5 stars cannot begin to do KITE justice!

Kite, simply put, is stunningly realistic and superbly directed. It definately puts you in the mind of a La femme Nikita/The Professional with a twist of Matrix style movie. I bought this movie without viewing it first, i found it was worth every penney, from the heart stopping beginning to the anti-dramatic end that keeps you wimpering for more. No anime collection can be complete without Kite, but it today.

A overlooked classic

Make no mistake: there are some profoundly goofy moments in this film. Will Patton, as the evil General Bethlehem, declaims lines with an apparent conviction that the audience is deaf. And Costner grunts through the scene where he discovers the Postal Carrier's gear: he repeats "Uhh-uhhh-ahh-aaah-unhhh-unhh-unhhh" for about three minutes. And the less I say about the two actors throwing Shakespeare at each other -- one after a lithium dose, the other after a three-day coke binge -- the better.
It's also clear Costner still hasn't solved the pacing problem that's dogged him since 'Dances with Wolves': the early scenes go on way too long and individual pieces cry out for editing. But if you can accept the pace, this is a decent film with a very interesting concept of postal carriers uniting a group of mutually suspicious post-apocalyptic survivalist communities. Yeah, when I first saw the trailer for this movie in 1997, I laughed, and the critical reaction to the film was partially justified. But the action scenes are done very well, and the actors make it hold together (particularly Larenz Tate as Costner's second-in-command). And despite its sillier moments, the script never ventures completely into the unbelievable.
You could do worse: Costner's movies, at least, attempt to create a mythology for their heroes to inhabit, and he has a knack for transporting the viewer into a convincing version of another time. It's not John Ford, but it's not bad.

Wow....

Simply put, this is a fantastic DVD. I had read the reviews which said the video quality suffered, there were not enough "gimmicks" and such....forget them all. I plugged this into my 42" plasma and surround sound and was transported back to the night of the concert. The surround sound alone should be a reason to buy this. You are there in the crowd, people clapping and yelling all around you as the concert goes on...fantastic. The bass was deep, the high's crystal clear and the video great. All members of the band are extremely talented, and it shows through their interpreting their studio albums into live music. I have been a drummer for many years and have to say Caroline may not be the flashiest drummers around, but she can drive the beat and plays everything with taste, not overdone. Also, she beats a mean Bodrhan, you have to respect her abilities for that alone.

Evil Dead II - movie DVD cover picture
A mind of their own.

This movie is bloody, gory, and hilarious. Those are the best words I can find to describe this excellent send-up of B horror movies. It's amazing what various body parts can do to people when they are released with a mind of their own. Most people seem to notice the scene with Ash being attacked by his own hand, which is an incredible piece of physical comedic acting by Bruce Campbell, but I actually laughed harder at his being attacked by the head of his now-deceased girlfriend. Once again Bruce Campbell's acting is what makes this scene work. And, of course, there's the neat little piece of conversation consisting of one female character telling the man next to her, "You're holding my hand to tight," along with his reply: "But I'm not holding your hand." This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you like B horror movies and comedies, this is one of the best.

A winner from start to finish line!

A comedic masterpiece!
It's hard, if not downright impossible to single any one particular scene within this movie as "the" funniest. Without exception, the cast demonstrates perfect timing. Losers through and through, their hapless nature rings true. The transformation of the young girlfriend in braces during the bar scenes is amazing. Within a short amount of time, we witness a painfully funny demonstration of the deadly and infectious nature of gambling and how it invades the bloodstream.
A particular treat that provides a much needed break from the action halfway through the movie (and halfway through Trotter's amazing day at the races) is his visit home to find a drunk, oblivious and resigned Teri Garr. By movie's end (and oh what an ending), every hopeless gambler out there must envy Trotter not because he's a winner, but because he has such a forgiving wife!

Something Sorely Needed!

I would just like to state how much the world needs the DVD's of Beverly Hills 90210! Like others have said, there is so many other Television series that are out on DVD and, they themselves have only been on the air for a year! BH 90210 was on the air for 10 solid years, and has nothing. Is there no justice in the world? I am a solid die hard fan, I have the Barbie or (Collectors' Dolls) I have the posters, and I have every episode on VHS by recording it, but lets face it, you can only watch the VHS and have the tape be good for so long. I have already decided to name my first born son Dylan, I mean how obsessed can a person be, and I am 20 years old! Please just do me and the world a favor and bring out the seasons on dvd... please!

Absolutely stunning footage of The Coral Sea Inhabitants!

I cannot believe this video is no longer available as it has captured everything a diver sees when exploring the depths of the Coral Sea off the East Coast of Australia. The fish life is bountiful and the species of coral seem endless. This video is crisp, clean and very well done, with a musical score to match. I will charish the copy I brought home from Australia!

Braveheart - movie DVD cover picture
Continues to Amaze and Excite...

Mel Gibson took not only a page, but a whole chapter out of David Lean's book when he directed this. The cinematogrophy is nothing short of brilliant. The sweeping shots of the Scotland countryside, the beautiful fields, the mountains, the forests, etc... are breathtaking. There hasn't been anything like it since Lawrence of Arabia. A bold statement perhaps, seeing as there have been many films made between 1962 and 1995, but I feel confident in making it.
Moving on, the actual story in this movie is riveting. It follows the life of a Scottish man named William Wallace (interestingly enough, the script was written by Randal Wallace, a descendent of the real-life main character) who starts a rebellion against England to win Scotland's freedom after an English lord kills his wife.
The battle scenes in this movie are the most graphic you will have ever seen. And I'm including SPR. It says on the back of the DVD box that this was rated R for "brutal medieval warfare" and it sure as hell isn't kidding. You see people getting shot with arrows, smashed with what looks to be a twenty pound sledge hammer, hacked with swords, stabbed through with spears, and on and on. The worst part for me, though, was when it showed the English lord's throat being slit. For some reason, I just can't stand to see that. It makes me rub my neck and grimace everytime I watch it. I can stand all the other stuff just fine, though. Go figure... Anyway, this isn't one of those movies you watch with your ten year old.
The DVD is okay, but nothing real special. The documentary is one of those 25 minute things that is half promotional. You get to see a little about how Mel directed it, and how the battle scenes were shot, but it really leaves something to be desired. The commentary is pretty good, though. It's just Mel, talking about the movie. It's interesting, and that alone makes it better than a lot of commentaries. Overall, you get the feeling that there is a special edition DVD lurking in the future. A movie of this magnitude simply deserves more than a trailer, a commentary, and a little promotional "documentary". So, if you truly love this movie, get it now. The sound and picture are simply astounding, and it does have some extras, but if you can wait, I suggest you do. You don't want to have to shell out money for this and then do it again when the SE comes out. But hey, I did it.
