The Caine Mutiny - movie DVD cover picture

Blessed be.Tortured and beat by decades of "arduous combat", an aging LT. Commander is given the opportunity to retire as a senior officer should he successfully command a target-towing rust bucket during the final months of conflict in the Pacific; probably around March of 1945.Most of his trusted officers are Reserves, or ROTC types and thus unfamiliar with the ways of command. Except one.Because his predecessor cared little of the War, less of the Navy, and nothing of his crew and compliment, aging Lt. Commander Francis Queeg found his importance lie in salvalgeing these military men from the jade they had come to embrace. Except one.Attentive to the wishes of Command, and adherent to orders that lacked clarity, the Officers and men of the Caine put her out to sea to move targets around. A Tow-line incident was seized upon by crew members to discredit Captain Queeg. All rank and structure organizations have embedded within them a check and balance in where leadership is subject to harsh scrutiny; like it should be. Captain Queeg was no different than any other leader and was thus frankly ridiculed for perceived errors. He knew this from prior Command experience, and remained undetered. Despite confusion, the crew remained loyal. Except one."Ah! The strawberries. That's where I had them". In a mis-guided attempt to re-assert his authority, and re-enlist his men into a military deal, Captain Queeg chastised them as a quart of frozen strawberries went missing from the ward room freezer compartment. After the ship was searched from stern to aft, after the men were searched by Corpsman, the strawberries - or maybe a "duplicate key" - remained mysteriously unfound. Except one.Now confused by visions of strawberries and duplicate keys, the crews confidence in Captain Queeg began to whither. The men wrote funny poems about him; and little songs. They made things up about him. None-the-less, the Captain continued his mission, and his staff remained loyal; though tacidly so. Except one.A typhoon tested the Captains seafaring skill. His seemingly obtuse response broke the proverbial camel's back, and the Executive Officer - being number 2 - assumed command, and ordered security personnel to confine Captain Queeg to his wardroom. Except one.Back ashore, Captain Queeg files Mutiny.A courts-martial eventually ensues, and we learn the orders given to the officers and men of the Caine; orders delivered without pace; orders that symbolized panic, were actually orders that had been given to him. All the witnesses tell thier story to the panel of judges just the way they saw it. Except one. After the verdict, came a party. The successful defense attorney, drunk, angry, and new bearer of that "arduous" tatered soul that was Francis Queeg, tells the celebrants of what he found. He defended the accused only because he saw the wrong man was on trial. Everyone's glance was unknowing. Except one.

Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - movie DVD cover picture

Dr. Strangelove" is a sad commentary created in the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Kennedy Asassination. Peter Sellers finest work, along with George C. Scotts classic performance gives just the right touch of the un-real to this all too real possibility. The black ending is taken far beyond the typical sentimental vision of the apocalypse to remind the audience,in spite of the brilliant storyline and humor, the world was,in fact,on the verge of extinction. This is a movie that has stood the test of time with flying colors, must see.

AFHV Fans Won't Be Disappointed

If you enjoy AFHV you will be satisfied with this set. The episodes are complete including the prize winners at the end. The shows are presented in a simple no nonsense format on the DVDs. Since viewers home tapes are featured in the shows the quality varies but is quite decent considering.

The end

I relly liked this episode. In it the Doctor and Perry contract a deadly virus and the Doctor only has enough andiote for one. He gives the andiote to Perry and isn't sure if he will regenerate. He does but his mind was affected.

One of the Best Sit-Coms Ever Made

Arrested Development is a brilliant show far ahead of its time. Its ratings alone should have killed it long ago but it genius -- recognized even by newtork types -- has allowed it to persevere. This is a perfectly cast ensemble show about a very dysfunctional family. Its the kind of show where so much happens that episodes don't weaken with repeated viewing. In fact, there's so much detail in them that repeated viewing enhance the experience. That may be part of the problem with the show's ratings: many people may not be able to keep up with it when they see it on a weekly basis. Here's where the DVD's come into play: the show works far better watching 2 or 3 episodes in a row.

Its the kind of show where weeks later I find a joke from it flowing through my mind.

A great modern interpretation...

This movie is definately worth the five stars, even with certain flaws. I agree with the idea that the fight scene could use a little work, as it didn't capture the emotion of the fight as the book did. It was too... quiet? Something to that effect. The rest of the movie is wonderful, as it is sad. But the humanitarian aspect at the end is very well thought-out, and really captures the essence of the meaning of Lennie's death.
Truly an inspiration, and a good example of Sinese's directing and acting talent. Of course Malkovich has done quite well in this film. Really an all-star cast, and all-star character portrayals.

You did it again! You put tab A into schlot B, didn't you?!

One of the silliest, funniest movies I've ever seen. I've saw Spaced Invaders first during it's theatrical release. When the VHS came out I grabbed it up thinking it couldn't have been as fun as I remembered, but it was. Now it's on DVD and I've bought it again. If you saw it in the theater or on VHS then the DVD is going to make you scratch your head instead of laugh in a couple of spots where the language has been sanitized (why, I have no idea. 8 year olds use stronger language.) If you've never seen it the DVD will open up a world we rarely get to see anymore- well done comedy. It is one of the best written comedy movies I've seen since, well to be honest I can't think of one. This has something for everyone kids and adults. The pace is even and sustained throughout. I've seen a lot of comedy movies and if I had to pick only one to own this would be it.Enjoy

Tombstone - movie DVD cover picture

Tombstone is based on the events prior to and following the famed "gunfight at the O.K. Corral". The main characters are Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp, Sam Elliott as Virgil Earp (isn't he in every Western ever made?), Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, and Powers Boothe as Curly Bill. The film takes some creative liberties as far as the facts go, although the fact that the Clanton's and McLaury's were given heroes funerals after their deaths was somewhat apparent. I've heard some complaints that the movie took too long for the action to start, but what some consider boring parts I see as laying the foundations for the eventual climax. When the film is based on true events, you have to stick relatively close to the facts, otherwise you might as well just slap a new name on it and market it as an independent movie. As far as performances go, everyone fit their part. Val Kilmer's interpretation of Doc Holliday was the best I've seen and the other actors fared well, if not just as well in their roles. The premise of the film revolves around the conflict between the Earp brothers along with Doc, and the "cowboys". After a few encounters, both parties lose at least one member. When one person close to Wyatt is claimed, he and a small group of men (including Doc) retaliate with ferocity. I think this is the part of the film that kind of plays around with the facts, but it is also one of the more entertaining segments. There is a love story mixed in which is pretty much concurrent with the facts as far as I've learned. (I read the book written by Wyatt's widow) A few other A-list actors appear in this film, including Charlton Heston, Billy Bob Thornton (kinda chubby), and Jason Priestly. So if you are looking for an entertaining night at home, I would recommend this movie. If you are doing a school report on Wyatt Earp, I would still recommend this movie, just read a few books that tell what really happened.

Great DVD

This is great DVD to own if you want a collection of all the Dave Matthews Band videos, what makes this particular collection great are the director commentaries, while short, they give some pretty interesting insight into the ideas that were used in making the videos as well good tid-bits on the band members themselves. Ok...I also wanted to comment on cdubb24's review first off, its John Coltrane not John Cole Train and its the Temptations not the Temptaions learn how to spell before you post a review. Second Dave's fan base is huge in the 20-24 year old age range, walk in any dorm hall in any North American college/university and I guarentee to you at least half of the students own a DMB cd. Thirdly a bad review coming from a guy you gave the Red Shoe Diaries 5 stars is clearly suspect, hell when David Duchovney himself is ashamed of the know it's not going to be quality viewing. And lastly, if you want to go rip these Mike and Josh guys who you probably know in real life go do it their faces, it's pretty weak when you have to resort to ripping people you know in real life on the internet.
