A great movie

The Harry Potter books are wonderful. I like action and adventure books and Harry Potter is sure that kind of a book. J. K. Rowling did a great job on books 1-4. The author put in a lot of fanasty into books 1-3. I must say that in book 3 was really great because, that's when Harry finds out that he has a godfather and Hagrid had a hippogriff named Buckbeak, who is a half eagle and half horse. Well that's for now.

Flawless and memorable musical

Anna, a widowed schoolteacher, takes the job of teaching the children of the King of Siam. Several things ensue: a battle of wills between Anna and the King, that eventually turns into mutual respect, admiration, and possible-but-unrequited romance; the children learn and flourish; the King grows in knowledge and wisdom; Anna goes a long way toward healing her grief.

I am not generally a fan of musicals, but four factors make this movie great:

1. While Yul Brunner, as the King, never was a great musical talent, he defined this role for most viewers, and his career was, at least partially, made and defined by it. He radiates pride, power, style, grace, intelligence, confidence, respect, a demand for respect, and a definite touch of arrogance. His fluidity of movement reminded me of a friend of mine, who has a black belt in Aikido and never falters or stumbles or wastes a movement. Few actors or actresses had as much stage presence as did Yul Brunner in this film.

2. Deborah Kerr, as Anna, starts the film looking composed, guarded, by-the-book, closed, proper, and elegant. As Anna grows, and heals, she blossoms into a worthy adversary to, and companion for, the King. Kerr accepts the challenge to match Brunner, eye-to-eye, and does it, calmly, quietly, and definitively.

3. The music fits the film and the story perfectly, with several memorable songs, most notably, "Shall We Dance?" (an invitation mixed with a challenge) and "Hello, Young Lovers".

4. The setting is quite exotic and colorful. I do not, and cannot, know how authentic it is.

What made me want to review this now is that a production of "The King and I" came to town, and I recalled the film as vividly as if I had seen it yesterday, when it has actually been about five years.

An excellent set

I only became interested in the Buffy shows recently, so finding this set was like discovering buried treasure. I've seen the occasional early episode in re-runs, but I wasn't always sure what was going on. Now, however, I am able to watch the episodes from the beginning, in the linear order that they were designed to be viewed. Maybe there aren't as many extras in this set as in some other DVDs, but I didn't buy it for the extras. I bought it for the well-written episodes that it contains. There was only one complaint that I have regarding this set - the episode titles aren't printed on the disks, which makes it harder to find a particular episode. Fortunately, they corrected this mistake in the season 2 set. All in all, however, this is a terrific addition to my DVD collection.

Worth Buying!!!

This movie was so fun for my entire family. Probably the most enjoyable movie of the year. The storyline was very solid and the characters were captivating. I laughed out loud while watching this film and you will too. This is a must buy for a Jack Nicholson fan and for any fan of excellent comedy that actually has an excellent storyline to go along with the laughs.

Absorbing and memorable satire

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro have their most under rated teaming here. The film had some scenes that I felt were perhaps more disturbing than those in the infamous Taxi Driver, just in the how originally twisted the lead's methods become.
De Niro is struggling nobody/comic Rupert Pupkin (if you define struggling as a man who talks to cardboard pictures of Liza Minelli and other celebtiries in his basement, working on his dialogue on a show he plans to get on), who stalks a comic and celebrity personality Jerry Longford (Jerry Lewis gives his most straightforward work here) to get a spot on his show. When Pupkin fails at his attempts, he goes for the desperate approach and kidnaps him. Startling most of the way, but it is the climax which will arouse audiences to be stunned from the irony in the tie in- "better to be king for a day than a shmuck for a lifetime".
One of the best Scorsese works (but of course, there are so many great ones, it's not fair to compare); he appears briefly as a director from the talk show. A few members of the punk group the Clash appear as street gawkers. By the way, considering how pestering Sandra Bernhard can get in stand-up and in appearances, she actually gave a fine breakthrough here.

Eagles Still Rock!

After viewing the program on TV, I have to say it was the best concert I've seen the Eagles perform. It was great to re-live their best hits and hear the newer ones... this is a MUST HAVE!

I love this tape...

I first tried Pilates and Yoga with a Denise Austin's version of it. I had no clue how bad that tape was until I tried this one! The instructor is good at demonstrating, the exercises are great! I just LOVE this tape. When I finished this tape I immediately sold my denise tape on an online auction!

Very good but not the best one

So the masters are back, that's great. Depeche Mode show 20 years after their first live concert that they're still the best live act in the world ever. Dave, the frontman, gives the audience energy, Martin, gives soul and Fletch sound. Such songs like "When te body speaks" and "Waiting for the night"take us back to the earlier black Depeche, but It's no good and I feel you let us see a bit of light among the black clouds.Although it isn't in the same league as Devotional, this live concert has enough quality to be the best one in the year 2001.

Get's even better with time

As evident by my sign-on name, I am a long-time fan of this series - and a long-time fan of Alan Alda in TV and Film.

This season has some of my favorite episodes! Some of the standouts are Period Of Adjustment (BJ's standout performance), Mr. and Mrs. Who (classic Winchester), April Fools (Potter gets the last laugh), and Life Line (which speaks for itself).

I have seasons 1 thru 7 (bought them the moment they came out on DVD). I can't wait for season 8 (as well as 9 thru 11).

As some other reviewers have written - I just wish there was some special features included. Maybe (although I haven't seen any indication that it will happen) they will decide to include a special features disc (or even a couple of discs) in the season 11 set!

I would love to see interviews with the cast, deleted scenes, and an entire disc of blooper reels! There have been some retrospective specials since the show ended, and it would be nice to have those included as well.

Another feature that I keep saying would be great - but we never see - would be for them to include moments from the various Emmy Awards shows in which MASH received an award (such as Alan Alda's famous cartwheel and speech when he won the Emmy for writing "Inga").
