Army Scouts & Apache Warriors

This 1953 western movie is an excellent movie for its time and for all time.

The script is based on W. R. Burnett's hardcover novel, ADOBE WALLS, published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1953. The western novel by Burnett is loosely based on the life of Albert Seiber exemplar frontiersman and U.S. Army Scout in Arizona Territory during the Apache Wars of the 1880s. Much of the happenings are true to the time and true also to Al Seiber's life.

Whether one cares for this movie or not, and judging by the first two reviews here they don't, any film of historical background is noteworthy. While it is true the film takes much dramatic license in many ways, if one reads on the west these items are easily spotted and do not get in the way of enjoying the movie.

The setting of the movie is realistic and the use of old Fort Davis adds an aura of authenticity to the location shots. It was acceptable in those 1950 days to have non-Indians portray Indians, and at times Hollywood dared to change history. But in many respects true lore comes through in this movie, for example, the Ghost dance with its expectation of a 'messiah' to lead in the extermination of the white man, and dancing to make the Indians impervious to bullets, and the attempt to dance back the bison and the good times, all have their basis in historical fact.

The plot also involves double dealing by some Apache Scouts, and while most were very trustworthy, a few were not and some ending up being hung. The Apache Kid turned renegade and was able to elude capture, with no white ever knowing how he ended up. Even the attempt to relocate the Apache out of the territory to Florida did in fact occur. So while there is much fiction in this movie, there is also much fact.

If one has some knowledge of the west, or just plain enjoys an interesting movie of the west, the viewer should do 'ok' watching it.

But again, as evidenced by the first two reviews here, a movie sometimes just doesn't meet everyone's expectations.

I Love This Movie

This movie is really good. It is like Cinderella yet different. The story of this movie is really good and well throught up. One part that I find wierd is the part with Leodardo da Vinci and how he relates in the story it is a little wired, but don't get me wrong he is a great charactor and adds humor to the story. Drew Barrymore acts wonderfully in the Middle Ages backgroud with all the elegent clothing. Angelica Huston is also a great charactor playing the evil step mother and having a world of her own. This movie is a sad someparts throughout the movie, but over all this is a great movie and I think you should see it today.

Dog the Bounty Hunter - The Best of Season 1 - movie DVD cover picture
An Awesome DVD!! Dog The Bounty Hunter Rules!!

Dog the bounty hunter is the best show on TV today! The DVD of his greatest exploits is simply awesome too! Believe you me: You haven't seen or heard The Dog until you've seen and heard him in DVD quality!

Duane "Dog" Chapman is a truly good man! I really admire the way he does his best to fight crime by taking down the fugitives, and also to further fight crime by attempting to change their ways.

It may not work every time, but if you only changed one life, then you have accomplished something wonderful! And I am sure he has changed many lives!

Sure there will always be losers like Lyin' "Ryan" and "Mr. Pathetic" (who not only can't write a decent review but they probably also sleep with a nite-lite!) but it doesn't matter what a couple of fools think, because the Dog wasn't born the world's greatest and most famous bounty hunter... he came from nothing and raised himself to where he is today! He overcame all obstacles thrown in his way, and made it to the top of his chosen profession! And he is also a great role model for young and old alike!

The "Dog" is a real life super hero!!

May he and his wonderful show enjoy many more years of continued success!!

Rock on Dog!!

Pretty in Pink - movie DVD cover picture
For mainstream--it's critical! Hughes' best ever!

In the 1980's U.S., of course teen flicks were the rage, and who other than John Hughes would bring it to us? While Reaganism saturated politics and conservative notions of a "classless" society were rapidly being thrown about, Pretty in Pink arrived. Although all of Hughes' teen-angst films of the 80's dealt with class issues in the predominantly white high schools of the U.S., Pretty in Pink demonstrates the most critical viewpoint of class, consumerism, capitalism, and how they all affect the high school hierarchy of popularity in suburban and more small town schools in the U.S. in comparison to its contemporaries like Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, or 16 Candles. Pink's main character, Andi, is a young woman from a lower-working class, single parent household. She is academically robust, semi-financially independent, creative and thrifty, and assertive. She doesn't try to "play the game" of the "richies," as she calls them, and rather, she stands up for herself and her friends in the face of "benevolent" middle to upperclass school administrators (read: the principal), smitten and haughty female classmates (read: benny and her friends), and exploitive and egotistical male classmates (read: Stef). Her relationship with Blane is something which she takes with a grain of salt, and while she feels great affection for Blane, she is frank about her personal boundaries of acceptable behavior and treatment. Thus, from a feminist perspective, Andi is a welcome young female character in the 80's Hollywood theatre which usually provides female characters so constructed by dominant ideologies that they no longer differ from each other, and become a token image (for example, the main character in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun or Cindy's friends in the film Can't Buy Me Love). While the film is not immune from this tokenism, it offers definite progress in comparison to the aforementioned examples. The film also takes a different approach to the then increasing "phenomenon" of the single-parent household (which was/is usually headed by the mother), in the fact that Andi's father runs the household. While he struggles with his wife's abandonment, this seems to heavily influence his ambition to "find a job." While this issue is not awarded much complexity in the film, it is at least mentioned, and hopefully encourages viewers to critically discuss this situation outside of the film. For a mainstream film, Pretty in Pink offers many alternatives to the popular films so-far of 1998. Rather uninterrogated images of class differences and class oppression like those seen in Titanic or in Clueless provide a surface critique of class hierarchy and how it permeates youth cultures and high school "societies." I recommend Pretty in Pink with the utmost sincerity. While it proves problematic in certain areas, no film exists outside of power structures, culture, or oppression and it is our task as viewers to critically immerse ourselves in discussions of film and cinema. END

Eye opening view of the racisms today

This movie is an amazing film of true, raw, racisim of today. If you are a individual who believes racisim is a problem of the past, watch this movie and see how is can creep into peoples lives and simmer there without even the individual being knowledgeable of what is going on. How we all have stereo-types of not just color, but clothes, jobs, and families. It will make you fear what people are capible of, but also give you hope that things will be better. This movie is a beautiful projection of emotions, trues, fears, and hope all combined into one. This movie will change the way you look at people around you and how you may or may not treat them.

Lovers in a train

This poignant story is told between the WW2 hell . Two strangers who meet casually in a train in the middle of the hopeless , the uncertainess and the agony of an unending war .
I really expect the producers and headquarter who made it possible this transfer , watch carefully the enormous meaning and talent of this french director , who made several important films such as The Chat (Medal silver for best actor to Jaen Gabin 1973) , A etrange affair (Medal silver for best actor to Michel Piccoli 1981) , The veuve Clouderc (Simone Signoret and Alain Delon).
He really deserves this honor .
It's a question of fairness for a worthable career .
Superb performances of Rommy Schneider and Jean Louis Trigtinant .

Judy Davis shines in this movie!!!

I have seen several biography movies about Judy Garland, but this movie is by far the best one I have ever seen. Judy Davis gets JG's mannerism and speech down to a tee. I have been watching Judy Garland's mid 60's television series on dvd this winter, so I have a real point of reference. Believe me if you are a garland fan this is a must see.

Rebel Without a Cause (Single Disc Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Great 50's fun.

This film was first released in 1955 and stars James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo. It was directed by Nicholas Ray and is probably one of the best, and most remembered movies from the 1950's.
"Rebel Without a Cause" begins in the local police station, where Jim (James Dean) has been arrested for drunkeness, Judy (Natalie Wood) has been picked up for walking around before dawn after a fight with her father, and the disturbed Plato (Sal Mineo) has been brought in for killing a puppy. Jim is new to the place (his parents are always moving) and finds it hard to fit in at school. He gets in a fight, which later leads him to have a chicken race with one of the gang bullies. Jim, Judy and Plato are brought back together again at the chicken race, but it ends in trouble. While Jim gets away unharmed, his opponent is killed when he gets caught in the car and goes flying straight off of the cliff. While being chased by the dead boy's friends, Jim, Judy, and Plato end up at a deserted mansion, to hide out, away from their parents and the trouble looking for them out on the streets. But still, it does not end nicely.
The film may seem dated to some people, but it still remains a brilliant movie to a lot of others.
Now for the DVD:The film is presented in widescreen format and the print is brilliant. The sound is in 5.1 Dolby Digital. The extras include Trailers, behind-the-scenes documentary, and a few segments from TV Documentaries with Gig Young, including the 'Drive Safely' interview. Along with a few other little things aswell.
Overall, I think this is an excellent presentation for a great movie and I highly recommend this DVD.

Table Match for the Tag Team Championship
Ric Flair & Batista vs. Dudley Boyz
This is just 5 minutes long! It needed more time but was good for what it was. Kind of a surprise too.

Cruiserweight Championship
Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Noble
Don't blink! Good match but very fast.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero
Very intense. Surprisingly slow in the beginning but it picks up and after the match is great too.

WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar vs. Hardcore Holly
I like how Holly was portrayed leading up to this but going with a regular match wasn't the right way to do it. Not bad but mostly rest holds followed by a quick finish.

Last Man Standing for the World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels
Well these two will always put on good matches. This is no exception.

Royal Rumble Match
This was unpredictable. Some memorable moments too.
