5 Stars for Unintended Humor

I think Rex Reed was correct when, in his initial review of this movie, he opined that its only value was that of a training film for retired French whores.
Mae West, alas, did not age well, mainly because she could not let go of the notion that she, and she alone, at any age, should be the only fem-fatale in a movie. She was unbearably mean to Raquel Welch in Myra Breckinridge, and in this film, she is finally allowed to strut her stuff once again. Only problem is that her stuff hangs about two feet lower than it did in her hayday, and she maneuvers herself around the set with the grace of a battleship.
Unlike Betty Grable and Jane Russell, who were well adjusted enough to step aside with grace and class once the spotlight was no longer focused on them, Mae West was frozen into the sex-kitten mold.
The "plot" is that she is a middle aged woman (at 80) who will soon marry Timothy Dalton, a handsome young man of 21. You can imagine the rest.
I enjoyed watching Mae West when she was in her prime, and I felt badly for her when she so completely failed to make the transition from purring sex-kitten to mature woman. At 80, with a waist as large as her hips, but still donning skin-tight outfits, the entertainment value of this movie is all, unfortunately, at Mae's expense.

Simply the Best

Bernadette Soubirous' heart portrayed sincerely by Jennifer Jones. People of any faith should find Bernadette's adherence to the truth inspiring. What makes a saint, a mystic or a prophet? Is it miraculous powers and far reaching visions? Or is it the decision to love a single aspect of God completely, unconditionally and openly?
Each of us must decide for him/herself. Enjoy this portrayal of love that continues to draws hundreds of thousands on pilgrimage to Lourdes, France.

Brings me back

I really have to compliment the people at RHINO...I'm sure the master tapes were not in the best condition at the time of restoration, the quality is as good as can be expected with some extras added to bring a new-fresh feeling to a series that was enjoyed by kids over 20 years ago. I have watched these with my 5 year old nephew reliving parts of my childhood, and he loves it as much as I do!!!! this is a must have for anyone who yearns to return to their 80's childhood

Fabulous series now on DVD

I used to watch this show with my dad and younger sister all the time. I recently was talking about this series with a friend who used to watch it with HIS family too. We both agreed that this series was one of the best, and how nice it would be to have them all on DVD to share with OUR families.

Obviously, our wish was granted. Too bad this is no longer available in stores.

From season one, Start Trek, the Next Generation was exciting and interesting. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is the captain of the Starship Enterprise, including a large crew that in later seasons includes Whoopi Goldberg, Brent Spinner, Levar Burton and others.

Watching this show is engaging and interesting because the show takes place in the furture where there are alien races of all sorts and intergalactic wars between cultures and new planets to explore. How lucky the characters are in the show to explore the universe and discover new races of people! They also have better technology, such as the Hollodeck-a deck of the ship that creates holograms in 3-d form. Its like an elaborate dress up room in ANY time and or place.

The episodes are engaging throughout, but many are unforgettable, such as "The Child" Where Dianna Troi becomes pregnant by an alien entity and the child goes from being an infant to an 8 year old in one day, and "Elementary, dear Data" where Data plays a Sherlock Holmes mystery on the Holodeck. Another interesting episode from season 3 is called "Hollow Persuits" in which one of the crew members uses the Holodeck to act out his fantasies about the crew, including having Troi seduce him, and having a swordfight against Data, and Captain Picard!

I would reccomend getting this series in ANY way you can, its worth the VERY high $$. Sure its on TNG now, but someday it won't be on TV anymore, and you'll own all the episodes on DVD, to watch over and over again.

This 48 disc set is well done and spans the many years that the crew of the Starship Enterprise worked together.

A good flick to watch while munching your cereal

"The Powerpuff Girls - The Movie" is my first exposure to The Powerpuff Girls. Lacking cable, I have never seen the show on The Cartoon Network, nor have I seen any of the other DVDs available. Of course, I knew the characters but only from the various merchandise.
With that in mind, I really enjoyed the flick. It has pretty much everything I want from a film like this; good, stylistic animation, well-paced, clever multi-level humor, cute character design, and a plethora of monkeys. A really good movie overall! I am pleasantly surprised, and will probably check out some of the Cartoon Network DVDs now. The animation and story is not up to the level of Samurai Jack, but it is great for what it is.
As to the DVD, it is a little lackluster, but not too bad. For any theatrical film, a widescreen presentation is expected, and pan-and-scan is never welcome. The character interviews are great, maybe one of the funniest extras I have seen on a cartoon DVD. All in all, a fun DVD to have.
