50 Million Frenchmen can't be wrong

My first exposure to this two-part masterpiece was on the "big" screen. I was mezmerized throughout, and frequently reduced to tears. As an adult who last wept in a movie when Dumbo's mother was chained up in the Disney classic of 1941, I was unsure that it was this film that brought about such deep emotions. After having purchased the VHS of both films and weeping during each subsequent viewing, I can truthfully state that few have experienced a movie more demanding of personal involvement. Yves Montand, Gerard Depardieu and especially Daniel Autiel are all brilliant. No movie comes to mind surpasses the beauty of the French countryside nor the depth of emotional involvement of JEAN DE FLORETTE/MANON OF THE SPRING! I have been awaiting this DVD release in widescreen for the past several years, to re-enjoy the films as they were shot. Buy these two, they are keepers.

Unforgettable

I still remember the first time I saw this movie on HBO. I was a little kid. I will never forget this movie, especially the ending. Anyone interested in the First World War should watch this film. Without giving too much away, this movie is in three parts. Young Archie and Mel Gibson in Australia, the funtime that was the army in peacetime, and the third and final act: the horror of trench warfare. Forget reading All Quiet, this should be the standard for WWI. As a teacher I have shown this film every year I have taught. This is a must see.

aaaaahhhhhhh

one of my all time faves, the dialogue is awful, the acting is terrible, and if it wasnt for the premise and some of the more memorable scenes *ahem*bathtub*ahem* i would have never have even thought of this film again in my life. but its because of the nasty bad acting, the horrid dialogue, and the premise that i LOVE this movie, its movies like this that you can show some of your more prudish friends, everyone has at least one, and make them go ewwwwwwwww. mu hu ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Training Day-The most real movie of 2001

Training Day was my favorite movie of last year. It won't get the respect it should when the oscars come around but it still stand's out to me. All of the performances are top notch even the breif one's from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. When walking out of the theater I was scared from Denzels acting job. The movie was that convincing to me. For a breif summary of the story,Hawke is a rookie cop trying to make detective when first having to be on the narcotics team, he meats up with denzel and soon relizes that the man is twisted on power and the corruption builds. Not only was the performance of Denzels the best of his career but Ethan Hawke shows that he should get an oscar for the great performance of the scared rookie cop. This movie proves that even if special effects are cool that the acting is the soul of the movie. My personal awards thoughts should be nominated for best picture, best actor(Denzel), and best supporting actor (Hawke). The Best of 2001

Forget Friends - Coupling does it better!

You don't have to be an Angliphile to enjoy this series but it will help. If there is one drawback for US viewers it will be the use of British slang. The actors are charming and the situations they get themselves into are hilarious without feeling contrived as so many US comedies seem to be these days. The Brits are much more straight foreward when is comes to sex and sexual situations and their treatment of this subject matter may put some people off. For the rest of you, if you want a fresh new approach to the interactions of modern men and women you won't find anything better than Coupling. [...]

This movie is wonderful!

I have never heard of the comic on which this movie is based (and when I saw this movie, I didn't even know it was based on a comic) and I usually really dislike westerns. But this was no ordinary western - it was a brilliant metaphysical work!

For those who like westerns or the comic on which it is based, as other reviewers already said, you will probably not dig this. But, if you like spiritual/visionary/visually trippy type films (think What Dreams May Come, Pi, The Wall, even Field of Dreams), then you will probably enjoy this.

a action-packed dang movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!( By: Joey)

If he wasnt a samurai, like one of the previous earlier posts suggests, why was he permitted to adorn the two swords? this is not allowed in society if he was not a retainer.
