28 Days Too Late...

Imagine waking up in the hospital, naked and groggy. Then, wandering through the halls, wondering where all the doctors and nurses have gone. Upon exiting the building, you see that the entire city appears vacant and in a shambles. What happened? Where did all the people go? This is how it is for the hero of Danny Boyle's jarring 28 DAYS LATER. London England has been swept clean of her inhabitants, at least those of the normal variety. What is left are roaming bands of bloodthirsty maniacs, driven insane by a virus that quickly decimated the population. The story is good, owing much to both Night and Dawn Of The Dead, The Crazies, The Omega Man, Last Man On Earth, and even The Day Of The Triffids. We follow the uninfected survivors as they attempt to make it to an oasis of sanity they've heard about on the radio. A place that promises sanctuary and salvation for our battle-weary adventurers. Will they make it? What, if anything will they find there? We get to join them in their quest, hoping that they make it before some infected nut gets a hold of them. 28DL, like Boyle's Trainspotting, offers us a ride that may not take us where we want to go. Where Trainspotting showed us the utter deadness of addiction, 28DL shows us survival in it's most raw form. Just watch what these people have to do to stay alive. Watch who they must kill. I highly recommend this movie. Belongs in every horror collection...

Sweet and brilliant

A sweet love story and brilliant martial arts ballet scenes. Just shows what Jackie Chan can do on his own, far from Hollywood's baneful influence. I love Qi Shu's performance. Well worth seeing more than once.

When You Need Cheering Up, Play this Movie

I first saw this movie twenty years ago. I could not stop laughing then and I cannot stop laughing now.Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray had perfected a deadpan comedic style by then that meshed beautifully with this script. Even in comedy, it is a stretch to assume that grown men would fight green monsters--and build a business from it- in the Manhattan of the 1980's. Sigourney Weaver plays off the male leads seamlessly as their client whose apartment is ground zero for the monsters. When you see her in this role, and think of her later one in Working Girl, you wish she had done more comedy throughout her career. Rick Moranis is hysterical as her neighbor, an accountant looking for a good time. I wish I had seen him in more roles over the past few years.Time has been kind to this movie. Yes some things are dated but that makes the film more enjoyable in many ways. The DVD offers a fun voice over track from the director and others. You learn a number of interesting things-Moranis was not the original choice for the role, for instance-and hear about how various shots were filmed in the Manhattan locations. You get the idea from the participants in the voice over track that these were their "good old days." Even if you own the VHS, the DVD is worth the purchase for the voice over track and deleted scenes. I would recommend this movie for those who enjoy comedy, particularly of the broad and physical genre. Yes there are many, many great, crackling lines throughout the movie. However, if witty repartee is your thing, well this movie may not be for you. For the rest of you, sit back and enjoy.

Hilarious

I first discovered this show while watching a local air channel, and, thinking it funny, watched again the next saturday night. I have been a loyal watcher ever since and have just bought the DVD. It is a hilarious British space spoof with somewhat dated special effects, but it is hardly a downside to this wonderful, ingenious comedy.

really good

I finally saw this movie on video and must say I was greatly disappointed. This movie was hyped as the greatest scare flick in years, but it did not live up to its hype.
The way this movie was shot is not new (see "84 Charlie MoPic," "Cannibal Holocaust," and the UPN docudrama about a Minnesota family captured by aliens from about two years ago). Like the UPN program, it struck me as odd that these three people, who are lost in the woods and in what appears to be grave danger, had the presence of mind to film and videotape everything. Even combat photographers will stop filming if they are in mortal danger. When they went into the house at the end, a camera would have been the last thing I would have brought.
The movie spent too much time showing the three "students" walking around in the woods and screaming the f-word more times than a gangsta rap CD. I was tempted to fast-forward through most of it.
The ending (or lack of one) left a lot to be desired. I have one theory. It was Josh. The Blair Witch possessed Josh, made him call Mike and Heather into the house, and he did them in. What he did with them and what happened to him is another matter.
In all, it was a good premise, but could have been better written and produced. Worth seeing once, just to see what the hype was all about.
