A Story I'll Never Forget

I've seen such a story like this one, "Neon Genesis Evangelion". This is the best animated series I have ever seen. I just bought the Perfect Collection Set last week. It is worth to buy! I also recommand Vision of Escaflowne, it's also a good series.

Best of 2005

McConaughey brings a great summer flick with "Shara". It's the fun- swash-buckling gold seekers, humanitarians feverishly working to save the world, despotic bad guys trying to knock off everyone- film of the year.

Set in the Shara desert the heroes go after Confederate gold, while attempting to save the world from a life-threatening plague. The 3rd world dictator interferes creating a great battle finale. In the end, the hero saves the day and gets the car and girl.

The stunts are great. The flick features a Cairo class Civil War Iron Clad ship (the CSA "Texas", aptly named), a ton of gold, a Miami Vice style speed boat chase (complete with rock music), and a high altitude fist fight between McConaughey and a sinister terrorist-looking bad guy. You know who wins this one!

This movie proves that movie-goers still want high octane action! One hopes there's sequel in the mix.

Buy this one... it promises be an action adventure classic.

"Yippee cay-yay!"

I don't like typical action movies, but I love Die Hard!
Off-duty cop (Bruce Willis) saves hostages and dispatches the sadistic bad guys against overwhelming odds - a simple plot, done many times since this 1988 thriller, but never done as effectively. The difference: This movie was well-written, well-acted, and well-directed. The script balances heart-pounding action with funny one-liners that always make me laugh out loud. Bruce Willis is wonderful as the Rambo-esque superguy who outwits, outplays, and outlasts the heavily-armed killers, and reveals just enough of his tender side to endear his character to the audience.
Willis is backed up by outstanding supporting players who add depth and surprises: Reginald Veljohnson is the sympathetic cop Willis talks to via radio during his ordeal. Veljohnson is superb as the buddy who grounds the movie. Paul Gleason, whose forte is playing self-important fools, injects much humor into his role as Deputy Police Chief. Alan Rickman plays the witty, urbane gang leader with devilish flair. He is assisted by the talented Alexander Godunov as a ruthless killer. De'voreaux White shines in a small but important role as a helpful limo driver. There is even a funny bit with two FBI agents, both named Johnson (no relation).
The production values are top quality, the action never stops, and each stunt is unique and utterly stupendous. I heartily recommend Die Hard to those who love action films and those who just love excellence in film.

Recently Discovered Genius

I vaguely remember a commercial for Freaks and Geeks when it originally aired, but didn't come to know the authentic early-80s wonder until just recently. I rented it and watched it all in only a few sittings, actually getting a little sad when I had to watch the last episode that would forever leave me hanging on the lives of the characters. While the "freaks" were very entertaining, the real genius lies in the geek storylines. The three characters, Martin Starr as Bill in particular, are truly some of the all-time best television geeks. Bumbling and so familiar, their lines are some of the funniest I have seen - and will forever remind me of my own geeky time playing D&D.

In a recent discussion with friends on which tv show you would pick if you only had one to watch forever, this was my pick. Why this didn't live on for many seasons, I can't tell you. But in a way, I'm glad they had just one kick-butt season and never saw a decline in quality. I hope to see the ators in more movies and television (catch Samm Levine - aka Neal - in Not Another Teen Movie).

Gate Keepers - Infiltration (Vol. 3) - movie DVD cover picture
The plot thickens . . .

1.) Episode 7 - Shoot Down the Enemy Out of the Sky - Kaoru and Ruriko volunteer to go on a mission to an airport, thinking they'll be stewardesses, when in fact they'd be polishing shoes. Shun, meanwhile, has to meet up with another gate keeper of another A.E.G.I.S. branch, but Ochiai gives him an empty file by accident so he hasn't a clue on how to find the gate keeper. He mistakes a monkey for the gate keeper he has to meet, but the girl who was searching for the animal (calling him by a name similar to Shun's, "Ukkeiya") turns out to be the actual gate keeper. A kid Ruriko and Kaoru meet while polishing shoes gives them a hot tip about a plane that turns out to be invaders, and though they try to stop it from taking off, they can't. Luckily, Shun and his contact, Fen Feiring, arrive on time to defeat the invaders.
2.) Episode 8 - Find the Invader - Megumi Kurogane is one of the most intelligent students in class. Her only rival is Ruriko, who she's determined to be better than. The only subject where Kurogane can get some slack is in Japanese History, which is taught by a "jerk" of a teacher who turns out to be struggling with his invader side until at last he gives in and becomes a red invader. Megumi is frightened by his transformation, but she's still very angry that it's Ruriko, yet again, there to save the day. When the red invader gets a chance to kill Ruriko, Megumi watches through a door crack, thinking that it's good that her competition will be eliminated, but still...
3.) Episode 9 - Break the Pitch Dark Gate - A new guy's in town, and he's one heck of a pathetic fighter. Kageyama, the new guy, is perfect in practically everything else, though, like academics, sports and girls. While Shun struggles with an internal conflict about invaders also being partly human, Kageyama has a "heart-to-heart" talk with him that stirs Shun up. When the real time for battle comes, Shun still hesitates in attacking them, and only manages to defeat the invaders with the help of his fellow gatekeepers. One enemy is still left, however, and he happens to be a gatekeeper like them... a black gatekeeper...
With the third volume of the series, you get the team fleshed out even more with a few new members, so there's plenty of similarities to the previous episodes. But, amazingly enough, the plot begins to move forward.

Wow!!! now this by far is one heck of a Thriller!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is not the worst movie Ive ever seen. I think it could have done with some more vague links to different parts of the movie so that it makes a stronger more interesting storie line instead of doing random wiered events. Its the sort of movie that If im realy bored I will sit down and watch it or If im having lunch or dinner I would put on. Its the sort of movie that gets you thinking, but doesn't take to much thought to see whats going on.

An art film of deep emotional complexity

I have to admit, I didn't realize this film was actually close to (or slightly more than) three hours long until I read some of the other reviews of it! I was so completely taken in by the strange depth and profound troubles of the characters that unfolded more and more through the film, along with the slowly revealed motivations for their actions and their unexpected connections to each other simultaneously, that time flew by without my awareness. And Mr. Tom Cruise's Academy award nomination was no accident or publicity stunt; few times was I more impressed with an actor's work. The depth of this movie doesn't border on the spiritual; you will see Exodus 8:2 as a leit motif dance through this picture- it IS spiritual, in ways that will both blow your mind, and break your heart.
I would give it four and half stars if it were possible because of a scene that devolves into a music video that didn't work for me at all. But the movie as a whole is still closer to five star excellence than four. And as far as the screen play is concerned, the recurring line about the past in this movie is one that should become a part of cinematic history.
Worth seeing more than once.
