50-Ton Lizard Hits NYC! Details At 11...

Ray Harryhausen's masterpiece is a fun-filled monster fiesta! The beast arises after one of our top secret A-bomb tests wakes it from cryogenic slumber, under tons of ice at the north pole. Once this critter's atomic alarm goes off, the onslaught begins right away. Tom Nesbitt (Paul Christian) is a scientist who must watch his colleague get buried under an avalanche caused by the beast. Nesbitt sees the monster and gets knocked unconscious. He wakes up in the hospital, where everyone thinks his story is crazy, especially an army colonel (Kenneth Tobey), who searched the arctic site, finding nothing unusual. Nesbitt seeks out a leading paleontologist (Cecil Kellaway), who also thinks he's nuts, until Nesbitt brings in a man willing to coroberate his story. This is done with the help of a beautiful assistant paleontologist (Paula Raymond). Now, the real star makes his full-fledged entrance, coming ashore in NYC, crushing cars, smashing buildings, and eating people like so many dino-treats! The military moves in, unable to do more than scratch it's thick hide. Also, when the monster bleeds, it releases a deadly disease that causes coma and death! The behemoth's frenzy continues until it winds up at Coney Island, where only Lee VanCleef can save us! It's up to him to fire a radioactive isotope into one of the creatures open wounds. This is my favorite Harryhausen flick. Check it out...

bare bones dvd edition of spectacular film

Kenneth Branagh's directorial debut sets the bar for Shakespearean adaptations. Branagh as Henry heads a spectacular cast that includes Emma Thompson, Derek Jacobi, Ian Holm, Paul Scofield and Judi Dench. The sets and lighting are wonderful, and Branagh proves to have as perceptive an eye as an ear, with beautiful shots the norm and language rendered so as to be both beautiful and accessible. This adaptation is quite different from Laurence Olivier's interpretation, and they make interesting viewing together.
This dvd edition, however, is pitiful and if I didn't adore the film I'd mark it down. One gets a trailer and subtitles available in French or Spanish. That's it.

A Wonderful Romantic Comedy!

I saw this movie when it first came on tv, I taped it and everyone has borrowed it. When I found I could buy it, I jumped at the chance. It is a great film about the enduring spirit of a young woman. Ricky Lake was a joy to watch, you find yourself cheering for Grace, feeling some of her pain caused by her family, and at the end, well, I won't give it away, but you will love it. Afgkrafty

Classic Screwball

This movie is quintessential screwball comedy. Full of twisted plots, confusing romances, and a whole range of madness and insanity, this movie has few equals if you just want to sit back and enjoy a good, clean laugh.

Finally giving Batman justice...

"Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" is the best Batman movie ever, and one of the greatest movies of our time, I believe. If you think this is for children, you're dead wrong. This movie in fact is more adult than the live action ones. Besides, "Mask" is the first and only fully-animated film to date that has ever held a PG rating(outside of Prince of Egypt); and this one is good without having the good book behind you. The animation was superb(Mr. Malton...), and the plot was absolutely rich. In this film, unlike the others, you actually feel sorry for him when yu glimpse into his past. In this movie, you see Bruce face heart-wrenching desicions; and he's actually heart-wrenched by them. The dark score to the movieadds to it's already ominous setting, and makes the movie all the more spine-tingling for you to watch. Watch this movie if you're a movie lover at all.

Akira Kurusawa : Magnificent Director.

The Seven Samurai proves to new generations how magnificent director was Akira Kurosawa. I can easily tell that it wont be interested for me to watch "The Seven Samurai" if I only read the topic of it. It was a chance event how I watched it first time 15 years ago. I can't explain how this 3 hours just passed. The characters, the story, the performers and "Genious" Akira Kurosawa are all magnificent on this classic. Pls note that you don't like "The Seven Samurai" if you are looking for technological actions on movies..

Wow.

I knew nothing of this movie before sitting down to watch it. I guess I should have known what I was getting into. I saw that the theater was getting really full, so I turned to my wife and asked if this was a chick flick. The place was packed.
I'm not going to spoil the flick like the other postings, but let me tell you, this was stunningly good. I have always thought of Tom Cruise as a cheesy actor of low talent. Well, I was wrong. He did a terrific job.
The story has innumerable twists and turns. I am usually pretty good at figuring the story out rather quickly, but this one had me stymied. I was thrilled to the end. I really couldn't believe how good this was.
The special effects were great. If you want a good time, go see this movie.
