enjoy, although it seemed to be at different points. My girlfriend and I could hardly stay in our seats from laughing so hard. To those that say there is not a positive message in this compared to other (read: older) Henson films, I have to disagree. Some complain that there are not musical numbers - those were the parts that I could do without as a kid, and even moreso as an adult. My sister and her daughter both loved this movie. I consider this to be better that many of the muppet movies out there (definitely better than Treasure Island). The only part I would change in this movie is Hulk Hogan's (thankfully brief) completely over the top cameo. Relax, kick up the Home Theater a knotch and let the good times (and good music) roll!

It's Like No Other Movie

This is a highly unusual comedy. I distinctly remember laughing hysterically when I saw it for the first time in a theater in 1968. In terms of irreverence, it may compare to the Marx Brothers, but there is otherwise no similarity to anything else. I bought this tape so my family would have the proper mindset and background knowledge prior to seeing the stage version in New York. It's hard to imagine or describe, but they actually do the full "Springtime for Hitler" number on stage, and it's even funnier than the movie. But see the movie.

Why the ?Family Guy? is terminated?

Only people who have something to say need freedom of speech. Depriving us, Americans, the proud nation of any part of this freedom is as bad as taking homes and lives away from people in, say, Africa. Why the "Family Guy" is terminated? Who did it? You can teach a monkey to fly to the moon, you cannot teach it to laugh of make funny jokes. For ones we got something truly funny on TV. Some refuge from the un-memorizeable shows with featureless characters. Write to your senator and point to the fact of censorship. Who is there to decide which TV shows are good or bad for us? Elected officials, or market? Senator Joseph McCarthy.

"Woe...woe...woe is me..."

Having seen both the originals and the "remakes" of two of my favorite horror films - "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and now "Dawn of the Dead", I have to say that I do not try to compare the new to the old. I LOVE what Zack Snyder did with DOTD. Those opening credits with Johnny Cash singing his apocalyptic "When The Man Comes Around" over all those quick-cut scenes of mayhem and horror were amazing. Right up there with the opening credits for "Seven" in originality. I wish there was a soundtrack as the music in the film was amazing. I was particularly taken with the brief bit of "The Hangman's Song" that was used during the scene where the survivors are reinforcing the mall trams. Very eerie little song. While not the most fleshed-out characters, the cast was excellent, particularly Ving Rhames and Jake Weber (and I wonder if any horror buffs noticed that two of the survivors in DOTD - Kevin Zegars and Lindy Booth - were the first victims in "Wrong Turn" [another enjoyable horror movie]). The zombies were horrifying and while Romero's shambling, rotting corpses had their own brand of "charm", Snyder's quick-moving/running zombies were a scare of a different color. And contrary to some other reviews, there was at least one scene where we get to "enjoy" one zombie dining on another (in the backroom of the sporting goods store). So while there were no steaming entrails, there was plenty of rot, gore, graphic "head hits", etc. - everything this reviewer enjoys in a good horror movie.

Way to go, Zack!

A Christmas Story (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
A seasonal Christmas classic

This is a collection of tales as they are recollected by a person thinking back on their childhood one Christmas. It has all the exudations with its ups and downs.

Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) spots a "Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB" rifle with compass, in the window of a story and fantasizes on how to get it for Christmas. Will he succeed? And if so will he shoot his eye out?

I had one of those Davie Crocket hats when I was a kid. There were lots of other items and actions that I could relate to. However my wife likes the watering method used by Melinda Dillon (mother) around the trophy. And she likes the way the mother conserved electricity by turning it off. I could see her snickering through the corner of my eye. I am not sure I should have bought this one. It may prove fatal to any window plans.

A not on aspect ratio:
There are several aspect ratios and the term wide screen vs. full screen does not begin to address the various widths. And the width is important in many cases however it has no bearing on the number of stars given for the content of the movie. Most sources say that this product was released with 1.85:1 ratio.

There was a remake of "A Christmas Story" floating around but it lacks a lot of the originality of this one.

A simply stunning video. Do NOT watch this unless you are fully prepared to throw your evolutions beliefs out the window. Christian scientists have oft said that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than God, and this video reveals why! That said, this video does not discuss God in any way, it is pure science from absolute leaders in the field.

Lots of Fun!!

Bought this video for my daughters, but found that I really enjoyed it also. A.J. "hosts" the video. He has a great sense of humour. It was a lot of fun watching the making of some of their music videos. Parents: Here's a group you can feel good about your kids getting into. You might find you enjoy them too!
