6 Stars

This film's power cannot be overestimated. It comes as close as the medium possibly can to capturing the existential despair one surely feels upon realizing that he has lived his life in vain. But it does so much more.... This is the kind of film that sticks in your mind long after experiencing it. I say "experiencing" it on purpose, because after you've seen it you'll feel it. You'll need a breather. Pour a glass of wine, have a cigarette, sit back and relax...and rejoice that you've just witnessed the essence of the human condition captured on film.

first of it's kind

Sergio Leone's A fistful of Dollars, is a great film to watch. The opening titles jump at you and the music by Ennio MorriconeIs worth owning as well if you can get it.This film shows Clint Eastwood in his best role to date I think,A bounty hunter.this alone made me want to watch this movie.Though the movie Clint fights of bandits with the legendary QUICK draw, which he is best at....this movie is the first of the classic "dollars" trilogy.once you watch this you will love spaghetti westerns.thanks.

Drama, suspense & horror makes for great entertainment!

I saw the movie and I have to be honest, I was amazed by it. I mean, this movie wasn't released in theaters in North America so my expectations weren't high, but I was really happy that I saw it. Sly is great as usual, all the other actors are doing a fantastic job on this picture. The story is very good, even though there's a lot of violence at the beginning and at the very end, but it fits with the kind of movie and with the situation the caracters are in. Of course if you don't like that kind of movie don't bother seeing it but if you're a fan of Stallone or you like suspense pictures, this one's for you. It's not a classic but it's a movie that'll entertain you for 95 minutes. I really enjoyed it.

Wonderful movie

This is truly a wonderful romantic movie! The acting of the hispanic actors is superb, and the scenenic landscape of the vineyard (where most of the story takes place) is absolutely beautiful. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good romantic plot!

Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Menace (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

George Lucas had years and years to make Episode I of the Star Wars saga, and this is what we get? One thing is for sure, it's obvious he hasn't directed a movie in 22 years. In this dry-toast re-working of the Arthurian legend, the Republic is in a Newt Gingrich type deadlock as the film opens with a 'trade-war' that is instigated by the Trade Federation: The IRS in outer space. The Federation is about to attack the planet Naboo which is ruled by a child i.e. Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman). Two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) are sent by the Republic in an attempt to prevent the Federation from attacking the planet.
Needless to say, things don't go as planned and the Jedi escape to Naboo where they run into Jar Jar Binks, an amphibious and obnoxious Naboo 'local' who is almost indecipherable. Together they 'rescue' the Queen from the Federation's CGI battle droids and flee the planet. They then go to Tatooine, the soul of the Star Wars saga, and things start to get theosophical. They discover Shmi Skywalker (Pernilla August) and her young son Anakin (Jake Loyd). And what do you know, Anakin was born without a father. Qui-Gon is soon convinced this young boy is 'the chosen one' (think the Matrix, Dune, the Bible) as he finds out young Anakin is 'genetically' endowed with the Force to a very high degree. The film then gets to its high point: The Pod Race. A Turbocharged rip-off of Ben Hur.
After the Pod Race, they leave Tatooine and head on over to the capital planet of the Republic. Here the film gets tied down in political talk so dull and uninteresting, you think you're watching C-SPAN. We also find out that the Jedi council is a boring bureaucratic committee (even Yoda is boring).
Problems abound with this movie. The CGI characters and backgrounds are so overwhelming, there is almost a sence of dislocation. It makes you miss the cheap, but organic, backdrops of the old sci-fi classics. And the characters, who are they? Who is Qui-Gon? What's his past? What do Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan talk about when they aren't narrating the films over-wrought plot? Because there is no connection to any of the characters, it really doesn't matter if they get killed or not. Everyone is a wooden prop. R2-D2 and C-3PO have nothing to do. Darth Maul is only a standard issue villian.
The fact that The Phantom Menace is only a 'table setter' for the next two episodes is no excuse for the lifeless approach Lucas took with this movie. I just hope he learns from his mistakes.

OK, First off boys and girls, IM gunna assume all the hardcore Lynch fans have already seen this film, and all Lynch haters have most likely steared clear of it. (For the Lynch haters out there this is defiantly NOT the film that will turn your opnion on him around)So for the remaining movie viewers out there IM guessing your either torn between the Lynch liker and Lynch hater or you may have just heard of this film from people at the water cooler at work, let me forewarn you, if your the type of movie goer who has to be completly fullfilled, needs closer, and doesn't really like to spend time analyzing the movie/movies they have just spent 2 1/2 hours watching, [Forrest Gump] this and any Lynch film for that matter will NOT be in your forte. If on the other hand you like to break the norm of your typical Hollywood Happy ending and be Challenged then Mulholland Drive is right up your alley.
IM not gunna waste my time explaining the plot because it's already been done over 200 times on this very site. What I will say about the film though is that it's one of the most brilliant, Challenging, emotional, well thought out, well directed, and well written movies I've had the pleasure of viewing. The Brilliance behing the film is what you the viewer make of it. Every time I watch it (7 times now) I find something that wasn't there before, changing what I think the movie is really about slighly.
Now instead of rambling on anymore let's recap. If your into the normal Hollywood movies, STAY AWAY, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS FILM, you will just end up feeling empty and possibly mad once the movie has finished and you may even, (god forbid) express your hatred for the movie on possibly taking the plessure away from another viewer who may be on the cusp of deciding to give this film a chance, all because you didn't understand it.

One of the best movies I have ever seen

I loved the graphics and alien bugs. They didn't surpass the aliens in the Alien saga but they were plentiful and thats very rare in any movie. See this movie at least once, judge for your self. And buy it from this place, I have never seen such a drop in prices. You can get this movei for 2 to 6 dollars less on line than from your local store!!!!

Beautiful graphics and very informative

This set of DVDs has wonderful graphics designed to bring to life and down to earth what goes on out in space.

The DVD takes you through the birth and death of the stars and planets, then onto comets, asteroids and black holes, the relationship between all of the above, and constant dangers, which give these DVDs somewhat gloomy flavor.

Due to impending dangers - for that matter everything that is created in the physical world has beginning and the end, and so will eventually planet earth - the later DVDs in this series project us into the future attempting to provide possible and most likely solutions for life on earth by colonizing Mars.

That is an interesting possibility. Number of scientists were interviewed - yet all that they came up with was rooted in our current knowledge and understanding. That does make sense, but one may also consider the fact that science has made rapid progress even in the past 100 years, so it would only make sense that some more viable solutions that those which are presented as possibilities on these DVDs will emerge.

In the span of 100,000 years one could expect not only undreamed of advances in technology, but also raise in consciousness and understanding. Perhaps one day quantum physics will get married to astrophysics and even the axiom that the "expectations of the Observer ifluence the outcome of the observed experiment" will bring yet other interesting solutions - the fact that we are not victims and at the mercy of the material world, but are creators of it. That, though, is beyond the scope of these DVDs.

A great buy for teenagers!

As a teenager myself, I wasn't very keen on watching this movie myself as it sounded pretty boring and considering that it was made in 1983, it only made things worse.I was sort of forced to watch it as it was my class' English literature text and we HAD to watch it. But this movie really inspired my whole class on living life. Especially the part where Ponyboy is thinking 'It seemed that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one i saw from my back steps were the same.Maybe the two worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset.' What this really meant was underneath all the wealth and loads of attitude, people are still the same. They still have emotions and feel for one another. For some it was a 'sob-sob' movie, with all its emotional parts, we learnt about life, life and life. ALthough this book got my whole class saying 'Shut your trap hood!' and later cracking up, my english literature test was much easier and this meant to all of us that, everyone has their days.
