Auto Focus - movie DVD cover picture
TV Sitcom Star Walks the Wild Side of Life

Based on the book "The Murder of Robert Crane" by Robert Graysmith, "Auto Forcus" describes the life of Bob Crane, popular DJ and actor, best remembered as the star of TV POW sitcom in the 60s. According to the film, he lived a life everybodu would envy -- beautiful wife and loving family, and popularity -- until he starts another kind of life, hidden from them.
Greg Kinnear provides his career best performance in this film. He plays the role of Bob Crane, who, after meeting a rep from Sony named John Carpenter (equally great Willem Dafoe), gradually decends into the darker side of life, namely the addiction to sex. Serious or not, they gleefuly say: "A day without sex is a day wasted."
It is nothing surprising for us to see his wife (Rita Wilson) suspect that her husband hides something, In fact he hides many embarrasing things you can never show your kids. And it is nothing surprising for us to see Hollywood stars lose their popularity because of their own wrong choices in life and career. Sure, these things happen to Bob, and inevitable ending, too.
As far as the material goes, "Auto Focus" gives nothing new or unique. We have seen similar, and probably more shocking stories about celebrities, and there are tons of books written about these seedy aspects of Tinseltown. And the camera of this movie does not explain much about the reason for his addition (if ever he was really addicted as the film suggests). But who can really explain the habits of human being?
The strength of the film lies in its mood and performance. As I said before, Greg Kinnear, perfectly cast, gives rivetting acting, which deserves some awards. His precarious relations with his family and his friend Carpenter are convincingly portrayed.
Check out the impeccable production design of the film, which recreates the fashions of the 60s and 70s. The decor, clothes, even the slightly faded color of contemporary TV show is perfectly presented with reality.
And most of all, it is good to see the dirctor Paul Schrader, after his unimpressive "Forever Mine," is back in good form, who is always deft at showing the males walking the wild side of life. Now he did it again, and whether you like it or not, you have to admit his talent in exploring the dark and concealed territory of life. But of course, you may dislike it, or disbelieve it.

#1 Romantic Movie of All Time !!

I saw "Somewhere In Time" in the theater in 1979 with my "first love"--It has been a very special movie to me ever since! The music (Rachmaninoff), the scenery (Mackinac Island) & combination of Reeves and Seymour is a timeless romantic masterpiece. Don't be logical when watching this one--Trying to figure out the "why's" & "how's" will spoil the mood!! Just enjoy!!

The Great One

Wow! One of the best Pokemon movies ever compared to the 1st one. Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno are so cool and Lugia too. But I also wanted to see mew or mewtwo in the crowd though. Anways it was a great movie and nice soundtrack to, cant wait till the next one. But the Pikachu adventure thing was boring.

Scariest movie I've seen

i bought this dvd as an import, before it's released in the US. This movie creeped me out from start to finish. No gore, just the best told ghost story I've seen in years.
It's made by the same director that did the ring, but with a much more linear plot, much easier to follow. The little girl who plays the daughter will steal your heart away. If you like to be scared by film, BUY THIS MOVIE.

A Simple Movie With a Powerful Message

In Country is one of my all-time favorite movies. The plot to the movie is simple enough--a teenage girl who's just graduated from high school is wanting to find out more about the Vietnam War and about her father who died in the war before she was born. The movie quickly becomes so much more. You find yourself truly caring about these characters and what they went through in Vietnam. Bruce Willis does an exceptional job playing the young girl's "mentally alienated" uncle. The movie is really about the importance of family and the bonds that last beyond the grave. The ending is so powerful that it leaves me in tears every time.

Intelligent,Smart,But the DVD is kind of confusing.

This is a great film period OK. Christopher Nolan managed to direct and write a vert smart film. The movie is about Leonard Shelby(Guy Pearce,The Count of Monte Cristo) who is looking for the man who raped and murdered his wife and caused him to have short term memory loss.
Joe Pantoliano(The Matrix,Daredevil) plays Teddy, the man who may or may not be helping him.And then we have Natalie(Carrie-Anne Moss,The Matrix Revolutions) another person who may or may not be helping him. Now on the disc there is a cheat code like thing that will play the movie in chronological order, you can find this at captaincode.com. After watching the horribly edited chronological version I realized that this movie works better going backwards. Moving from the end to the beggining and so forth. This is truly one of the great films that is already a classic really and probably will become a must for aspiring film makers. The character development moves slowly which makes it work even better and the characters are extremely likeable. Any fan of movies should see this, this is truly a great film. Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, and Guy Pearce all give spectacular performances.A-.

The Quick & Dirty Guide to Salsa - Part 1, Beginners - movie DVD cover picture
If you think of salsa as...............

If you think of salsa as ballroom set to Latin music, this DVD is not for you. If you have taken ballroom salsa classes, you will be lost.

If, however, you dance in salsa clubs or want to dance in salsa clubs with real salseros this DVD is a great complement to your instruction. The basics and simple turn patterns are covered.

I think some of the reviews are funny. The instructor gave a move a Spanish name and she threw some of you a curve. A cross body is a cross body lead regardless of the name.

I highly recommend this DVD.
