Great Romantic Comedy

Not many films about college are that good, but this one is an exception, a well written & at times funny film, it stars John Cusack as a off the wall freshman who it seems has a secret crush on Alison(Daphne Zuniga of "Melrose Place") she is very uptight & has no interest in him, his pal in L.A.(a younger Anhthony Edwards of "E.R.")assures him of a sure thing which happens to be Nicolette Sheridan("Knots Landing")who is so fine that Cusack heads to L.A. for the Christmas holidays, unbeknownst to him, Alison also has taken the same ride as him with a then-unknown Tim Robbins, who dumps them on the side of the road after Cusack embarasses him & causes him to get a ticket, what follows is him & Alison hitching the rest of the way, & in the process getting to know one another better, one scene involves Alison getting in a truck where Cusack warns her not to accept, when she does the old guy behind the wheels pulls over & attempts to rape her only to discover that Cusack jumped into the back & suddenly comes to the rescue by pretending to be a pyscho, which is quite funny, watching the terrified look on the man's face is funny as he believes Cusack to be a pyscho, this just one of the many charms that Cusack displays & soon Alison begins to fall for him, his visions of Sheridan soon become Alison, by the time they get to L.A. it is pretty obvious that they are in love, her reaction to his sure thing is clear, when he arrives to meet her, the look on his face is clear, it is a realistic look at how love can happen & how love most often usually happens & is a winner in every sense.

Fabulous film!

This is probably my favorite movie, or at least in my top 5 favorites. It's such a great heartwarming and fun film. The scenery is quite beautiful, the acting is fantastic, and Johnny Depp is just hot. It's quite a feel-good movie that will have you smiling at the end. Some say it's predictable, but I can name about 50,000 other movies that are WAY more predictable than this one(say, all Julia Roberts films). Great great film, Juliet Binoche is excellent as is Depp and Judi Dench.

An underrated gem

For some weird reason, this movie opened in theatres down here in Mexico some months ago , skipping tha opening in the USA for reasons that only the distributors know. Maybe they think that it is too mediocre or even bad to risk money promoting it. Well, the movie is not bad at all. It is actually pretty good; it doesn't try to reinvent the genre or to be the most original flick of the decade, but there are still great things about it. The biggest quality of it is that it stars Mr. Sylvester Stallone. He is a legend, he has a strong cinematographic persona, and it is obvious that he made an effort in this one. He plays a burnt out cop, a fed who hasn't been able to catch a serial killer, a cop killer. It is understood that he is not a superhero, he is a regular cop, someone who has problems doing his job (don't we all?), he hasn't been able to do what he was supposed to do, and when the killer focuses on him and the one he loves (Michael Corleone said: when they come for you, they come for what you love), he just breaks. He splits. He's then sent to rehab, in the mountains. What a surprise that, in the rehab center, there's a killer doing his own. It doesn't sound very original, I know, but check Sly out: he lost a lot of weight to play the part, his eyes tell you how really hurt he is, how much he has suffered, how desperate he is. Please, give him a chance. I do believe that it is us the fans who must support the guys who have given us so much fun all these years. Buy the DVD, recommend it, you will NOT regret it.

The Boogiepop Doesn't Smile

This series is amazing. Although it starts off a bit confusing with these first three episodes, it doesn't drag a bit. The storyline is so in depth that you will probably be revisisting past episodes just to catch what you might have missed. While some people have compared it to Serial Experiments Lain, they really can't be compared to each other...both are good in their own right, but at least this series answers more questions than Lain. By the end of Lain more questions are brought up than there were to begin with, but with Boogiepop a fair amount of questions are actually answered; you just have to pay attention. I would recommend watching this in English first and then Japanese simply because you have to pay attention to so much that is going on that reading subtitles and trying to make sense of the sometimes cryptic quotes becomes overwhelming in addition to watching the animation. The animation in itself is very good. All the scenes are relatively dark even if it takes place in daylight. A lot of the scenes are a bit disturbing (think a boy making a cat explode), but that isn't just for the benefit of blood and gore. Everything that happens in this anime happens for a reason. The story is told in an out of order way. This is for the effect of not revealing too much about the story until the 'right' time. The series is basically about a group of kids who have been affected by a beam of light that mysteriously appears in the first episode. These kids become gifted with powers and are then taken by Boogiepop, a 'grim-reaper' of sorts. Boogiepop is basically a dark superhero trying to protect the town from the Manticore; a man-eating monster than has taken a human form. To truly understand this series, Boogiepop & Others (the live action Japanese film) should be viewed in addition to the series. If you can get your hands on a copy, it would be well worth it, as the film goes more into what the light is, whereas the series only touches on that briefly in one of the later episodes. Overall, this gothic/horror series is very enjoyable if you can handle a little blood and a confusing story.
Prepare for mystery, horror, and an awesome story!5 stars isn't enough for this incredible anime...
Not recommended for kids under 15, but everyone else should be able to handle it.

The bitter gaze once more !

Once more the merciless eye of Raibner Werner Fassbinder focuses in a German American Vietnam veteran hired for Munich police to murder local criminals .
Imagine a lonely man in a room with thousand mirros. The images are placed next to each other reflecting the ambiguities , the blame and revealing the horror and the hell of the war do not finnish in the battlefield.
A potent film and visceral drama. Do not miss this film of the early times of Fassbinder who literally gave a twist of fate to the Film Noir genre with this original work.

Perfect film. Perfect.

I must say this was the movie that (I at least) will remember always. It was a wonderful tell of a teenage girl finding who she is and what she loves. The hardship of everyday life. I know this sounds like most of the movies these days but it's not. It is down to earth, no nonsense in it. I felt like I was watching a persons real life. The discovery of love in the different places, the idealism of youth that I had lost so long ago. I must see for anyone who seeks meaning in anything. Even a rock!
