An Awesome movie!

I was absolutely engrossed in this movie, from the opening of the movie when written dialogue tells you that 30,000 out of the 40,000 German u boat young sailors died during World War 2.
I was amazed at how realistic the movie was. The sound and the realism of the u boat was amazing! I felt like I was right their in the boat. At times I was even starting to feel claustrophobic!
The characters of the movie were very likable. I could really emphasize with their fear, intense panic, restlessnes, desperation and hope for survival. I cannot imagine living with the fear of being attacked and dieing 24 hours a day, the way they had to.
This film really showed me how senseless and crazy war is. It was very clear that the Germans in this ship killed only because they had to. They were certainly not ruthless, mechanical killers. They were human beings, with wives and girlfriends. It was not their fault that they were fighting for the wrong side. They were only obeying orders.
About half way through the movie they were given orders to go on what amounted to a 'suicide mission'. The sailors knew this too, but they had no choice. I cannot begin to imagine how it would feel to be sent on a mission that was probably going to kill you.
There is a real surprise ending to this movie.
I watched the 'Directors Cut' version, dubbed in English and I highly reccomend that you see it. I plan on renting the sub titled German version in the near future.

An action-packed sci-fi disaster!

I can't understand all the negative reviews on this movie. I first saw in theaters when i was 9, and I couldn't get enough of it. I begged my parents to take me again and again. And now, I love it just as much. The makers of Godzilla, who also made another notable action movie in '96 with Independence Day, show that you don't need gooey sentamentalism and boring talk to make an action movie (something that the makers of the Hulk need to learn a thing or two about). The story centers on goofy biologist Nick Tatopolus, who is investigating a gigantic monster loose in New York, along with an ex-girlfriend and a smart-aleck newsman. Filled with incredible action, humor, and amazing special effects, Godzilla is pure entertainment for the entire family.

the disk set is fantastic

I have read most of the reviews from other people. Those of you who complained about the sound or picture quality of Goldfinger and Live and Let Die...I have one thing to say. If they sound like they are still in mono it is because stereo was not widely used back then. I imagine if you get any movie originally recorded in mono on DVD it will still be in mono, only played through stereo channeling. I just don't think that those of you who complained about the set, for any reason, can truly call yourselves Bond fans. I am only 25 years old and I know and have seen every James Bond film ever made. No matter the picture or sound quality, for me just to have these movies preserved on DVD is good enough.

this is a real good movie. better than american me in my opinion. when i first bought it i thought it would be okay but it turned out to be better than i thought. its about 2 best friends who turn on eachother after they both get pregnant by tha same drug dealer. after he dies they later realize always choose ur homegirl before any boy. tha story goes on about other events. tha only thing i didnt like about it was that i thought it ended too early. other than that this is a real good movie...

Martin - movie DVD cover picture
One of the Best Vampire Films!

This 1978 gem from director George A. Romero stars John Amplas as Martin. The film focuses on Martin's confusion and torment as he searches for victims to fulfill his hunger for blood. Although, we are never really sure if he is an actual vampire or rather if he is simply delusioned with flash backs he created, which I think is primarily the impression that is hinted through the film. I found this film compelling simply for the fact that it is not the regular gore and violent filled vampire film, but is rather a look into Martin's disturbing mind, and eventually comes out feeling almost like a drama.
If you have never seen Martin, I highly recommend buying this film on DVD. It is well worth the money, and it includes a commentary by the two stars, as well as George A. Romero.

a very clever video.

This is a short video which is early claymation, but still very good quality. It is short, comprised of three stories. It is very professional and discerning parents (and librarians) should appreciate it. This is one of my kids' favorites.

great movie

I really can't understand how people see this movie as being "incoherent" or "boring". Maybe I've seen too many mst3k movies...now those, THOSE movies that are riffed are incoherent! Plain and simple it's a yakuza movie, there, was that so incoherent? I just saw it on IFC and I loved it. I personally enjoyed Tokyo Drifter more, I really dug the groovy music. And artsy...you haven't seen artsy until you've seen the skateboard video memory screen. They take artsy over the top; of the 44 minutes about 5 minutes is actual skateboarding the rest is weird random images but still good. And boring...at least to me it was boring is Gerry -- it's just walking in the desert. Maybe not boring to others but it was just too much for me. Anyways Branded To Kill and Tokyo Drifter are great movies and not at all boring.

Buy This DVD!

I really don't know what the other reviewers were talking about. I own a PS2 and the Escaflowne DVD's work just fine on my player. With that said I'll continue my review. I absolutly love this show, it is a must see for any anime fan. this show has everything, great fights, romance, drama, mystery, and even a little humor. All the characters are great, there is not one I don't like, even the "bad guys." I haven't seen the fifth DVD yet but im sure it will be just as great as the others. The last episode's cliffhanger left me wanting more. What's going to happen to Van? Anyway this is a great show that everyone can enjoy. my little brother likes it and i didn't think i could get him to watch anything but Pokemon. So buy this DVD! There is even a plus for the girls...plenty of hot anime guys!

Jailhouse Rock - movie DVD cover picture
In Jailhouse Rock Elvis was everything rockabilly's about;

living fast, dying young, and leaving a good-looking corpse. That is the opening line from 'True Romance,' and I couldn't have put it any better myself. Elvis' best movie and one of the best ever. If you ever wondered why Elvis was so big, watch this movie. He defines cool. I went on an Elvis kick and watched a bunch of them. When I got to this one, I couldn't believe how good it was. It's not cheesy happy-go-lucky like most Elvis movies. It's got heart. The music is great and Elvis' performance combines Michael Jackson's dance moves with James Dean's attitude, only he did it first. He's a rebel who plays by his own rules. This is one of the most underrated movies ever. It's never mentioned when the best movies are discussed, but it definitely should be. If you miss when rock was still rock, you'll love this movie.
