5 STARS x 10

For anyone who gives this movie less than 5 stars because of the "flying" attributes of the characters... tell Vader you think (a) he looks silly "flying" or (b) he has a jet propulsion pack like Fett, or (c) simply recast your 5 stars now and avoid any dire consequences. :)

Love, friendship, and inner strength.

Spirited Away is a story about Chihiro, who at first seem to be a lazy and spoiled 10-year-old girl. But when faced with life or death, she found tremendous strength within herself. Along her path to save her friend's life and her parents' redemption, she was able to befriend everyone and every spirit. She does it so easily because she has a generous heart, and nonjudgmental mind of a child.
Hayao Miyazaki takes you into a magical world full of animal spirits, gods, and demons. Miyazaki's unique culture perceptive fills the pages of Spirited Away with visual delights and humor. Spirited Away is a story of love, friendship, and inner strength. I highly recommend this fantastic movie for the whole family.

A great movie (depending on your taste)

This movie is one of my favorites. On an abstract level, it is just the kind of movie that appeals to me. It raises complex philosophical and psychological questions. The overall tone encourages one to ponder these questions and the movie encourages reflection and introspection. The depth of those conflicts can not be adequately understood on a first viewing alone: each time I watch it I am able to reach a little deeper into them.
The cinematography focuses on simplicity. Most of the movie is shot from the inside of a Land Rover while the main character drives aimlessly or talks with one of the passengers he picks up. There is no lack of imagination, though. The idea is to create a kind of stark reality, without grandeur. The effect is to bring one man's life and his character to the forefront and to keep it there: we feel a distinct connection with this man as a result of the simple method of movie-making. The acting, I think, is amazing. Ershadi imparts astounding depth into his character - there is no bombast or superficiality present: he is totally immersed in his character. The viewer develops a deep connection with this character despite his quiet and unexcitable personality. The main character is often criticized as coming across as bland, but I think that there very subtle (yet intense) emotion there.
The video and sound are excellent. The Criterion Collection can always be counted on to produce high quality DVD's and this one is no exception.
All in all, a challenging but most rewarding viewing experience. Highly recommended...

Young Frankenstein

The son of Dr. Frankenstein is trying to find his fathers work and complete it. He travels to Transalvania and meets up with his assistant, Igor. Igor's father worked with Dr. Frankenstein's father a long time ago. One night when Dr. Frankenstein couldn't sleep, he heard a violin noise behind his wall. He found out that there was secret passageway down to a room. He followed the sound of the violin and it led him to a laboratory and in the next room was the violin lying on the table. He realized he was in his fathers secret library. He wanted to finish the work his father never finished, which was to transfer a brain into a dead body and bring it back to life. Dr. Frankenstein asked Igor to get the brain of a specific person. As Igor was in the lab, he dropped the designated brain and just took an abnormal brain thinking it was a person named "Abby." Dr. Frankenstein added the brain into the head and didn't realize that it was an abnormal brain until the monster had woken up angry. The monster ran out of the house into the village. The only sound that calmed down the monster was the violin playing. Dr. Frankenstein and Igor set up a trap and played the violin to lead him back to the castle. In the meantime the towns people are getting suspicions that there is a monster inside the castle so they come over. Dr. Frankentstein and the monster were set up to transfer brains and 3/4 of the way in, the towns' people raid into the castle and stopped the transformation. The monster had half of Dr. Frankenstein's knowledge and Dr. Frankenstein had half of the monster's knowledge. They talk the towns people into leaving and they leave. Later that day, Frankenstein gets married to Mrs. Frankenstein and Dr. Frankenstein gets married to his assistant.

My favorite movie

When I saw this movie for the first time in the movie theatre I was not impressed. I thought it was a good movie, but I did not think it was the greatest movie ever. I saw the movie again this past September. That is when I fell in love with this movie. I really paid attention to the subtle lines in the script and to the enormously talented actors on the screen. After that viewing I ordered the soundtrack (which I also highly recommend). Everything about this movie is good and that is why you should watch it.

AWESOME MOVE!

All I can say is... wow this is the greatest movie i've ever seen, and no i'm no overexaggerating. I work at a local Blockbuster Video and whenever a customer asks for us to recommend a movie we always recommend The Boondock Saints. As soon as they watch it almost everyone buys a copy. My store has sold about 60 copys of this movie on DVD in the past 5 months and we are still working on it. You can buy it here at Amazon.com, or any other retailer but just buy it it's definitely worth it. I guarantee you'll love it.

Quality Production

I'll keep it short, but this is a real quality production. Looks & sounds great. The DD 5.1 is as good as you could expect anything to sound. The cinematography is also quite good, with a few breaks which show the set up & road crew. These aren't obtrusive or obnoxious, like many DVDs I've seen. The road breaks fit it with the flow of things.
This plays more like a "concert film" - not just a haphazard taping of a musician's performance. Some planning went into the film, and it shows.
I'm happy because I thought the Globe DVD was awful & uninspired, but this round she nails it. Probably would appeal to even moderate Crow fans. For the money, there isn't a better current concert DVD release.

My Favortite movie by far

Way better than Lord of the Rings. The battle sequences were suberb and stunning. I loved the fighting and plot. Tom Cruise was awesome in acting in this movie. It was also historicly accurate. So you can learn from this film. It was very educational. It deserves some academy awards. If you like movies like Gladiator you'd pamper yourself by coming to this movie

Northern Exposure - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture
Yay! Finally!

With the glut of completely forgettable TV shows and movies flooding onto DVD, it's nice to see a series of great quality, superior writing, memorable characters, and consistent imagination make it finally to DVD! "Northern Exposure" is a true classic! It'll be great to have it available legally in Region 1 NTSC (there have been bootleg Region 2 PAL versions floating around for a couple years already on eBay, but with extremely poor sound/video synchronization). The first season only has 8 episodes (since it premiered during the summer of 1990. It might have been better to combine the 1st season with the 7 episodes of season 2 (which ran in April/May 1991, for a 15 episode set, but comprehending the mind of marketing 'geniuses' is bound to lead nowehere.) The first 'regular' seasons with 22-24 episodes only began in September 1991. Let's hope this release signals that after season 1, the next 5 seasons will also soon see the light of day. Some of the extras promised for this release:
Deleted Scenes Video Documentary Footage Mock Movie Footage "Unexposed" Footage
(and special limited edition "Parka" packaging!)
