A lot better than the first

I saw 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' the first night it came out in theatres. I obviously had high expectations as it is an excellent book and they had to make it an excellent movie. I saw the first movie, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone' and enjoyed it, but this was seriously twice as good. I didn't think the book was twice as good as the first, but they really made the movie good.
The effects were as good as ever. The Quidditch match was excellent, Dobby was funny, the giant spiders, the slugs coming out of Ron's mouth, the flying car, the snake, the willow tree, the mandrakes, all very good.
I thought the beginning was funny because Harry was so much bigger than the first, and Ron's voice had broken, but I got used to it. I also couldn't help laughing when I saw Draco Malfoy. I know he' supposed to be mean, but what's wrong with Draco's hair? Another amusing scene was when Crabbe and Goyle just happened to see some food floating in the air and they eat it. Ron's wand backfiring also made me laugh.
The movie was also better because in the previous movie, I noticed a lot of scenes being cut out, especially in the beginning but it was not the case in this movie.
Finally, Richard Harris as Albus Dumbledore who recently died played an excellent part. He was an excellent Dumbledore, and I doubt the next one will be as good.
Overall, I loved 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' and everyone should see it because it's a great movie that nobody should miss. 5 stars definitely.
Also, stay until after the end credits for guarenteed laughs.

Animal House Will Make You Shout

Animal House is the wacky tale of the Delta fraternity at Faber College that just doesn't seem to fit in. Instead of having sophisticated dinners with their pledges, they decide to throw a huge party and basically if you show up, you are in. Once you pledge Delta however, you need to watch out because these guys could get you in a lot of trouble: from stealing meat from a grocery store, getting you in trouble with the dean, angering your ROTC leader, forcing you to steal your brother's car, and ruin the homecoming parade. If you can't keep up, it's better for you to find a frat that is a little more refined than this group of delinquents. This movie is a non-stop laugh fest in which you better not eat or drink because you will end up choking or spitting it back out. A definite must see every week or so because you will never believe what these guys will do for a good time and it causes you to have one as well. When it comes to showing Animal House at parties there is almost no competition because partying is all that the guys in Delta want to do. I haven't met a person that didn't like Animal House and if I ever do I would automatically assume they are a nerd because that means they either have no sense of humor or don't like to have fun.

The Night of the Hunter

The Film is sensational! My 13 year old daughter LOVES this film. We watch it every time it airs. The contrast between the tough loving Lillian Gish and the schizophrenic Robert Mitchum make this film very entertaining. It is simplistic in the symbolisms but terrifying in the manner it is presented. My children cheer for Gish when she shoots at the psychotic Mitchum. And they have never forgotten the eerie way Mitchum sings his call to the "children". They remember the movie by that sing-song call. It is such a delight to see my children watch and "old" black and white movie with such involvement. It is truly a classic and I wish it had been nominated for an award. The performances of all involved should be applauded. Great movie!

Understanding the Golf Swing: The DVD - movie DVD cover picture

I?found?it interesting that the DVD was rated either 1 or 5 by other reviewers. I think de la Torre is challenging us to see the power of simplicity. And that too much mechanics might be a bad thing. So that might go to explain the differences in opinion on this one.
It appears that de la Torre's concepts have proven themselves over six decades and stand unchanged.? I think de la Torre makes it clear that when golf gets simpler, I'll get better faster and have fewer things to think about when on the course. I have read the book by de la Torre and think the DVD works well as a complement to the book. I encourage?others to view the DVD ?with an eye to the truth in simplicy that is offered. And by the way the idea that my body is more a follower than an initiator of the action was a real eye-opener for me and my game.

I side with those who rated five! ?

This movie rocked! I saw it a few years ago, and it was great! It is a mockery of Star Wars, Star Trek, the mob, pizza, and much more! It is about the kidnapping of Princess Vespa, who is like leia. After Lone Star and Barf, the mockeries of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca, save her from the spaceballs, they have to stop them from stealing all the oxygen from Vespa's home planet. Rick Moranis is hilarious as Dark Helmet, who is a short guy that only takes off his helmet when no one's looking. Mel Brooks, as Yogurt, the Spaceballs merchandiser, is very funny. I cannot possibly explain how funny this movie is in 1,000 words. But if you want to laugh like crfazy, buy it!

Excellent DVD Set

When I first saw Sports Night offered on DVD, I was reminded of the frustration of trying to find the day and timeslot in which this show was going to be on in any particular week (due to the scheduling madness of ABC management). It was worth the chase. Now it's on my shelf, screw the network, and I watch it often and whenever I want.
It is one of the 10 best series television has offered yet. and we're out.....

You'll leave wanting more!

I also came by this DVD by accident when it was sent to me as a present. I watched it in two sittings. The drama is very intriguing and engrossing. This is not Jane Austen: If you are at all prudish you won't enjoy this as it deals with adult situations. I can't wait to see Series Two.

A Friendly Reminder

There are actually two "The Gods Must be Crazy" not one. The first film is crazy fun, but the second film is even crazier. I have seem them both and it would be a great pity if only the first film became available on DVD. The 2nd sequel of the the same title is even funnier - if that is possible. So, now you know and Amazon has to get BOTH films.

Galaxy Quest - DTS - movie DVD cover picture
"By Grabthar's hammer, you shall be avenged!"

In December of 1999, director Dean Parisot unleashed what is arguably the funniest sci-fi/comedy film of all time, "Galaxy Quest", which focuses upon the dissatisfied lives of five actors who had starred in a long-cancelled sci-fi television series of the same name. Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen) played ship's captain Commander Peter Quincey Taggart. Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver, who is no stranger to sci-fi with her roles in the "Alien" films) played Lt. Madison. Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman, also known for his roles as Hans Gruber in the 1988 film "Die Hard" and Professor Snape in the two "Harry Potter" films) played Dr. Lazarus. Fred Kwan (Tony Shalhoub) played ship's engineer Tech Sgt. Chen and Tommy Webber (Daryl Mitchell) played ship's pilot Laredo. Following the cancellation of the TV series, none of the actors had found descent acting jobs. Instead, they were relegated to appearing occasionally as their former "Galaxy Quest" characters at fan conventions and infrequent commercials. Especially frustrated is Alexander Dane, a trained Shakespearean actor who cannot escape the stigma of having said those immortal words, "By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!"
The film begins at a "Galaxy Quest" convention where the quintet is preparing to appear. Unbeknownst to them, not all of the conventioneers dressed as aliens are pretending. A group of uniformed "aliens" approach Jason (dressed as Commander Taggart) saying that they are in dire need of his assistance. Jason quickly agrees and assumes that the group is planning to pay him to appear as Commander Taggart at a fan-function. Following a night of drinking at his home, the "aliens" arrive in a limousine (per Jason's request) to escort him to their function. The "aliens", calling themselves Thermians, are Mathesar (Enrico Colantoni), Teb (Jed Rees) and Laliari (Missi Pyle). While en route to their function, Teb recites the lengthy history of Thermia to Jason, but Jason (who has a hangover) falls asleep. (Jason doesn't take the Thermians seriously; instead believing that they are simply "Galaxy Quest" fans.) Jason awakens to what he believes is a very elaborate set mimicking the NSEA Protector from the "Galaxy Quest" show. Mathesar (who always refers to Jason as Commander Taggart) tells him that the Thermians want him to negotiate a peace treaty with General Sarris (Robin Sachs). Instead, "Commander Taggart" orders the Thermians to fire upon Sarris' ship. Assuming that he has completed his performance, Jason tells Mathesar that he is ready to return home. Mathesar escorts him to an empty room and leaves. Jason, not understanding what is happening, is suddenly enveloped within a strange substance and raised to the ship's exterior where he sees millions of stars in deep space. He is suddenly shot from the ship, then finds himself standing next to his swimming pool at home. Jason finally realizes that the Thermians are real extraterrestrials, and that they mistakenly regard the "Galaxy Quest" show (which they received in deep space) as being historical fact.
The other four "Galaxy Quest" actors are busy filming a commercial for the opening of an electronics store and are disgusted because Jason isn't there. Jason arrives late and tells them about his experience with the Thermians, but they think he has lost his mind. Jason tells them that the Thermians want him to return and that he wants them to come also. They initially reject it, but change their minds when they mistakenly believe that it's a paying job. Gwen, Alexander, Fred and Tommy are whisked away to the Thermian's NSEA Protector, along with another actor named Guy Fleegman (Sam Rockwell), who had played a bit part on the original "Galaxy Quest" show. With that, the most important role for each of the washed up "Galaxy Quest" actors begins!
Dean Parisot, along with writers David Howard and Robert Gordon, created a brilliant and engaging spoof of the show "Star Trek", its conventions and trekkies with "Galaxy Quest". Tim Allen equated with William Shatner (Kirk), Alan Rickman with Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Sigourney Weaver with Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), Tony Shalhoub with James Doohan (Scotty) and Daryl Mitchell with George Takei (Sulu). Other sci-fi comedy spoof that predate "Galaxy Quest" (such as "Ice Pirates", "Pluto Nash" and "Spaceballs") are no where near as good, engaging or funny.
All of the actors in "Galaxy Quest" performed their roles exceptionally well. Two actor who played significant minor roles were Patrick Breen, who played the Thermian named Quelleck, and Jeremy Howard, who played the young and very helpful "Galaxy Quest" fan named Kyle.
I highly recommend purchasing "Galaxy Quest" on DVD, which has superior picture and sound quality, and includes several deleted scenes, trailers, biographies, the feature "On Location in Space" and production notes. "Galaxy Quest" is a film that can be watched many times while never becoming tiresome. Sit back and remember those immortal words, "Never give up! Never surrender!" as you are whisked away into the fantastic world of "Galaxy Quest"!
